This product rendering test was done using Lightworks with HDRI. :)

I was wondering the same thing too Johny, but afraid to ask. Stick your body part in here and it goes from a square to a circle...

There seems to be some exposed gaps between the ribs.

Nice model and render.

Nice render, but I think it still needs some work done to it.

Basically you just need to simplify, take a look at other product renderings, especially cars and see what they do.

Your image would be better with just a simple white floor plane with a small amount of reflectence and you could use a simple Area Light for more realstic lighting, or you can use the white box technique, in which you put the object inside of a white box, completely white, this will give it nice clean reflections, If you want some examples I can help you

Matski - I'd certinaly like to see some examples if you can share a few; this is the sort of thing I've asked for a couple of times but never actually seen - how to set up a scene for 'product' style lighting/composition (preferably with screen caps showing lighting set-up etc)... in fairness, I guess there might be something in the video tutorials but as I'm restricted on large downloads I've not been able to see them yet...

I agree the picture above would look better on a less distracting 'floor'...

For how to set up a scene, I would actually do a web search on how to set up such a scene for photography, and then duplicate that. Usually the reflectance of white cards and similar is used to get the shape of reflective surfaces. Diffuse lighting may be used, and area lights or arrays of lights could be used there, etc.

Sometimes copying how it's done in photography can be very useful :)

HTH!

Rayman produced some very useful nice hdr pictures that can be used to create studio lightning for products like this (what is it??). See:

Hi All,

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah.. i am aware of the typical product rendering studio setup. In fact it is an adaptation of a real product rendering setup.

The product is a modification of an old industrial design product. It is a small hand-held light.

regards

That's a nice render; lightworks still has much to offer by the looks of things.

sorry about the lateness of my reply, been so busy getting myself ready for my final year university project.

I have only been using VRay recently so it took me a while to get to grips with lightworks again heh.

This is what I came up with, its just using an Area light, which I think is better for product rendering than HDRI, I have a simple black reflective floor and black background.

Still, my favourite render engine in tS although I love Dribble and Vray. I guess it is where I learnt my style so I still very much depend on it...:D

Maybe it's just me but I've always thought LightWorks did nice 'warm' renders, where as Vray renders always seem 'cooler' somehow. I don't know if that even makes sense seeing that the 'temperature ' of a render has so much to do with the colour of the lights used.
