I'm no longer supporting this thread however if any other Cartoonist out there wants to continue it be my guest.

A word of warning, you'll be the laughing stock.

I have removed all my work from these forums.

Any Poser Babe artist out there?

Originality have any merit around here?

Yea that's a good one....

Bummer, not sure what is going on, but you and your work are one of the bright stars of the Caligari forums. As for laughing stock... well I am not sure about that, though I do giggle often when viewing your work :)

Please not another "I'm leaving these forums" post...

I'm sure Roman was chuckling too when he threw my renderings in the Poopie Pile. I'm totally tired of being "Filler" in his gallery 18 different times. What really got me is the no winner again BS. IF there is no Winner than continue it to next month. Nope instead let's show the Losers instead. The rule about if there is not enough quality renderings you can't win is Bogus. So lack of quality entries demeans your own?

Rich,
I had a good time with you guys too. I'll be looking forward to more of your talented works.
Splinters,
Thanks for the nice words (even if they were my own!) :D I've always enjoyed your work too.

Caligari,
Did you ever hear the saying "You don't know what your missing until it's gone"?

Nope no goodbyes, I'm just going to be a Ninja. I started in these forums back in the 90's. The people that have come and gone in these forums will always be fondly remembered by me. Some of you know I will put my money where my mouth is. I've done it for many of you to help out. Prizes here were never the issue. Merit was.

Bob, sorry to see you this bent out of shape amigo!

You know me well enough to know I'll speak up about something I disagree with - just let me say first that I'm not saying you're wrong - only that I see it differently.

You appear to be saying that as there are no winners, everyone is a loser. But surely if there was a winner everyone else would be a loser? Can't say as I see much difference there!

I also don't get the 'Poopie Pile' reference - to be honest I feel this comment is far more demeaning than Roman electing to exercise his right not to award any first prizes. The way I see it, having my submission selected for inclusion makes me a winner. It's another venue for my work and has bought me several job offers from folk who have seen my work in the Caligallery - none of them panned out but still, that's a nice reward for the whole minute and a half of effort required to submit a picture!

Sorry my friend, but I do not accept having your artwork selected for inclusion in someone else's gallery as 'throwing them on the poopie pile'. Especially because by inference that means my art is also on the poopie pile!:D

Re: "lack of quality entries demeans your own? "... Um... how? Parking my Lexus in a row of Honda Civics does not demean my Lexus - it's still a quality artefact regardless of what sits next to it.

I take the attitude that, if Roman (or anyone else) cannot appreciate my artwork (or yours come to that) then it's his loss, not mine. His opinion represents something like 1 8 billionth of the worlds opinion.

Whilst respecting you decision to remove your pics from this thread I have to say I think that you make the world a poorer place by this action. I'm sure I'm not the only person who will miss your work here. I'm not sure how depriving us all of the pleasure of seeing your work here achieves anything though no doubt you have reasons of your own.

It was sad enough loosing JamesMC's zany humour without loosing yours as well!

Wizard,

We come from two different focal points. I will always consider your post as friendly and you should take mine as the same. (even if they don't sound like it)

If a Lexus was submitted in a Gallery of Civics it should win right? Not according to their rules, you have to have another other Lexus next to it to win.

The other mystery is that I see Civics win at times to. So the Gallery to me is flawed.

Read the current rules about "Creativity" if you said that to an Artist they would know right away what that means but not here. In Caligari land "Creativity" means Creative use of TOOLS.

Sorry but being creative with the tools means you really don't know how I did it. Not knowing how an Artist did it seems to win around here.

Can you say PS, Silo, etc etc.

Like I said before all this won't change until users stand their ground. Caligari always claims to listen to us so let us be heard.

You know why I pulled all my work? Not once did somebody say my work was GOOD. When there is a discussion about Artwork at these forums the standard group of names are posted but not mine. I'm smart enough to realize that everyone might just be right. My 3D work is not up to par. That is why I pulled it off, in the end nobody really cared. That is the problem doing Cartoon work it doesn't get taken seriously. What I tried to bring to the Gallery was "creativity" but that can't replace quality and evidently doesn't get credit either. It is hard to make coal into a diamond, it is even harder to make a Cartoon into one.

