Howdy Ya'll

It's been a wee while but I'm still around and still trueSpacing. I've not been posting as much of my work here recently as some of it has been entered into contests on other websites (all the while singing the praises of trueSpace!!). As soon as the contests are over I'll post here so you can see what I've been up to.

In the meantime, I've been dabbling a bit with NURBS modelling and I've built a medieval pub. This scene was a strain for my wee computer so I used the 'render sandwich' technique. The sky dome, flock of birds and distant buildings were rendered seperately by hiding the foremost layers then that image was set in the background shader and the rear layers were hidden and the front layers unhidden.

Anyway, here it is, hope you like it, the story should be pretty self explainatory from the title.....

As always, comments are welcomed and valued.

Stephen

Is a nice image. I like the barrels best.

Sun seemed little high in sky. Stonework is neat as well.

Yeah, I like the stonework & barrels too. The only crits I have are maybe a bit less shine/reflection on the guy's shoulder/arm, & I'm not sure about the curve at the end of his cape. The lower right corner looks a bit too far forward. Other than that, great image.

Nice, only crit is that the road texture doesn't look very realistic.

Nice, only crit is that the road texture doesn't look very realistic. Yep, I'd have to agree with that as my main gripe with an otherwise very entertaining image. I think the thing I like most about your work Stephen is that there is always so much to look at and the more you look the more you see.

Good one matey

Ah, I can almost see Merry and Pippin barging their way in singing 'But the only brew for the brave and truuuuuuuue~ Comes from The Green Dragon!'

Great render!

A rich and colorful composition...many unique and interesting things to look at, all of which are crafted very nicely. The vivid range of color and texture sets a warm, all-encompassing mood. I like your style. :)

Another great image W!zard! :-) Lot of detail.

My crit would be that I think the shadows should be deeper to enhance the impression of sunset.

I like the detail that you've incorperated in it. I expecially like the cape. Maybe the lighting could be a bit darker, but then again I like a more darker scene.

Thanks for the very kind words folks. It's always nice to here kind feedback from ones peers.

Re the road texture: I'm not sure what happened there - I must have reset the UV without noticing as it looks better in my earlier WIPs. D'oh!

Re the name of the pub - when I was a wee child in England there was an old pub across the road from where my family lived called "The Green Dragon" (Nez may even be familiar with it). One of my earliest memories is of tobogganing in the snow down the short slope behind the pub. I always thought that if I ever opened a pub I would call it The Green Dragon and in fact I have one tattooed on my arm (a green dragon not a pub!)

The graphic on the pub sign is from one of my earlier painting efforts and scanned - the sharp eyed amongst you will see the very same dragon is part of the pattern on the Wizards robe.

Thanks again folks

'Fraid I'm not familiar with that establishment...! Where was it? My brother would probably know it, he's the family drinker...

Like the picture - interesting atmosphere - am also inclined to agree about the shadows but the overall effect is pretty cool.

Hi Nez

If my memory serves me right (which is by no means a given!) the main road running from Rainham and the A2 down to the Strand is Gillingham road(?). The Green Dragon is (or was) right at the bottom, almost on the corner opposite the old gas works. Last time I recall seeing it was 1978 so my memories may well be a bit off. The Green Dragon was on the left (coming down the hill) opposite a flight of steps and a row of lock-ups.

I know exactly where you mean - I actually lived on Ingram Rd for a little while, renting a room in my (younger) brother's house, which was up closer to the level crossing.

Despite many a trip to the chippy at the bottom of the hill, I can't remember what the pub may have been called in my time there (which was about 4-6 years ago I guess).

Anyway, that's enough thread-jacking on my part... needless to say, your Green Dragon is a rather nicer looking establishment than may have graced Gillingham...
