Wort,

...made this in about an hour. Mainly made it as hard surface modeling practice.

Crits welcome if someone has em. Mesh scene included for those who could use it or better yet add to it. :)

Antennae sound cool. DIdn't think of that. I mainly focused on the surface itself, being inspired by Crysis Warhead and Halo War's UNSC vehicle wireframes.

The cushion itself was easy to make using normal sweep...at least the front was...the back seemed to have a mind of its own.

Working on a Scout and IFV version, will post later today...tS crashed and it's too late to go back and re-do the last 15 min...

Cool; does the turret come seperate, so you can rotate it?

I made them as seperate objects, yes...the rockets are seperate as well...the .RsObj file included doesn't have it that way though, due to the file size...25 MB for Hovercraft.RsScn? Why I do not know...but here be the objects themselves...:)

Enjoy...I'm now looking for something else to make...perhaps a gunship or mobile artillery.

I made this beauty with flexibility in mind, and thus it has many many more parts than I usually make. The wings, turrets, VTOL rotors and rotor housing, and even the missiles underneath are all seperate objects that can be swapped for other components and designs, allowing a chassis to be refit as a Troop Transport, Heavy Gunship, Cargo Carrier, or Spec Ops Dropship in almost no time at all.

Made in the time that has transpired between my last post and this one, a few delays in between, so that'd be 1 hour and 30 minutes...:)

Also looking great! This is content that would also be nice to see on TurboSquid, as I know this kind of model is very popular. Free or for sale it would be great for all tS users to be able to find it easily.

But even shared on the forums here is great too! Looking forward to seeing more - are there plans to texture and render the model too? It would make for some fantastic scenes :)

I'll have to try texturing I suppose. Haven't done it in a long time...and I'm not very good at UVs, but I'll try.

Hmmmm...TurboSquid...would if I could...:)

Maybe someone could host them at TurboSquid for you, the free ones at least? Would be a good way to make a name for yourself! Tags and description could include you as artist for instance.

I'll consider doing that myself (under my own TurboSquid account, which is unrelated to Caligari), but maybe someone else from the community would like to offer that first and a couple of community users could then get the benefit of that joint / cross promotion.

The free ones could be, sure. I'm thinking about making a weapons and attachments pack...

Right now, I'm making something that is a bit too detailed to be considered "free"...

Yes, hosting free ones would be fine - commercial ones would be tricky due to taxes, and figuring up exactly how much money is owed. You could always sell ones separately via several means (eg I use Regsoft), but then it becomes much harder for people to find your content compared to it being hosted in a large, pro warehouse like TurboSquid.

But for now the free ones might help establish your name, and prove a case that there is something viable there that makes it wortwhile setting up on TurboSquid.

I'm off to the UK tomorrow, back here next Tue, if no-one has offered you a TurboSquid location for your free models by then, then if you like I can host them under TMG CG Art, but making clear that they aren't mine of course :)

HTH!

Tom

EDIT - PS I'd rather someone else host them as I think these could grab a lot of attention, and I think it might be useful if someone else who was also working in games, or looking to sell their models and get started on TurboSquid, worked with you and you could both then benefit from that. I think it might be a nice way of getting promotion for a couple of people at once, and I figure there are some who will be doing more than I do on TurboSquid right now, so could better benefit from that.

Yes, time to go and visit my family, not seen them since coming over here to the US, this is my first trip back to my old home since then. Should be fun, if a somewhat short visit :)

Behold the "thing" I mentioned earlier:

Note the head is currently a WIP...the one in this image is a placeholder...

One other thing, all the main joints are axis tuned to pivot accurately...took a bit of extra work, but was worth it.:)

That's quite a thing, indeed. I hope I never have to call the exterminator to tackle an infestation of those....

I think even one would be enough...its quite large...meant to be used as a forward assault droid.

The tendrils at the top are Optical Sensors...very flexible Optical sensors...

K. I'm gonna remake the head and forward arms today. Probably will do some tweaking of the upper torso too...to make it more of a war machine...

Wort,

The Gunship is currently my favorite. Having entered a sort of "customized" mindset...I'm considering doing the Sensors attachment today, when I find time.

@The Master Elite - Man this robot is awesome!!!!! I love robots. How did you get the skill to modeling it? My problem is to build things with so many details as your model. Will you do an animation with it?

Skill? I don't have much as far as skill...mainly I've only had practice in the Ts 7.51 Trial for about 3 months and now with 7.6.

Mainly, I did all these as a hard surface study on my own. The robot is made of many parts, and the joints, like I said earlier, already have their axies modified to make them hinge accurately...

One thing I can't stress enough though is music. I have a broken earphone set from the dollar store...for a few bucks, its done me well...I don't listen to much in terms of music, but for the hovercraft I had the newest Halo Wars trailer playing over and over again in the background, video and all. For the Gunship I had Crysis Warhead's Hovercraft Pursuit [awesome...one of the few things I can stand with an electric guitar, I just can't take Rock or anything of today's music generally ], but with this mech, I had the "Tenuous Pact" and "Betrayer & the Sun King" samples from this site playing in repitition, occassionally adding the En Taro Adun segment for variety:

This is the Pyralis Dropship, a massive and heavily armored quick insertion craft used for both orbital/space and ground operations.

While it possesses no armament, its powerful thrusters and extendable cargo bay make it a powerful addition to any arsenal, so long as there are munitions to ferry.

2.5k Faces.

EDIT: Added a .RsScn for you all...8)

Wort.

Just added a bunch of extra GUnship accessories including new missiles and a new weapon:

MISSILES:

Viper: The Viper is the standard issue Assault Missile, used for everything from Anit-Air combat to Ground bombardment. It has a moderate payload, and while this is not quite enough to punch through heavy armor, its superior speed allows it to travel from the launcher to its target quicker than any other missile in any arsenal. Useful most against other aircraft; light or medium vehicles.

Arbalest: The Arbalest is a deadly heavy air-to-ground missile used primarily against heavy armor carried by Minotaur-class Hovertanks and strong enemy fortifications.

Arbalest EMP: Used primarily for munitions and equipment sabotage, the Arbalest 2A EMP is a powerful weapon that can be used for anything involving electronic warfare including shield disarmament.

Hammer: A powerful and destructive area-of-effect weapon, used for urban bombardment and base storming. Can be loaded with Incinerator Plasma or Napalm discharge packs for added effectiveness.

Streaker: In short, this is the most advanced cluster missile available. Multiple attached mini-missiles can be used for long range air to air combat as well as for land assaults. Very difficult to defeat with countermeasures due to the multiple missiles each having their own sensor array that works with the others, combining to confirm the target.

As per Iceman's Missile tutorial, I am going to remake the missile selection for extra realism. Upon scanning some reference material I realized these missiles are a bit too short and fat!
