So I saw the greatest movie last night, 'Sunshine' Perhaps Britains most expensive and best movie ever, and I have to say its the best movie ive ever seen!.
So I got very inspired! and here is the first image I have created based on the movie, I tried to recreate the Observation Room on the Icarus 2 spaceship.
I intend to make a few more renders, it takes a long long time as Im rendering at a particularly high resolution and using some incredibly bright area lights using VRay rendering. I did some colour correction in photoshop to match the reflected light colour with the colour of the sun, along with some layering to emphasize the brightness.
Please tell me what you guys think

i love the first render. Maybe put a couple of characterson the bench getting a tan? i pre fer the golden oranges and reds in the first one over the predominatly yellow colour of the second. The sun seems to look a bit to flat on the second as well. Great work though |

Awesome stuff here Matski007, I really love these.
Is this that sci-fi movie with Sean Connery? If so it was an interesting one. I Haven't seen it in ages but I vaguely recall some cool scenes in an observation room on that ship.
Well done, and a great idea as well. ;)

Cheers for the comments guys

A good idea but my character modelling skills are very bad heh

it is heh, I wouldnt know where to begin in making a 3d one lol, a mammoth task I thought I could get away with doing one in photo shop, this consisted of about 3 sun images blended together and lots of layers heh

Are you kidding?! lol, it has just been released at Cinema a few weeks ago I believe. visit http://www.sunshinedna.com/
Its by the people who made Trainspotting and 28 Days Later, although not as much to do with the recent 28 Weeks Later, which seems to have been americanised and thus ruined |

If you're using an image on a flat plane just angle it toward the camera, that might solve it |

lol, well in the second image i did do that, I added it in photoshop instead, I might have a go at making a 3d map of the sun for some future images, it is after all just a ball heh.
Also I meant to say "3D" not "4D" of course a 4D image of the sun would be impossible, because I dont even know what 4D is, and very few do lol |

4D would be animation. The 4th dimension is time. |

The fourth dimension is time....or animation as it is in the 7.5 workspace. We perceive objects and process the visual data by assessing the three dimensional space an object occupies...but we learn more about it by watching it in action-the fourth dimension. Of course, just like the 3rd dimension, it is an illusion. Things can only reallt exist on a 2D plane (computer screen) at the moment. Like all good fantasy and fiction, it is how we 'reimagine' what see or how much we buy into the illusion.
Darn. Frootee beat me to it while I was typing... |

Ah I see, ok then, I always sorta knew that but wasnt sure it was sort of definate, after reading wikipedia It appears to be correct lol. Well creating it in 4D would be hard anyway heh, I dont think truespace has the necesary tools to create a realistic looking animated sun heh |

However many 'D's you used it's a good start Matski. I've not yet seen the movie though I'm envious that you have - it's had some very good reviews and as a serious sci-fi fan I know that sci-fi and good reviews are not that common! I'm very keen to see it myself. (Speaking of Sci-fi and poor reviews I finally got to see The Island last night and all I can think about is Scarlett Johansen!).
Getting back to your picture I can't help thinking that the sun needs to be much brighter, almost burnt out because it's so bright but as I said, I've not yet seen the movie. |

thanks Wizard, I watched the Island thinking it wouldnt be very good, but it surprised me, being a rather good film, interesting plot and lovely camer angles.
In sunshine the observation room is capable of showing the sun as It is in my picture (although looks much better in movie) because there is a pane of glass with some sort of shielding acting like Sunglasses, during the film it is set to display about 1% of the suns brightness at its current distance, only a few times being set to 3% for 30 seconds before the guys eyes explode heh, you have to watch it to understand, but exploration of the magic that is the suns light, and also what its like being so close is truly amazing |

Kinda reminds me of a "Dr. Who" episode.
How about a pair of sunglasses on the floor?
Great job! |
