It's so nice to be able to put these things into context once in a while 'ain't it?

I'm really glad you decided to take your Vipers and put them into a scene - I half expected another of your hangar shots (:D;)) but this is cool. Only slight crit would be that your laser blasts in the top right could do with more Anti-aliasing? And maybe would be nice for them to glow/standout a bit more, perhaps a shade of post-process would help them stand out? But the composition and overall effect are very cool.

Edit - I'd also be interested in hearing a bit more about how you achieved your motion effects...

I know with Project Dogwaffle you can do a "zoom blur" I think you can also do that with GIMP. Can't check at the moment since I'm at school, but it looks like that's what he did with the focus slightly up and right of the center.

Am I right Weevil? Or did I miss the mark?

Weevil Nice Vipers. Howerver the "lasers" are more of a pulse than a beam, and if you are basing them off of the new BGS they have what sounds like conventional guns. Just though I would throw my 2 cents in.

I just zoomed blurred it down the perspective line in psp 9

Nez: Cheers...To be honset I didn't stop to think about anti-aliasing...I'll get a bettet render done up. But the reason I did a pulse was because I can't do FX like projectiles very, I always think they end up looking tacky...if anyone has any helpfull little tips wold be much appreciated

I found this little tutorial... I hope you dont mind... :D

This is the basic effect. You can make an aditional layer, make them darker, maybe change the width of the beam and the glow, and of course the color of the glow... I belive they should be red, and the Cylon's cian...

If you look on you tube there are a few tutorials that show different methods for producing a "light sabre" effect.

I saw one where the artist simply made a few copies of the base ray, assigned increasing amounts of gaussian blur to each of the copies and blended the layers to produce a really good effect.

The method is the same here, I didn't made copies of the base ray, becouse I didn't have the base ray, its not my image so I didn't have a layered file. The thing I did was to make a "copy" of the first beam, a verey rough copy, the second step was only to remove the blackness of the rough beam and to assign color.

The process can be repeated (a few times) as you say, I mentioned that some new layers (or copies can be done).

I know its not the best result, becouse I only wanted to show the basic technique. :)

How did I miss my own thread like this?

Very nice after effect Rafa, thats a neat little way of being able to do an effect like that. Though at the time I made that picture, postprocessing wasn't on my list of things I could do unfortunately. Sadly though, I lost that scene....

Might I suggest putting a slightly extended version of that little test in the tutorium section?
