Now this is a strange piece so beware :p. Anyways holloweenish in nature. Took 11 days from conception to this. Realtime render, bone animation, morphs and DX animated pixel shaders. Rendered to file and compiled using Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus. I have a HD version but can't load it here. Feedback most welcome, thanks.

Strange but brilliant.

I loved the feeling of depth in this

Animation. I hope you submit this to the Gallery for others to

enjoy year after year.

Can't say as that's been done before, but really well done

(though is that title sequence neccarsary? I feel it cheapens what comes next)

I want to like it... but there's a definite disconnect between the spooky, dramatic soundtrack and the Nerdfighter Happy Dance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxYNUu_2egM) going on there with Pumpkinhead.
He's dressed pretty nice for a scarecrow too.

I like the tree/scenery/atmosphere a lot.

Thanks all for the comments, good and bad, actually they are all good from my viewpoint. I do like the HD version better, but no way can I post here, it, in my opinion, is more dramatic.

What I am most happy about is animation system, bones, morphs and DX shaders in tS. They do indeed work. DX shader used for rain and fire inside the pumpkin head was tSpecial-E. The background Panoviewer was also used for the background, a second image was used to adjust colors to better match the background to the foreground. The hardest part, which still has problems with the animation was the spotlight I used inside the head, that was extremely hard to animate and keyframe and spent more time there then anything else.

I've learned alot and hope to apply that to my next project using tS animation ability. This was more a test and something to build upon I hope.

Thanks all!

I'd vote for a change in music too - the animation is light-hearted in style, while the music is sinister. Perhaps starting sinister, only to swap suddenly when he breaks out into his dance, would work well.

I too think I would skip the intro title sequence and just go straight on to the pumpkin man himself, star of the show!

HTH!

Good feedback Tom, folks keep it coming. Maybe I will do a new draft :). I was pondering of just fading into scene plus a number of other items. Time and season dictated otherwise leaving out other elements.

Now my personal goal is a perfect minute ;). What I mean is production quality for 1 min, short scene length. From story telling, camera movement, music, acting of characters to final video quality. Thought is, if one can make a perfect minute one can make a movie :D. So as you can see, I believe I have a long ways to go. The positive comments are encouraging and the helping comments are encouraging and hopefully will get me faster to my goal. Thanks all.

I like it.

The animated title was fine with me. I didn't care for the visible rectangle parts of the title. I would have just had the letters spiral and fade. Pumpkin man's action's seem pointless before he walks to the dance area and dances. Minor stuff though.

I tried to make a Christmas movie with TS last year only to be very disappointed. Animation of a bendable organic character was not in fact possible with TS 5/6. I'll mercifully omit a link to the Elf Animation thread of well deserved viciousness.

So ... I'm interested in the methods you used to do this. Using other tools is ok. I'm just hoping that a 100% TS character animation is now possible. What was done in TS and what wasn't? Did you model the character in TS? Did you make his bones in TS? Are his movements BVH or "hand made" IK?

I want to see an organic, flexible skinned, character (for example the famous insurance gecko) and bones made and animated from scratch 100% in TS. No BVH ... hand made IK done in TS. Is pumpkin man such an animation? Does anyone know of one?

Thanks for comments Finis and questions. Alot was done in tS but also alot was imported. On the imported side it is all bvh exported from DAZ studio using Animate but put together inside of tS with morphs being done inside of tS. The Character and tree is also from DAZ. The background image is from Sachform Technology and is a Pano HDRI which I toned mapped for this. The uneven ground required me to control character so custom keyframes to control character by use of cube with matrix exported to Pumpkin Man I did. The Rain and fire DX shader was done by me and is available in 7.6 called tSpecial-E. The background tool was also done by myself which is available in the Garage. Shader for tree and ground is by myself and parva. So a composite of many elements, talents including music and sound effects. Music and models and sound effects cost a licensing fee to use but was worth it for me.

I hear you for 100% made character, morphs, textures, animation inside of tS. I actually have one myself in development but nothing complicated. For me to create everything from scratch is prohibitive and I won't get from here to there, a perfect minute so to speak. Then again maybe it won't be perfect unless I do ;).

My next step, actually probably a number of steps away is to combine bvh and custom made motions together. In other words use bvh but fine tuned using custom motions to get the right animated motion. tS allows this and is incredibily easy by using blends between tracks. This allows incredible freedom in making something move, emote and work together. For pumpkin man the morph tracks are separate from the bvh tracks so adding new expressions and what not is just plain easy.

I've started my next project which is another animation and I hope this is a stepping stone for something better.

Thanks, yeah his extra activity caused him to flame up too much :D. I need to make my next animation which should be a certain train made by Kena with moving clouds, water, water fall, moving grass and of course a train. Well one can hope that is.
