I am posting an image of a factory for beads I made for fun. I love to hear what you think of it. It has too many poly's so that my laptop is at its knees when I work on the scene. I wanted to create an old rusty factory where shiny beads are baked from some sort of bead dough :D
It is Vray rendering, the background picture was added later.

Hi
Can I be first to say - 'thats a great render'. Love all the pipes and tubes, lighting is superb too.
Well done.

Art always starts with an Idea and this was a good one! I like everything about your render except the background factory looks flat. Maybe blur slightly?
I hope you submit this to the Gallery. |

Nice work Georg - I echo Steinies remarks. 3d computer art seems to suit scenes with lots of pipes and ducts.
The background factory looks a little 'added after'. Some dirty streaked glass in the window, perhaps a broken window pane? Otherwise excellent.
ps - thanks for your recent comment on my November pix.:D |

Oh! I love the factory.. very imaginative and it looks like it would be fun to get into that room!
I think clouding windows some could be good ... IMHO, it's not necessary to distract the eye from inside the room, and whatever is outside should be fairly induistinct. ^_^ |

Beautiful render!
I agree about the windows being too clean. Also the material for the belt and beads look off. The belt looks more like a shiny metal than a rubber material.
Definitely a gallery winner! :jumpy: |

I'd echo most of the above comments - I love scenes full of complicated strange pipework, and strange something I've been to have a play with myself... (reminds me a bit of my crazy SMC barbeque!)
Agree with Jack that the conveyor belt looks a bit solid/metallic - if it is to fit the older, worn look of some of the other bits, I'd expect it to maybe be a bit thinner and sagging slightly too! Oneof the beads coming off the end looks like it is still on the belt surface?
Love the glass jar behind the right-hand end of the belt.
Agree that the background image looks a little off - not sure the perspective feels right?
Great to see a bigger scene from you too - you've done some great individual items for the SMCs so it's cool to see a whole scene. I can so relate to struggling pcs though... |

This is wonderful. Apart from the window and outer image issues the only suggestion I'd make would be to tone down the beads a tiny bit. The contrast they provide is superb and a brilliant focus point but I think they're slightly too vibrant.
Congrats on a great image. |

Rather than tone them down, I would add a bit of translusancy, or shininess to the beads to show them as shiny and new. ;) |

Thank you all for the kind words and constructive remarks, very helpful. I was not completely satisfied with the backgound myself, I am working on another one with more structure in the windows.
I removed the gloss from the belt, good point Jack.
The beads, mmm, there is a problem, I would love to give them a bit of translucency, but as it is now even a small format render takes many hours and often the whole things stops in the middle because of lack of memory. I am afraid translucency makes the render more complex.
I will have to ask Santa for a bigger computer. Here we celebrate Sinterklaas on december 5th. Same beard, different hat, because he is a bishop, and rides a white horse, so no reindeers. The presents look the same, only 3 weeks earlier :D.
Steinie, great avatar, you are exactly what Sinterklaas looks like lol!
Anyway, back to work. I hope I can show you my changes soon.

Thanks a lot, Madmouse, that is great compliment coming from you. I must admit there is little fancy UV mapping involved. That is something I want to dig in further. I like texturing and often carry a small digital camera and have a bizar collection (says my wife) of pictures with dirt, rust, cracks, stains etc :D.
I am sure you have a similar collection!

A little bit more reflection and slightly less saturated colors on the beads might solve the material problem for them. |

I really like this image, plenty going on and some nice details. I echo the other suggestions about textures and materials too. Add a bit of volumetric lighting for that dusty, steamy workshop and this is a winner...:D |
