Well, I found an ancient thread on here about this but I thought I would revive this project as it was popular (and I have a soft spot for Doris!).
I need a new project to focus on while I build Buddy World and I am going to make DSD episodic as it is a format that lends itself naturally to the web (and it buys me time rather than having to write it all in one go).
So, here are a few images to be going on with. I am just working on Doris' Spaceship and shall post more later.
I may also divulge the story...or some of it...:D |

Doris rocks!
Bangs head up and down like a head banger, holds fist in the air chanting,
"doris! Doris! doris! Doris!" |

I like this a lot - it always makes me think of the trip to the surface in the first Alien. Something about the suit and the doors etc. Except here it is a granny heading off for the encounter with who knows what out there.
Looking forward to seeing how this progresses!

Yay! Fully excellent news! I'm getting a bit long in the tooth for head banging but I share James' enthusiasm none the less!
I find Doris to be an immensely appealing character - and the idea of someone so.... well.. normal, zooming around in the depths of space makes a delightful contrast to the more cliched image of strong, masculine Buzz Lightyear Astronaut types.
Given that everyone has a Granny somewhere or knows someone granny-like, gives Doris a universal appeal IMO. Can't wait to hear more of her story. |

"Doris had an unhealthy obsession with cleanliness. That is to say, it is perfectly healthy to be clean, just unhealthy to be so obsessed about it, and so it was that Doris' obsession was to be her undoing...."
So it begins...:D
I know this is the Buddy World spaceship 'rejigged'...but there is a link... |

Last one for tonight. There is no ageism in the future and Doris secures herself a job with the 'Oribital Alliance Police' (thinkaboutit!). Nice wheels...err, wings or whatever. |

I do remember that ad indeed. Came out very nice I thought. And I remember that police force vehicle, though only from one render - I had no idea it transformed! Very neat to see that!
Thanks!

Sorry if I have posted these before; I am trying to get into mood of this project again and it's always nice to share. After all, it's not just us old timers around here anymore...;)
Just making the elements while I get a story going. |

Does anyone know where this model is from? I certainly did not make it from scratch but have no idea where it came from. It is meant to be Doris' 'about town' vehicle and it has a similar 3 wheel/adaptable look to here police craft so I really want to use this adapted version but I don't want to infringe any copyright either. |

Hi Splinters. Luckily, I'm not suffering from Rayman's apparent headlong dive into geriatric disorder - only through the courtesy\curse of a photographic memory though. That's not to say that other body parts aren't declining rapidly left, right and centre. :( To answer your question, you more than likely attained the model from the cover CD of 3D World Magazine (issue No 9) and if so the model would have been provided by Image-hand C2. |

Breech Block, you are a star!!
Do you know if it is for commercial use/royalty free?
I am amazed you remembered.
Thanks again.
P.S I tried tin eye last night and over a dozen images returned no matches...which is strange as they are on my site, Caligari's and a few others... |

Mmmmm...that site seems to be 'no more'. I wonder where I stand using the model?
I will have to dig out issue 9 (I keep them at school...:o) and see what the terms of use were. I really like that car, with a bit of tweaking it would fit in perfectly with the futuristic look of the story and actually looks like I could have made it rather than buying it in....:) |

Tin eye is still in beta and i dont expect it to find that much yet !
But I think its worth a try and certainly is good to support the idea
because Google started out small too !
i guess in a couple of years its going to be as normal to use image search machines as it is to use normal ones......
On top of that we have Breech Block with his photographic memory !
We could put him into a box and sell him as Tin eye advanced:D hahaha !

ROFL: good one Rayman.
Sorry Splinters, as I recall, Image-hand C2 gave no statement regarding either private or comercial use of the models that were distributed via the 3D World CD and only stated that for a small registration fee you could acquire access to their entire collection. |

Is that a Ford logo...? Wouldn't it be better to make those guys pay for product placement? Besides the logo being property of Ford Motor Company... |

Alas Weevil, that is just about the only thing in Buddy World that I did not model. A few posts back I explained that I could not identify where I got it. It turns out the company that gave it away in 3D World are now defunct so I am going to take a gamble and use it. I modified quite a bit and it is perfect for my needs (especially as I have so much other stuff to do!).
It is rare to come across a model that is simply perfect for your needs and one that you have not seen used commercially before. I see it as a blessing.
As for the Ford logo...well, it will be removed, but you never know... |

Now that Buddy World is all set up, it is time to start developing new projects or, in the case of Doris, old ones...;)
I am thinking of making this one episodic so that there is no need to wait 6 months until I finish it. This is what I imagine the first scene will be...only with Doris at the table reading a newspaper. |
