Hi everyone! I've decided to start a thread to post the 3D images that I've made since I got my tS 6.6 copy back in the 2005 'till now. Its interesting that the tS really got into me from the moment i started to study 3D for my International Baccalaureate (IB) art exposition (in the 2005, it became along with the origami the main focus of my presentation... eventhought I already knew tS from the version 3.1  ). Hope you like them ^_^. Any critts and coments are greatly wellcomed :jumpy:

I'll start with the ARACHNES collection. It is intended to represent a fusion between a flower and a spider, giving it at the same time the sensation of a cloth-like movement. No post-processing (excepting for the letters), the image is desired to be very sober and clean. As if the spider was snapshot while it was rapidly-moving :jumpy:

Here are another two of my favorites :) The sierpinski triangle taken to 3D, in the second one (Usiel) I used as a background/floor image an artwork (which served as my inspiration for this) from the dutch graphic artist MC Escher, entitled "Angels and Devils", which is somehow an approximation to a fractal ('thought Escher made it without knowing what the fractals are :) )

Here is another one showing how the sierpinski was made, from 2D to 3D and then increasing the iterations.

And another one that also recieved a Honorable mention in April 2006. Its a step by step image showing how to translate an M.C. Escher's artwork (entitled "Shells and Starfish") into a triangular tessellation that can be used to make a Kaleidocycle. :jumpy: |

Very nice pics Erpax. The Escher influence in your pics is refreshing to see on here. |

Thanks Dragneye :) Escher had a very important influence for me, his arworks inspired most of my pieces in the 2005-2006 (And he still does sometimes ^_^... im incursionating into fractals and they are greatly related to Escher's tessellations and infinite figures).
---o---
The following two pieces (the third image is a detail from the second one) are proposals for two different modular sculptures (One modulus is repeated several times to create a sculpture). The first one is more veridic than the second one (It CAN be built in a park or sculptural area). The second one is a little more fictional (On purpose) since the central spheres are floating :p and it won a honorable mention in August/2006. :jumpy: |

Thanks Mr 3D ^_^
Here are two other pics of interest.
In a previous post I showed that Escher's "Shells and Starfish" could be used as a triangular tessellation to create a Kaleidocycle.
In these ones I also used "Shells and Starfish", but with a pentagonal tessellation pattern to show how a dodecaedrum can be perfectly textured using this piece. Then, in the second one the dodecaedrum can be spherized and, voila! you've got Escher in a Sphere :D.
The third one is a study of reflections on spheres over Escher's impossible waterfall. [ I wish I had GI and caustics back then  ] |

I have a set of these paper Kaleidocycles (http://www.amazon.com/M-C-Escher-%C2%AE-Kaleidocycles/dp/0876542089).
Very cool to see them in 3D. |
