Either that or make some toast to put them on! (Homer Simpson dreamy voice "Mmmmm... Mushrooms on toast, Mmmm!):D:D

OK I obviously need lots of help for trees. I really cannot envision going through this UV mapping tile by tile. Maybe I just need to import a Vue tree here. Or take a few months to fix this one. ;)

If all you are going to show is a front view, then a planar UV along with some nice texture/normal maps will suffice for the tree.

Looking good Kena! A few alpha mapped planes in front of the mushrooms to give the clovers some depth would help to make them look more like they grow around the mushrooms. You could also add some vines hanging down the the right side of the tree to give that some visual interest.

About the tree, I agree with James. Also you can planar map it in sections then sew the sections together in the UV Editor.

the ground plane is just there to hold space for me. Tree and Mushrooms are pretty much where I want them, but I want a ground that has a bit of up and down to it. Not much, just a bit. The texture editor in TS is reallllllly hard to work with.

So how did you end up UV Mapping the Mushrooms? Did you use one Spherical Map or did you try Planner on top and Cylindrical for the base?
I'm looking forward to Jack's tutorial on UV Mapping and see a Miracle be performed! Up to now the only person that could get anything remotely
useful out of the WorkSpace UVMapping was Shike.

I used Spherical. The same pattern you saw in an earlier post. I cut off the bottom of the Mushroom/Sphere so I could tell where to put whatever it was.

The tree trunk is giving me the most headaches. after joining the roots to the trunk, the UV went strange, so re-mapping them so something I understand is hard work.

You could use NURBS for the tree stump with the roots attached rather than the way you have it portrayed. They will deform outwards nicely :)

You think this one is any better? It's a TS-Vue render

I like it Kena - the tops of the mushies could use some bump or Normals texture as they look a bit plasticky. Also I suspect that this scene would be an excellent opportunity to try out Parvas excellent grass making tutorial. Mushrooms are often found amongst grass.

I'm not that good at Vue yet though. and I'm sure that the grass tutorial would not work there. Very hard to model in Vue, so I modeled in TS and imported to Vue. Took me 3 hours to texture the mushrooms in that last one. I agree with the plastic mushrooms though. More to learn.

Yeah man! That's way better. Ididn't realise you were actually rendering the mushies in Vue (where did you learn that trick?;)). I actually thought you had rendered them in the workspace against a foggy Vue backdrop!

What version of Vue do you have - with the brilliant Ecosystem instancing abilities of the Vue 6 range you can gat some great grass that way...

Only the last two were rendered in Vue. I agree that you can get a lot of good plants there, but they just didn't have anything I wanted/could use.

Got out the credit card throuh, and added some grasses to my collection.

It's Vue 6 Infinite. I tried Esprit, which was such a good deal (I thought), but then discovered that for my workflow, I would need to buy another module... did that, and discovered that I would actually need to buy 3 more modules as I needed "One from column A and two from Column B", so just went whole hog with my Tax refund check and got the big one.

Here is my latest effort... Think we can call it done now?

yeah they look better with the bump. I think you just need to mess with the lights a little it's a bit dull. Nice Kena :)

NO WAIT....
Touch up the base of each mushroom so that they look like their going through the soil and not sitting on the soil. (it won't take more than a minute to fix)
I love the texture on the Mushrooms now. The bump mapping did the trick. You have something odd going on the back tree bark. Not sure if that was part of the texture or something else weird going on.
I like how this has improved. :)

It may sound off, but I love mushrooms...modeling them, rendering them etc....you can put a lot of character into them. I really like yours.

Thanks 3d.... glad you like it.
@ steinie - Actually, about a quarter inch of most of the mushrooms are below the ground. I just left one slightly out for effect.
@ nowherebrain - I like mushrooms too. you can get a mushroom pack for Vue, but I like mine better.

Yeah man - this is coming along nicely - Your tree trunks look a bit 'clean'. Vue 6 Infinite? Nice - must have been a good tax rebate! I've got Vue 6 Pro Studio which includes all the modules. Check out the Vue displacement materials to give those trees a bit more 'gnarl'.

Also an extra tree or two merging into the background fog could look nice.

Lastly, mushies tend to grow best in the Autumn so you could add a few autumn leaves in the background too.

Or not:D

Looks good though

Need fairies, butterflies, glitterdust, and light rays, but other than that it's looking done. :) Nice work Kena!

Yeah, they always look done at this point, but I just couldn't help adding a bit more to the background... then I Just had to spend a couple of hours putting various filters on the "camera" to give it an "edge of a deep forest" look.

You might want to use a projector light to give the sense of light passing through leaves and the trees above. It would also help to add more dynamism to the image.

nice, pop that one in your portfolio. This darker feeling brings out the textures really well.

Nice work Kena. Its been quite remarkable watching the transition from basic model to woodland scene. Impressive stuff.

Thanks 3D.... I seem to be getting better all the time.

It would also help to add more dynamism to the image.I will have to see if Vue HAS a projector light. I'm planning on making a window for the speed model challange, maybe I will be able to get to it later.