I am sorry you feel unappreciated steine. It's true that cartoon work doesn't get the praise realistic work does. I am quite fond of doing cartoon too. I just want to let you know I always appreciated your work and yes I thought it was quite good.

I so do NOT believe that - in terms of ARTWORK I would think of your work above many others, and I'm sure I'm not alone. Whilst I can admire the technical execution of a good piece of archviz or similar, it takes more than precision to make a great piece of art. A great image maybe, but not a great piece of art necessarily. There's certainly more to art than a flashy Vray render...

There's few on the forum that rival your artistic ability and imagination and personally I think your work is both inspirational, challenging and a great demonstration of the versatility of tS to do more than just standard archviz/product renders. And that's quite aside from your personal efforts to constructively help others, motivate participation and the generosity of providing Dribble in getting the MMC off the ground.

The day you give up on submitting work here is a very sad day indeed...:(

Let me stop this before some of you gag...

I really do appreciate the kind words and how some of you actually care. Artist are a fickle bunch and I guess we all go through moments of self doubt.

After my very very brief hiatus I decided to remain with you guys and support the MMC when I can. I never really enjoyed the SMC since my pleasure comes from the design/creation process.

I went over all the various WIPs from very early on and I am amazed that no one has really emphasized color theory in their works. That will be one of my focuses.

I went through and reread post from all those that wished me back. (and those that did so in private in case they got arrested). Those names will forever be my pals. The rest of you are ass-ociates.:)

Well quite honestly the stuff I create, I do for myself first and foremost. If no one else likes it, I Truly Just don't care. It makes me feel good to make something ***I*** like. That's right... it's All About ME! :D

I do like your cartoons Steinie. I also like other artwork here though I don't always say so; I start feeling like a boring scratched record if I keep saying GOOD JOB! all the time.

Anyway... that's my 2 cents; but I need them for gas money. :)

Hey you wanna laugh, go look a the number of -people that post or comment in my threads :D;)

It's hard sometimes, I have really been focusing on photography and creating digital media with it as opposed to standard 3D, been there and done that... frankly I was not too good at it. My photography has hit a point where I really am not getting the imapct I was hoping for, many of the forums I post to get almost no hits and zero comments... now that is a tough thing to deal with when you are looking for whether you are hitting the pulse...

Do I quit? Do I storm out cursing all of those non believer's, don't they understand I am an "Artist!!!" what is wrong with all of those dumb a$$ bastards!!!... I am a genius! Don't they see that!!!

OK... rant over, I'll put down the knife now...;), yes... I think I feel better now (slowly slumps down into a fetal position on the floor)... I'll be ok now... I... I... promise...

So, we all go thru it, and we all have to deal with it, it is what makes us reach a little further to find other ways to get all of those things inside us that are just screaming to come out...

Always in admiration and respect of what you create.

Rich

LOL - The best artists are always the "Tortured Artists" - don't go hacking or your ear or hitting the absinthe and laudanum just yet Bob!

One thing I learned as a performing muso - what a person like says more about theat person than it does about the things they like (or dislike). I couldn't count the number of times I've had someone on one side of the audience booing me and calling me 'rubbish' while someone else on the other side is yelling 'more more'.

Over the years I've had repeated criticisms that my work is not 'photorealistic' and therefore isn't 'real' 3d but if someone cannot appreciate my work it's their loss, not mine!

Froo hits the nail on the head - it's about making the art for yourself - if others appreciate it..well that's nice but very secondary.

As a photographer I love tS and 3d's ability to 'photograph' the unreal scenes I see in my head - so for me it's about capturing that internal vision as well as I can.

Your work has a Dali-esque feel about it - a humourous (and slightly cynical?) reflection of the world that is somewhat warped (like Dali's melting clocks). Such warped visions can make some people feel...uncomfortable. Most folk surround themselves with photos of family, friends and familiar places - things that make them feel comfortable. Work like yours, and to lesser extent mine, has a built in 'unreal factor' that some find disconcerting. It challenges their preferred (safe) vision of the world which leads them to feel uncomfortable.

