Hello everyone, today i show the wip of my avatar. Make a head is not the hardest. The real difficulty is that it must be like me. But you can not judge it without knowing my current appearance. Everything I need is a photo and a mirror. I use only the sweep tool. I simply make for complicated results. |

Between each pass, I redraw the new surface. All polygons must have 4 sides, except the last surface created which will be removed. Polygons on the surface of the eyes are also deleted. Then i do a subdivision layer. At the end, a copy of the object is triangulated to avoid errors during the rendering. |

The eye is not a simple sphere and the texture are inside (iris, retina). I add a new objet above with glass reflectance. there is a lens inside between the iris and retina to give the impression that the light comes from inside. My approach is to understand what i see and keep it simple. |

Texture Maps, bumps and transparency map are classics but need many details and precisions. I use the plugin UV tools 2.5 from Primitive Itch and Illustrator or photoshop. |

Here is the final model. Then I use a mask to create a foreground effect shader for photoshop. You don't need a plugin to do zrender. (I use this method also to create realistic low relief of complex sculptur with displacement mapping, but that need another threath). here, it is to create an atmosphere of light. |

I think it is a bit older than me (more facial wrinkles). Not for long... |

And for the non-French speakers :D:
Thanks for posting on the forum Marcel, and coming with a tutorial !
Now, it's time to give a body to that head and make the Frankenstein monsters alive in Workspace : the time for our avatars to rise up and spread out on the surface of truePlay worlds is close !
Hum, perhaps this is not the correct translation of the French... but it may make sense also ;) |

Do not confuse these 2 names:
Marcel = Marcel Delord
Parva = Marcel Parva.
(i like his space cruiser) |

Interesting and informative approach to modelling a head. This technique works well when the model is not going to be animated. For animation a better vertex and edge flow is required.
Nice texture work Marcel. Merci for sharing! |

you're right.
this work is done to make high-definition pictures.
I don't know if the term "Avatar" is adapted.
It is for self-portrait, clone or caricature. |

That's a really nice portrait. :)
The modeling style reminds me of nurbs techniques from the old days. |
