I'm actively working to fulfill an idea that recently dawned on me. It's quite good, and if given the proper care it needs, it could get quite big. It's called KreativeRank.com. It's a site where people share their artwork online, wether it's an animation, a piece of poetry, illustration, song, or anything in between! On top of this, users, who register for free, gain access to a forum, where users can help each other out. Best of all, users will get paid cash for their work (money will come from ads). So far, I've purchased two domain names:
http://kreativerank.com
and
http://creativerank.com
I'm currently working to make the page layout, so here's my progress so far:
http://kreativerank.com/home.html
Why kreativerank?
Each user will get their pay for their artwork, but the specifc amount will be based on their own personal rating, or rank. This rank, which grows as the user's popularity does, de4termines the amount of cash they receive.
Nice idea, huh?
What do you all think? |

sounds like you have a good idea and I have seen similar stuff, the only problem is have you thought through wether you will actually earn enough money to pay for your hosting and domain plus enough to pay them? If I were you I would start it up without the reward scheme and build from there. You can start putting adverts on your website (Google AdSense/AdWords is good) and start getting revenue to atleast pay your running costs.
Also I think that you havent looked enough at other similar websites to determine an appropriate design, for example black backgrounds are not particularly popular.
What kind of system are you using? are you using a CBS? (content based management system) you ought to look into using Joomla (or Mambo) from which you can create a template for your website then use various plugins for user pages.
Im sorry to sound negative but you have a good idea however you seemed to have jumped into it far too quickly.
Id be happy to help you as I do have experience in web design including CBS's |

Nice idea. I personally like the black. I think the dark mood works because the cool blue bars on the side give it interest. I like your logo too. Good luck with the project. |

It's a really great idea and I wish you every success. You will however have to think very carefully about protecting yourself from copyright infringement lawsuits. When my animation "The Last Tomorrow" won the Caligari monthly competition I received several e-mails from similair websites inviting me to display my work in a pay-per-view arrangement. This despite the fact I'd used the main title theme from Battlestar Galactica. I knew there would be trouble if I profited from its use and politely declined their offers. Your potential client base may not be so law abiding. |

I'll be actively working to make myself "fireproof" before this becomes final. It'll be in the works for quite some time.
I made some recent changes to the site. It's still at the same link, but for the heck of it, I'll make a repost:

Good idea!
Another thing to fireproof against is cheating on the popularity rank. Since higher rank earns more money your customers will vote for themselves a zillion times or get some one else to.
For the copyright thing ... make customers agree to a contract or terms of service including that the customer claims to have the right to display the piece. Include that you are displaying the images/music/writings based on that claim and that the customer bears all responsibility for copyright violations. Also note that the customer grants you permission to show the stuff so he can't say you're violating his copyright. |

Good points there..
The only way you can guarantee 1 vote per person for an item is to force people to login. All other ways are able to be fooled (cookies, ip address etc etc) |
