Just made this today

1988

Kind of pleased with how it turned out.

It looks like some closeup photos of pollen I've seen, though I've never seen an iceball so I wouldn't know if it was accurate :p

Hey, that's pretty cool! Is that a procedural texture, a complex mesh, or what?

Good work whatever it is! :jumpy:

Thank you

Yes .. It does resemble pollen !

No meshes, it is a (simple) pyrocluster (plugin) effect.

looks awesome, would be cool to see lots of them, in the background using DOF, would look really cool

Please explain how you did it, as ive had pyrocluster for some time and never had results like this

This one uses over 120 particles (each particle is one so called puff).

No lights.

I used the pyrocluster preview window to monitor changes as I changed the settings on the effect (very handy when one explore the different Fractal Fury settings).

I designed the gradient with all noise, like fractal fury etc, turned off.

A low Density setting makes the puff more transparent, allowing for internal colors to show through. Luminosity set to 0.

Slight variations in the gradient (color/alpha) and different radius methods (the 4 "opened globes" in the panel) has big overall impact.

White in the gradient gives the effect of light: it seems like the thing has light.

In Fractal Fury I adjusted until I found an appealing look on the puff. I did not use the color gradient in fractal fury.

It does not use Age/Distance effects, no shadowing, no illumination.

Render takes not much time, set to Hazy in the Volume Tracer.

This reminds me of spider eggs, and a huge cluster of soap bubbles. Looks kinda cool.

Just wanted to put up a second image to this thread, although not 'icy' it is based on the first, and is only pyrocluster, no mesh. Not much changed, color gradient, illumination.

Here is a closeup of the effect.

Very cool indeed, I think. I've always liked mathematical type patterns, fractals, and all that, and this is kind of similar in style. Would be interested in seeing any more you happen to create!

Thanks!

Tom

Thank you Tom, Matski007, frootee :)

Here is the scene for the last post with pyrocluster settings, if anyone want to take a look. Scrub to frame 1 for all particles to appear.

Scene might not work if pyrocluster is not installed.
