Some volunteer work I'm doing for a University Museum - if they like it. :D
Anyway a rough concept splash screen, just to get things rolling.
It's about a primitive tribe called Asmat, their customs, culture and collections in the museum.
Eventually, it will be a 3D virtual tour on a DVD, with some Web content available. |

You picked a difficult subject there James. Producing a poster for a museum is not one of the easiest things in the world to do.
Not a bad start, but the "artifacts" are definitely not quite right.
The shield is close, but the doll and the knife are not as good.
The doll should have LOTS more grass in it.
I would refine the shield and replace the doll with a carving. Then fix up the knife or replace it.
Here are some pages with images that may be of help.

I know, it was just a quickie 2D drawing to get started, as I said rough concept drawing. :)
Oh, I have videos and images from the Museum itself, just haven't take the time to sort them.
Will be using a combination of 3D, 2D, 2.5D (trueSpace, Carrara6Pro, XSI, Swift3D (papervision), Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere pro, etc.) to produce it. It will take awhile. |

Don't mean to be ALL negative... I love the lettering and the background. also the "framing". It's definitely a very good start. |

It's okay, it's a favorite past time on this forum to bust me in the chops. |

Good luck with this james. I like the concept. I know this is just a rough layout as you say, but I would try a more subdued blue for that background, maybe with a subtle texture. Right now it is a little dominating over the rest of the piece. I like that doll a lot. Nice style. |

Workspace view of Asmat shields, just starting. The long things are vines that are used as tie ornamentations on the sides of the shields. |

Fooling around in Zbrush, trying to get a feel for sculpting the warrior people of the Asmat tribe. No maps, textures yet, just sculpting. They have bold features, sort of like Australian Aborigines. |

Conceptual design of the museum interior with rooms.
Decided to use a set of five circular rooms per floor. Each circle room is enclosed with an inner exhibit which is also circular in design.
The idea is to have a flow around the exhibit as close as possible, maximizing space and making crowd flow easier.
Plenty of space on circle room interior walls for charts, diagrams and flat art exhibits as well.
There is also ample space in between the circle rooms for museum necessities such as stand alone exhibits, public facilities and other utilitarian devices.
Two floors are connected by the five circular modules which by the way is one unit, so the circular modules act as support structure as well. |

2D concept design how the circular modules would be used for display and visitor viewing area. |
