Here is a simple test with Vray 1.0 contains Glass, caustics, SubScatter Surface (SSS), Transparent Shadows, Soft Shadows and Milk!! hehhe
The most dificult is get a good result with SSS.. I try to make a milk effect but is not convincent at all.. :( and i need to add more Subdivisions to eliminate the grain, but this render 1024x768 x3 tooks 1h 10m
Dont like the glass shader, allways get Black on the borders and is not real..
Just for share something.. |

nice render prodigy, but yeah the milk does look more like salt heh, the grain is bad. Im not quitre sure how to describe milk, but I think a very small amount of light travels through it, and you would probably be better using a white shader with some reflection added. also to achieve a good look, adding some convincing bubbles would help ie at the top of the glass |

Milk is a translucent white substance. try using a plastic shader to get the transluncency. For the glasses... what happens if you put your scene inside a box of planes? |

An emulsion yes milk. The seen-end-on glass may have a light underneath to act as the lightpipe maybe?
kena may I ask you please? I have heard of an 'enclosing cube' or something like that, to make sure that reflected light under the Vray renderer is not tracked to outer space - a cube that one creates around a scene to cut down render times. Can you please tell me how to implement an enclosing cube like this? Is it a cube with the interior cut out and scaled to enclose the lights and objects? TIA!

This used to be a trick for cutting down radiosity calculation time...can't say I have tried it in Vray though...
Effectively you would enclose your scene as if in a sealed room (so light cannot escape in or out) and render from the camera view inside the room. It really did work in tS6.6 to cut down radiosity calculation times but Vray is so fast anyway... |

V-Ray doesnt use radiosity at all. Radiosity is only available under Lightworks.
Note that GI pretty much replaces radiosity, but does the calculations in a completely different way, giving better results in less time and featuring the same items like color bleeding and light bouncing.
However, since the calculations are approached in a different way, time saving tricks on Radiosity are unlikely to be of much use for speeding up GI, eg the enclosing in a box item I do not think would have any effect on GI calculations (other than blocking the light from your external environment, so it would speed things up in that sense ;) )
HTH!

Thanks, anybody knows a workarround to get that black lines fixed??
I know that lines comming fron the refraction but is not good, maybe somebody knows a good workarround..:( |

My Idea was to use 6 planes to enclose your scene. that way, the glass would not see your background color and the black would change color to your plane color. It looks like you are having a problem with the refraction doing the blackness. I suppose you could try using less refraction on the material to see if it helps as well, but then the stuff inside the glass may not look right. Try it both ways to see. |

Now This looks much much better.. what you think!! :D

To fix this problems First:
For Vray Users only
choose Fresnel shader > internal reflections enabled > And!!! the most important set the reflections to a highest value like 0.9..
Cos i allways use low levels of reflactance to set a more realistic glass i never see the internal reflections..
Hope that helps others!! :jumpy:
IM HAPPY NOW!!
BTW, on this renders i use, HDri + transparent shadows. No caustics here.. ;) |

Lol, im working right now on a new tutorial to show how you can add liquids on a glass, or a bottle very quickly and with the best result as posible.... ;)
I love make tutorials but i dont have to much time.. thats a problem.. :( |

that glass is brilliant! the only unrealistic thing i can see is the shadow but that would probably be fixed if you put caustics in, superb work prodigy. I'm paying more attention to this vray stuff since i ordered it! |

Hi Prodigy. That looks much better.
The only comment I would make is regarding the glass of milk.
The rim looks too, well, Milky i.e. white.
Other than that, it looks really good.

very much better. I agree that the milk glass gets too much white on it, but I think that is a property of your material. It is reflecting what is in the glass. If you compare that with the cool-aid in the other glass, the reflection is the same, but cool aid is clear red and milk is ... well ... Milky white :D |

Here is a cool example using SSS to make milk... (http://graphics.ucsd.edu/%7Ehenrik/images/imgs/milk.jpg)
Just i cant do the same result yet! ehhehe
i think the 2nd is the most realistic..
the first is more like dirty water.. the 3rd is like white ink... |

I remember that I've read about that image before and that he tells what he does and why in each of them, might have been a discussion on a forum as well so might be hard to find.
Sorry forgot, now it looks really really good!

I have serious dubts about if they are using some kind of SSS shader to make the liquid..
Who knows...
SSS doesnt support transparency yet.. |

Looking great Prodigy! You sure are a producing in high gear! :)
Enjoyable works! Wish I could picture images like this in my head. Mine tend to be too "mechanical" if that makes sense. More practice perhaps will help me get in touch with my artistic side. |
