OK - here is the one I figured I would do for July.
Take a rounded cube
13021
Add some loops
13023
Line up 32 of them
13022
Bend them into a circle
13024
and I now have lintels. |

Obviously, I got started on this, then had to go back to get my thread started.
Here I have the uprights put in and a flat plane so I can see how it may look on the ground.

last update today.
Took one of the Lithons (uprights), shrunk it down - made it even thinner and have added some edge loops. This will allow me to deform it tomorrow when I work on this some more.

And this will be my last update for a bit. ;)
I've gotten the 5 central Trilithons created and ready to add to the scene

Glad to see someone trying Stonehenge - should make for some cool renders. I was put off choosing this one due to the moderately irregular shape of the stones which I figured would be a head-ache so interested to see how you deal with this - or whether you're going for an 'as-new' (i.e. back-in-time) appearance...
The 5 central trilothons look about right in terms of proportions but I'm not so sure on the others without being able to check a picture at the mo - there looks to me to be too many uprights and they look skinny - but that's based only on memory... I'm assuming you've actually checked that, so I'm probably just mis-remembering...
Keep it up - sure you'll have an interesting result in the end... |

heh.. not too many places to see what it was intended to look like, but yes - there is about 5 feet between the uprights and the first set of the Trilithons is the same height of the outside ring with the second set about the thickness fo the lintels higher, and the last one that much higher again. I'm going to texture them quite a bit newer than they are in real life, and probably as they would appear somewhere else.

small update.
I'm pretty sure that I've gotten everything on the inside now. I will keep building on it until I get back home from vacation. Then I may start on textures. This Laptop only has 7.5, not 7.51

I went to Stonehenge about 30 years ago - from what I recall there were a lot more Japanese tourists standing about;)
Looking good Kena - are you going to use this in workspace? You could use normal maps to rough up the stones a little. |

heh - no nude poses here. I will be lucky if I can even get characters in at all. The definitely will not be human if I do. ;)
and yes, I put the sun at the solstice for that last one, just to make sure that it would line up the way I want. I still have a ditch or two to make and then the artistic license will really start.

Thanks... That tutorial on the fish that Jack is doing has helped me a lot with point-editing..
Here is the alley started - got the one end set right, and now just have to do the other end.

High Praise! thanks.
Here it is... all setup and everything, just not "dressed".
Now I have to worry about the hardest part of 3D that I know....
Texturing.

Great work Kena, this model is already looking pretty terrific as it is. My parents took me to see Stonehenge when I was a kid. It was a great day out running around all those stones (this was before it was all roped off). I can still remember wondering about how it must have all looked back its heyday. With your model, it looks like I'm gonna find out at long last. |

I saw Stonehenge... wow, almost 20 years ago. It looked pretty darn cool. Your 3D model reminds me of the pamplets and diagrams at the site depicting how it used to look. |

welllll.... my textures will be a definite turn from the original. I've always found the stone that it came from to be a bit boring when new. Since the foreign stone is bluestone, I thought I would make a blue stone texture for it. I haven't decided on the Trilithons and the outer ring, but maybe a marble or colored sandstone... or even something with shells in it. |
