I really liked Matski007 Fractal Rendering and wanted to share a piece I had experimented with. Work was done using Apophysis 2.02 and TS 7.0.

...reminds me of sperm entering an egg ...

Urk! Scary thought! (Blood runs cold at thoughts of paternity suits etc!).

Cool picture though Steinie - I always enjoy checking out the fractal gallery at 3dcommune so I'm a bit of a fan although it's not the sort of art I do myself.... well actually I'm about to post a couple of pics I made using MojoWorld which is all done using fractals.

I like that! I'm an Apophoholic .. can spend a lot of time rendering fractals!

I was thinking how I could combine them with 3d work.. and there you are - really cool :)

Thanks Butterpaw! Fractals are just so much fun to create. Your digging up some of my older stuff now and I forgot about this one. We must try another rendering with fractals soon, how about it?:)

I share your love of fractals Steinie, for sure.

A long time ago I got hooked on Apophysis, went on their mailing list for a while but was absolutely inundated with daily posts and had to stop that! LOL!

I have a ton of them on my hard drive still and once in a while I dust one off and pop it into some trueSpace wall image in a scene file just to remind myself how much I'd like to be able to create 3D versions of them inside trueSpace.

Back in April I tried to talk Frootee into making a new Plugin for trueSpace which would read the text file output of Apophysis files and parse the 2D color hues into 3D depth coordinates. He was into the idea somewhat but hasn't pursued it unfortunately and now we are both too buried in other things to even think about doing it ourselves.

I wonder if maybe there is some trueSpace Scripting genius around here somewhere with a bit of time on their hands to resurrect that idea. Sure would be awesome if we could take the incredible output of Apophysis text files and convert them to genuine 3D models inside trueSpace.

I know a few folks with the talent to do it but they are all neck-deep or worse in existing projects and upcoming ones. Maybe between us, you and I, if we keep our eyes peeled for a scriptor with spare time or one looking for a new project then one of us can get them to look into doing this for us rather than something else.

I'll be watching for sure.

Keep on Fractalizing!:)

Yay Apophysis on tS!! :D

Yes, Steinie, time to get them out again.. and Mark you too! ^_^

...maybe there's some way we can tantalize froo into working on that project Mark ;)

it's crazy, doesn't seem to be possible to have just a sensible amount of participation ... it's either not there or takes one over completely!

I love deviantArt (where the Apophysis originators and many who've joined the ranks hang out) but that gets overwhelming too.. :p so, I dip in from time to time and am blown away by the beauty of their renders

Another Apophysis fan here too...

I've used images from it once or twice as material within a TS scene - e.g. some of the paintings on the walll of my MMC Beach House were Apophysis images colour co-ordinated to my decor! (see below)

For those of you with Terragen, I recently found a tutorial about importing Apophysis images into Terragen to form strange terrains (I think you used the Firmamemnt plug-in). I didn't get round to giving it a proper go, but I've successfully exported Terragen terrains into TS before as well, so it would be a slightly convoluted process (Apophysis to Terrgaen to TS) but may be feasible... Have just tried it out quickly - used a fractal I did for the Beach House, whipped it into Terragen, exported as a Lightwave object and into TS - see below. Not the best choice of fractal, but it works.

Interested to see any other routes people try out...

Yay Nez! the Apophishes gather... :)

That's pretty neat, being able to turn a fractal into a terrain...
hmmm..... would be interesting to explore. I have a really ancient version of Terragen... ^_^

So.... How about it ButterPaw? We have a Christmas Ornament contest going on for Trueplace...

Want to do a joint entry? I've turned your Fractal into a texture for the torus.

Looks good Kena.
Funny I was doing my version with Butterpaw's fractal too. I hope she doesn't mind. I wanted her to see what I was talking about earlier using this fractal as a Wreath. I don't think it's THAT unusual.:)
I hope you two work on the 3D version, mine is just 2D. Yours could look great for the Ornament Contest. Good Luck if you decide to do it.

lol - It's all up to ButterPaw. I'm not good with bows, but if someone can come up with one, then we can maybe to a 3 person submission! hehehe

EDIT:
Then again.... How about this one?
9973

I used colors pulled out of the Wreath to make the striped bow, and then added a bit of a bump map to make it look more like cloth. A very little bit of transparency gives the bow a bit of the translucency of cloth as well

Just curious if any one had a chance to play with the Mandelbrot texture object in the Objects - Script objects library. Pretty neat item.

@Kena and Steinie - Awww how sweet of you.. yeah I was thinking of that, go to town on it.. I will try to put one up too we can offer a grouping jointly
my thought was to do it flat inside a transparent torus.. don't know if that's possible .. would be especially cool if the image could be ... translucent.. (like the way we used to bake things into those plastic pellets.. making paperweights and such) are my ideas outrunning the software? :p
Anyway I really like your interpretations!.. is the image hi-res enough for you? I'll try something tonight too.

I found this fractal interesting because some ways I could make it look more like grasshoppers, and other ways more like fish .. with tails even. ;)

I noticed the Mandelbrot, Norm, nice to have that too - the more the better!:)

Apophysis uses the Fractal Flame Algorithm (http://flam3.com/flame_draves.pdf) which is rather different. The link is to the maths page in case you are interested.

^_^

Oh! and by the way......... Apophysis 2.06 3D Fractal Hack (http://news.deviantart.com/article/35595/)

Here are the textures I used for my wreath - maybe it can save you a small bit of time

I squared off your fractal first

9990

Then I made a BMP file and cut out the ring.. Unfortunately, the forums will not allow me to upload that one, so I had to convert it to jpg as well. Should still work as a transparency mask.

9991

And here is a quick test of the texture.

The one on the left uses the defaults except for using an image and transparency mask.

The one on the right I used Caligari Phong and increased the Transmission.

Wreath of the Apophishes

I feel like a little kid surrounded by magicians :D

I will try it .. although I didn't understand everything.. so I might be asking some questions ;)

LOL!

Since everyone seems to be having a good old fractal frenzy here I figured I may as well toss this concept into the mix here too, maybe somebody can find a use for it anyway.:)

Here's a TrueType Font called "OV Fractal Symbols" I made ages ago with Apophysis and Corel Draw9. It's the first font I ever made so it is a bit rough around the edges, ie: it is 1.4 meg huge for instance! Hahahaha!

Nevertheless, maybe somebody can find a way to get some use out of it, and at least it proves there's always other ways to use fractals too.

Enjoy,

Hey MarkO that's totally excellent - I've grabbed your fractal font and I'll have a bit of a play with it. There are some well-cool symbols and shapes there. Thanks heaps.

My pleasure guy!

Actually if you ever spot Corel 9 for sale (and it is usually pretty cheap when it's sold by folks) you can use it to make your own TrueType fonts too. I have a tutorial on how to do that which I found on the web ages ago and saved to disk. They come in handy once in a while anyway, glad you like them!

VRay 1.5
Apophysis206 3D_hack
MakeHuman

The working title is " Icarus Jr." (but there is more to come) ;)
All comments welcome.
