It seems as though the califorum doesn't like music...

I figured I'd post this for critique, but I'm not sure if it's welcome. :(

Just started work on this song this morning. It's coming along quite well too. Not sure what I should do with it from here. Also, I just wanted to share it for some feedback. hope you like it!

It's not that it's not welcome 2much4U... More like there are so few of us people here who could actually give you a valid critique on music work.

Even though Music can make or break an animation.

I think it would be fair to say that there are plenty of people here who are into music, evenquite seriously - you only have to look at the 'show us your rooms' thread tosee the proliferation of musical gear. But this is a 3d forum, which is what most of us come here to discuss. If you want people to review songs, it might be better if you set up a blog instead (which you can do via the forums) but have to realise you may get no better a response there - I don't know how many people are active inthe blogs section becuase I'm not...

On another related point - not only can I not access the Newsground site due to internet access restrictions at work, I can't download large files anyway, and I'm sure there are other people who don't want or cannot do loarge downloads and therefore will not even attempt to review the songs. I've managed to download a few clips when you've actually attached them to a post rather than giving a link to another site, but only when the size was small. Whilst I'm interested in how you actually put your pieces together, the sound/style is not to my taste, so I can't offer any useful comments on composition or style. But good luck with the piece.

Can I echo the sentiment. I am a musician too and make my own music but I tend to go to music forums for better and more varied critique. Things are pretty slow around here just lately and I personally visit to see and share 3D and art. None of this is personal to you...just limited time which I want to spend on Caligari related stuff.

I do not dislike your stuff because I have never listened to it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the odd 'bump' to see if anyone missed the thread but I have seen some other threads that seem to get a little hostile (or at least take it personally) if there are no replies to a thread or suggestion.

I do take offence to that...if I walked down the high street I would be equally offended if a McDonalds employee was in the street shouting at me for not coming in to buy a burger...

Thankfully you have not adopted the same approach with your thread...:D

I try to be constructive with situations, even if it's a mess. here, check out this link (don't worry, I'm not asking you to listen to the music. Just read the thread.):

I also try to get the full story before I react poorly. It's just my method of problem solving.

Wow! I read the thread to the end.. you've sure got gumption :D

I think I'd put that forum down as one to give a miss though .. O_O

oh.. and I believe there is a music thread going in caligari forums .. it's sporadic.. just depends on folks' mood ^_^ ... please try a search if you haven't already discovered it... I don't remember where it is ..and I'm a bit distracted myself, lately :p

I'm a composer myself, whose style is laced with elements and influences from debussy, bartok and stravinsky and consequently don't expect people to enjoy my 'real' music... however, I can also compose items that are fairly pleasing.. and I do that once in a blue moon.. Lately, I am more into 3d modeling, digital painting and adventure game development. (this is all probably more than you really wanted to know) ^_^

2much4U -

Man.... I read the damn posts. These Sons of *4%8#@* hide behind the internet and spew their mother ^#(*^@ vile instead of saying Thank you for the effort. I REALLY wanted to join that forum just to tell them what I think... What - ever.

Look dude - Thanx for the efforts... don't feel bad that there aren't many comments about music threads on a 3D modeling/animation forum, and you keep up your good work. Personally, I like your music, but didn't have the energy to listen to what you have recently created cuz..... I'm really pissed right now at the lack of appreciation, and the wonton rudeness you have endured. I'll get to it, I will. You keep it comin'. Just understand where our main focus lies here, though like stated, artists tend to also LUV music :-D

yeah those guys on that forum sound like little brats. If they talked like that in person, well, they would have fewer teeth all of a sudden.

Anyways, I agree. Music is needed for animation, so some tutorials on the subject is a good thing.

later,

Froo

Hey that wasn't bad. Now as to where it can go from there, hmm, nothing comes to mind yet.

Dude! Major ups to you! If more people responded to pointless and childish ego-stroking hostility like you did there probably wouldn't be any pointless and childish ego-stroking hostility.

At the risk of verging on passive aggression I've got to wonder what those boys are compensating for?

I take my hat off to you for tolerance and perserverance - do you really care about the opinions of guys like that anyway?

Dude there is a thread, as Butterpaw said, here (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=63) in the Collaboration forum - it doesn't get a lot of action these days but you will probably find it's read by those tSer's who are into music.

Like many other tSer's who are also into music I tend to come here for conversation about 3d - thus music related to animations might be of interest (though I always make my own music) to other animators but possibly would not be of interest those who don't animate.

As a personal note from a fellow muso - I would be far more interested in hearing original works rather than reworks of other peoples stuff. You could draw a beautiful version of the Mona Lisa with marker pens but it's not an original vision as we've all seen the Mona Lisa before. This is the same reason why I never bothered to see the recent Johnny Depp remake of Willie Wonka - there was nothing wrong with the original.

This is also the main reason I'm generally not that impressed with a lot of Poser and DAZ studio art made of composed elements actually created by someone else.

Hope this helps:D

PS - I know you are looking for feedback about your recording work but I can safely say if it's anything like as skillful as your handling of those petty minds on the p2p forum it's gotta be pretty good coz you sure know how to promote harmony!!
