Back in my hay day of freeness I started a project of one of my favourite songs into a video. now it has been about four years and I cannot accept the work from my past because it was hard enough as it was to accept my previous work as complete.
Here is a screen shot of where about 20% of the video will take place.
There are some places in the video that I will reuse, but only because the rendering bugs have been fixed since then and I need to find a better work around for the "bad" video effects.
Here is the screen shot, it is dark and I know it is cheep to result to darkness for good visuals but I did work on the small scene in full light before I reduced it to the required darkness for the effect I wanted. |

Hello, here is a slightly lightened up slightly bigger image to look at.
The door I think needs a lot of work as well as the ceiling.
The song is 46 & 2 by Tool. |

Alright, I spent some time doing some better texture work.
I redid the walls and floor. I will rework the door to make it something much less plain looking.

I am ok with the room for now.
I have to do a few other rooms and the outside on an island, but for the first scenes all I need are the two characters in the animation.
I have the original ones I made for the first attempt at this animation but they need to be redone, I am posting an image of there current versions and will update as I rework them. |

Not bad Davin. Umm, is it my computer or is the pic too dark to even see the textures? People? |

hehe - it's your computer. The picture IS dark, but not that dark. Although, I cannot see it when I look at it from my pc at work... But then they have crapy monitors even after calibration. |

Jack: I am making an animation, I used to just do them to music but this time I am not sure if the music will be the fore front or not. There is no dialog for the characters and I think that dialog will change the feeling of the story (mostly because I will be the one doing the voice acting). The premise of the story is the main character (the grey and orange guy) is unhappy being confined in his little cell constantly being tortured by the other guy (the red demon guy), so he finally makes it out only find that he is in the same situation but in a different room.
Dragoneye: The place is meant to be dark, only illuminated by the florescent light under the mirror. This is a much brighter image to show my texture work.
I had taken a long break from 3D due to working too much for almost 3 years but after messing around with my old scenes/objects and realizing that I can do much better; I just had to go in and meddle with my old work. So I am doing much better now, but I am trying to take a fresh look on how I do things starting over from scratch (at least on the 3D work) on almost everything. I never finished this one so I really want to complete this, but since my mind wanders, it will take me a while because I will be working on other things. I might even try this months MMC, if I could come up with an idea that really sticks with me.
The red demon guy is currently in old game poly rez of less than 1500 polies and using a 2048 texture, so for this I need to up the detail and poly count for the close ups. I plan on only rendering this at 640x480 so there doesn't need to be too much detail for most of the shots so I may just use the low poly models for a lot of the scenes but as you can see in the second shot, I really need to make a detailed character.
So please do not hold anything back on your criticisms, I really need the insight. |

Couple of things I'm noticing is that the reflectance seems to be constant even though you've layered materials. Varying the reflectance to match the material with help with it's realism.
For example the worn paint stripes on the conduit in the corner, the paint should have less reflectance than the bare metal.
Also the blood splatter on the wall would be different reflectance than the wall. Same with the rusty or dirty areas.
The head on the character looks fine. I think I see some areas on the neck and underarm where the UVs could be laid out a bit better. The body probably could use with a bit more definition. The bump map on him is too strong and makes him look like wrinkled plastic. Better would be to have the red stripes actually follow muscle groupings and to use the bump map to create the bulges for the sixpack of abdominal muscles, etc.
Hope that helps! :) |

Yes, a lil better; thank you. I tend to keep my screen's brightness low (hoping it'll last a bit longer) so I'm sure that had something to do with it. |

Ok, a little bit of an update.
This is not much but if you have the time check out this animation.
http://utify.com/CarrionJumpingThroughMirror002.avi
I corrected some of the texturing of the room as well as some of the textures on the carrion man, not that you can tell from this small animation.
I just made some cheesy animation. I will make sure there is no sliding in the final.
This will eventually be the protagonist and not the opponent of the story jumping through the mirror.
Any way, since tS7.6 was released for free I have been spending some time learning the interface since I have been too broke to afford tS7. |
