Well it really has been a very long time since ive submitted any work lol, University work has taken over my life. I have still be observing the forums and have found some very inspirational and impressive work being done here. Anyway I managed to find some time today to do a little work for myself.

Not sure how I feel about this image really lol. I made this today in about 2 hours from photograph to final image. I decided i wanted to try and extend the tendril type things emitting from a plant I have just bought but making it look a little more bionic as though a computer has interfaced with it (thus the difference in material). It was hard to try and match the 3D with the 2D and I dont think ive achieved it properly but I intend on making more images trying to blend the 2 together. C&C welcomed!

Not knowing exactly what you wanted to achieve it's hard to make any suggestions. If you hadn't said anything I would have known that you'd not achieved your goal!

FWIW I think it actually works pretty well as it is. There's a slight mismatch between the 'grain' of the photo and the higher definition of the rendered components. This can be a tricky thing to get around but you may be able to use a 2d photo editor to grab a sample of coloured area from the photo and turn it into a tiling texture for your tendrils - this could also be tricky due the the UV aspect.

I don't know how you have lit the scene but you could also try using an IBL with your background image as the IBL reference.

On the other hand, I think it looks pretty darn good as it is.