Those with the imagination and eyes to see will also have their vision of the world challenged but will find this refreshing and stimulating and exciting.

From a commercial perspective, when one wants to highlight and advertise their product, one will try to choose a middle path between showing the known and the familiar in a way that is fresh and stimulating but not uncomfortable.

The music of Bruce Springsteen springs (no pun intended) to mind - he was middling along being generally ignored because his music was not 'mainstream'. He records 'Born in the USA', a shamelessly manipulative tune cashing in on American Patriotism, but quite different to his usual stuff - he catered to the masses. This got them listening to his other stuff.... it's called marketing!

This leaves artists of all types with a dilemma - do they follow their own vision, creating art for themselves regardless of public response or do they bow to the laws of consumerism and mass market appeal and create something that they know will 'sell', or at least meet the approval of the uneducated masses?

FWIW I've always admired your work because it's uncompromisingly true to yourself as the artist - it does not cater to the barbie-doll, poser-babe, photoreal norms. I think you should feel very proud of yourself and proud of your work - I also think you should keep putting it out there regardless of the response.

Mr 3d " I enjoy creative humor......heck, just seeing you change your picture (avatar) every time I've visited this past week is funny to me!!!"

Steinie: You don't visit quick enough, their animated too...:D

@ Rich Levy I'm very guilty of not responding to your work. I'm always admiring your photo skills and the "other approach" to creating 3D work. (Which I used on the throne in "3 Nights of Jester" by the way.)
Everything you've shown us is very creative and I for one have enjoyed and learned from your stuff. Admittedly you sometimes talk over my head since I'm not a photographer. (Well I do keep a little digital with me at all times in case the Dog makes a funny expression:rolleyes:)

@ SpaceKdet is a man (or woman?:p) of few words but hit's the core of the problem each time. Your wayyyy under appreciated.

@ trueBlue and Stan our my technical Wizards and always willing to help me. Your still "Ninjas I tell ya" :)

@ Breech Block, your talents haven't gone unnoticed and I can also tell you actually care about what is going on around here. Your very much needed here! Thanks for your support.

@ Nez you went to a lot of work to prove me wrong. (my Wife doesn't put in that much effort to prove me wrong!;)
Your post brought me back.

@ Wizard is a man of few words....err... ummm starting over.:p

@@ Wizard you have come to lift my spirits on more than one occasion. It is a shame you live so far away because I'd love to share a Beer with you. Your the Wizard of Light!

EDIT!!!: @Splinters a fellow Cartoonist in a 3D world. Your deep rooted passion for this is amazing and your commitment to the younger folk commendable. My Wife is a teacher and
I used to Teach so I can appreciate the value your talents bring. Your volume of quality work speaks for itself.

I really feel your all Pals.

I've always enjoyed Art that was slightly different and made you think. Most of my work is done before I sit down to it. (I have lots of time in that Dog House). The creation process and scene layout are my favorite parts of a new piece. After the design phase it feels like "work", attempting to get a finished rendering that matches my vision.
I think deep down we all want others to enjoy our work. Everything I do is suppose to be shared. My own walls are bare of my own stuff yet everyone I know has my stuff hanging. I just don't enjoy my work unless someone else does. It is your enjoyment that I strive for. I want you to be the Ant that discovers a speck of sugar then excitedly relays it's pleasure to the rest of the eusocial colony and the whole mass vibrates with excitement....

Ok everybody start vibrating...:D

I said I wasn't going to participate in the Gallery until there were changes made. Caligari is finally making an effort to improve the Gallery voting and taking suggestions from forum members. That is a very good thing for all of us. I have heard complaints for years about the voting and now is your chance to make it better. Please take a moment and let Tom G know what changes you would like to see.Your opinion does count and should be heard like the rest of us. I want this to be a group idea and not just a few of us.

Go to this link and tell us what YOU think.
