I entered this tS 6.6 picture in the Fantastic Worlds Contest over at 3dcommune.com - and to my pleasant surprise it was selected as the winner! There were 40 or more entries and I think this was the only trueSpace entry. :D

So, Caligari earns some more kudos for their great software and I win a copy of MojoWorld 3 Pro. Good news all round I'd say :).

As always comments and critiques are most welcome

Thanx

Stephen

Congratulations!! :) Well deserved, it's not just a matter of the tool, but what you make with it. The brush does not make the artist. :D

Now I have to check what MojoWorld 3D is...

I noticed this yesterday when the 3D Commune email went out, knew the image since it was pretty unforgettable.

Good job! It is really nice to see images being posted "out there". I know we have a great forum here, unlike many other packages where people have to go to third party forums to have a nice home, but the drawback is we all mainly sit here and post our images here.... and no-one else gets to see or hear about them :(

I know there is a LOT of stunning artwork, WIP, tests, experiments, fun etc that turns up here on our forums - yet the 3D Commune and Renderosity trueSpace forums remain empty, and the galleries see barely an update.

We have some thoughts about this, which I hope we can share soon. Meantime though just to say, do remember to tell the rest of the world what you are doing and wow them with your work. You could even end up winning well-deserved prizes from contests in other sites :)

Good job Wizard, and well deserved.

Thanks guys. I've just posted a higher resolution (1280 x 1024) version to my Renderosity Gallery (link in my signature below) and if anyone wants an even bigger one (2560 x 2048) PM me with an email addy.

@rrf: A tutorial would be massive for this! Some of these models I made with tS 3.2 almost 5 years ago! I keep almost all the models and textures that I make as a resource for other pictures. The castle for example featured in a series of pictures that won first prize in the Caligari monthly gallery contest some time ago and one of the houses in the foreground (or should that be fore arm?) featured in a picture that won me a copy of Bryce 5 which I never use (didn't like the UI coz I've been spoilt by the tS interface ;) ).

So you can see this picture has some history and pedigree! I can tell you that the background was rendered first without the hands. The result was then used in the tS background shader and the light set up copied to light the forground. This helped to keep the poly count at manageable levels.

@Skipper - Mojoworld is a fractal planet maker using fractal algorythms it allows you to render whole planets with moons and rings from orbital distances and then zoom right in to ground level without losing any detail. I'm not sure how much I'll use it (after all I have tS 7.5 to play with) but it will be a nice tool to have in my bag of tricks.

Thanks Tom - Caligari has been very generous to me so I always try to spread the word out there as a way of giving back. I support the 3dcommune and Renderosity galleries and forums as much as I can - they're not all that busy but there's some good folk that use them.

I'd be right behind any efforts to liven those forums up a bit.

Hi Wizard,

I have seen your images turn up as the featured image in the newsletters from those sites, quite frequently in fact :) We couldn't ask for a better ambassador I would say, and you do a fine job. I also really like that you use tS with other packages to get the exact results you like and want, such as Vue. Good to see how tS works with other packages and isn't there to replace them or fight against them.

And there are people on those forums who never post here, some great spaceship renders show up in the tS galleries that never show up here too, so it works the other way as well.

All the same, I think it would be cool to show what people can produce using tS to the world at large. I know many images here are deserving of prizes and praise and would rate highly on those sites.

Hmm, could you mail me the large image you mention, I would enjoy seeing that - just zap it along to thomas@caligari.com :) This particular image reminds me of the "prog rock" style album covers and artwork I used to like, kind of Roger Dean and Rodney Matthews in its content to me at any rate, and there aren't enough of that kind of images around these days hehe!

Thanks!

Tom

It's on it's way Tom.

Man you are so right about some of those tS spaceships in the Rendo gallery - there's some very classy stuff there (of course Madmouse posts there too!).

Chuckle - you've busted me! Roger Dean is one of my all time artistic heroes and it was exactly the type of prog rock albums that he illustrated that have influenced my own music (and art) - I still listen to Yes quite regularly :D I like that spacey otherworldly feel of artists like Roger Dean, Chris Foss (love his space art) and of course Frank Frazetta. It's good to know it shows through.

Great image, you are making trueSpace look good indeed. Even better you spread the word (well image:) outside of Caligari comunity, we appreciate that.

Thank you all for the kind words - it's the support and input of the folk here on the forum and the folk at Caligari that make it all possible and so rewarding.

I got my confirmation email today that I'm receiving MojoWorld 3 Pro so I've lots more learning ahead of me. Looks like I'm going to need a way to export tS models into Mojo!
