I needed to create a flyer for a pancake breakfast we're putting on at work. When I couldn't find the clipart I wanted I decided to try to create it in TS7. This is the result.

Excellent, love the syrup effect. My one criticism is that the flow of syrup looks like a melting starfish...:)

Otherwise I really like it. How did you do the pancakes? Texture map?

Nice job on this! Lighting and shading are well done!

Only comment would be that due to the way the pancaces are tilted, most of the syrup would likely be on the left side.

EDIT: Also, you may have some fun throwing in a white reflector card above the syrup to better show the shinyness.

I'm hungry now, the only problem that hasn't been mentioned is that the syrup looks too high, it's either cold or really sticky:p

Thanks for the suggestions! :)

I saved the control mesh, so I can try tweaking the syrup around. I just looked a the top view and most of the syrup is on the left, I think the melted starfish effect is due in part to the viewed angle, but I can try moving it around and make it a bit flatter.

I never even thought of a reflecting card. I'm gonna have to try that.

The pancakes were made from a cylinder. I extruded the sides so I could pull them down for a little droop then subdivided. I used a hand-painted texture map on them. Being able to adjust the UVMap real time in TS was really handy.

Thanks again.

Looks tasty! :D

Would like to try "american pancakes" one day :)

(in Sweden they are thin and served with jam and whipped cream)

Out of curiosity... what is the yellow stuff on top? I've seen it on pancakes in US tv-series but can't understand what it is.

Even though I am not American-I am guessing that is a lump of butter.

Butter? Can that really be good..or is it some special butter..less salty, more creamy perhaps?

Are you guys on the other side of the pond really telling me that you don't put butter on your pancakes over there? Oh man, you guys are missing the whole point of pancakes. A big heap of butter melting over a good fluffy stack of pancakes...mmmmm. Arteries?...who needs 'em. :)

Nice work Heidi! Much better then clip art. Makes me hungry. :)

When we have pancakes we either don't put butter on them at all, we just have syrup; or we put the butter on first.

I don't taste any salt in the butter, we also use margarine which is a sort of imitation butter that is easier to spread

Looks good Heidi, good enough to eat!

One suggestion I would make is maybe add a bump/normal map, even just
on the sides of the pancakes, for the popped bubbles. You'd have to keep the
amplitude low though, or it will start to look like swiss cheese.:)

Other than that, it looks great!

Hm, gonna se if I can find a recipe of pancakes from the left side of the pond ;)

( This image really wetted my appetite, we're lucky Heidi didn't find any clipart ! :) )

@trueBlue:

Come on...you don't really have fried eggs on it? Altough...in my family we're actually having our pancakes with strawberry jam and fried pork...combination of sweet and salt can be quite nice ;)

We have 'em rolled up with icecream in the middle Yah-UMMM!!

My favourite way is a big flat pancake with a liberal sprinkling of lemon juice and suger (dribble drool slather...)

Very appetising image by the way!!

Mmmm, pancakes and icecream...that makes my mouth water ! :D

If I gain weight this weekend, I'm gonna blame this thread ;)

BTW, Does this look like a good recipe?

2 cups flour

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 cup buttermilk

3/4 cup milk

2 large eggs, separated

1/4 cup melted butter

vegetable oil

Hm, not familiar with buttermilk though...wonder if we have something similar?

Thanks for the suggestion SteveBe (I right-clicked the image you posted, if that's ok with you). :)

Shike, if you don't have buttermilk, use regular milk and leave out the baking soda. Don't bother to separate the eggs.

Mix all the wet ingredients together. Mix all the dry ingredients together. Put the dry ingredients in a bowl then pour the wet in. Mix it together just until it's wet through but still really lumpy (there will still be dry lumps through out kind of thing). The smoother you make the mix, the flatter your pancakes are gonna be. Preheat your griddle until sprinkled water will sort of dance around on it, but don't over heat it. Flip you pancakes when the bubble rise to the surface, don't wait for them to all pop. ;)

Pancakes with butter, pecans and maple syrup, with some bacon on the side (yum)

I haven't tried pancakes and icecream (sounds wonderful). We do the lemon juice and powdered sugar on crepes, though. :)

That's a more sensible way to eat em.

Go & get a curry flavour Pot Noodle, much less effort. :D If you prefer something a bit hotter, you could always try the "Bombay Bad Boy" flavour, which I'm assuming would be hotter [don't really like stuff that's beyond "mild", so haven't tried it].
