Here's a quick sample for a start. I used to be a pro musician before kids, truespace and a 'real' job got in the way;
http://www.woodwardp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/chase.wma
Remove the last part of that address to get to my site and hear a few more samples.
Nowadays I am more at home playing boogie woogie and rock piano or tinkling blues in a wine bar....;) |

WooHoo - Hypercool idea Mr B.
There seems to be a few musically inclined folks around here. I first got a computer specifically for Digital Sound Processing. I had a huge slew of songs I wanted to record (dispite the fact that I can't sing well). Then one day I found a copy of Terragen on a computer magazine cover disc - one render and I was hooked - addicted - 3D graphics was my new drug.
But after a while rendering empty landscapes with Terragen just wasn't quite enough... I needed something stronger, with a bigger 'hit' - that's when I first used tS 3.2....
But back to music - I don't play much these days but I've been playing guitars for 36 years and keyboards for 10 years.
I had a quick listen to Pauls sample - very slick compared to my stuff.
Sorry Mr B but I'm on dial-up and a 9 Mb mp3 would take too long to download - got anything a little shorter? I'd love to hear your stuff. I've got lots of mp3's of my own stuff but I have no website to post them on...:(
If nothing else you can count on me to be an avid supporter of this thread!!! |

OK! You can mark me down as highly impressed Mr Bones!!! It took about 25 minutes to download but it was well worth the effort!
Protools? I used to use Cubase but it no longer ran for me after I upgraded to WinXP. These days I'm too busy doing graphics to do any DSP stuff.
I see your mp3's have got a pretty high bitrate - you could easily compress this to half the current bitrate without loosing too much quality and this would make it a bit more net friendly.
I really enjoyed the song though - I like the brassy intro, gives it a Detroit feel (not that I'd really know - I live on the opposite side of the planet!! (although I did fly over Detroit one night about 19 years ago:o )).
Did you have any input into the original songwriting? If so then well done Sir! If not then well done to whoever did it that well :D
Has this been commercially released or marketed? If not it should be IMHO. I'ts way slicker than my stuff (I was hampered by trying to do everything by myself - songwriting, performing recording and engineering all at the same time :(
If it's cool with you I'd like to keep this on my harddrive and add it to my fav playlist - it would be nice to know who to credit for what - writing performing. Obviously full credit to you for the recording/mixing. Well done again! |

Thanks Wizard, Yes Protools. Ive used it for about a year now and have learned a lot. I think the bitrate on the mp3 was 128 kps. the one I sent Splinters was 320 kps.
I did all the music, I had no input on the lyrics, well maybee a little...;) There was a high degree of collaboration with the 4 other vocal artists. I cannot release to many more details right now. I will keep you posted and let you know more as I am able too.
Thanks again and Cheers |

Hi
Liking what I've heard from the samples posted here. If you fancy checking out my stuff you can find it in the audio section at my bands website www.the-sepia.co.uk
There's samples from the last album, the demos section with WIP's for the next album plus a remix section.
Not everyone's cup of tea but some of you might like it!
Gosh, what a multi-talented bunch us truespacers are! :)
Best wishes

I hope to start a music made by TrueSpace'rs thread here.
more soon.
Hey, great project. Great plan.
I've dabbled a little with music myself, but more importantly and recently been involved with Dj D'Artagnan, who just released his new CD, AEoN. Pun intended: it took a while.
One item will be played at the olympics evening parties in Turin over the next few weeks. The title is, fittingly, named "Today is the first day".
I'm experimenting with various tools for making clips that can be used in a video like music video. For example, I used Dogwaffle (2D paint & animation) to make the cover art of AEoN, and then some.
www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/ipod/#thefirstday (http://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/ipod/#thefirstday)
I like the variant below with the popcorn added that looks like a pool of rocks and dust, debris of unfinished planetary business. Yes, popcorn images. Easily loaded into a paint program's brush or animated brush and sprinkled at varying sizes, darkness levels, hues and orientations. www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/freebies/brushimages/trionix (http://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/freebies/brushimages/trionix)
I also have toyed with existing looping video clips such as of people in motion by Marlin Studios
www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/tuts/marlingstudios (http://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/tuts/marlingstudios)
or a short loop of a running skeletton done in Poser.
www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/poser
By-the-way I do resell version 5 - $79 normally but additional discount coupons are available just for the asking. Makes a great companion to TrueSpace and other tools. Heck, sometimes just for the model collection ;-)
I intend to do more on the video music side, with TrueSpace and Carrara and other tools too. Has anyone here checked the Music Visualizers like Moonster? www.thebest3d.com/moonster (http://www.thebest3d.com/moonster)
Music adds a tremendous additional dimension to the whole experience. Sound and noise in general does. Have you guys seen the Sector-13 stuff from Drew Clark at Reactor Interactive? (he does tutorials for GameSpace). The guy who writes the music is awesome. Great epic stuff.
There's nothing like adding a sound track to a clip to make it come to life. See for example the originalm, then then the postworked (Dogwaffle) animation, and finally the Quicktime with Sound
www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/art/animations/canyonflight (http://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/art/animations/canyonflight)
Imagine one of Drew's sector-13 fighter planes in there instead.... 'nuff said. |

Not a musician by any stretch of the imagination. I use Anvil Studio for composition and Vienna Studio for making sound fonts. I barely know the treble and bass clef, but muddle my way through.
What I do is get a basic beat or rhythm in my mind, then use Anvil studio to rip the pattern out. That program then puts the proper notes in the proper place. I really like the way I can create my own instruments through sound fonts and the versatility to make a no talent like myself to create music. :)
Finally got an Ogg converter that was half-way decent and it is equivalent to MP3. The MP3 original creator seems to want a piece of everyone's pie if you happen to sell something for profit. OGG is open GL, so no worries. Lot of newer music players will accept OGG as well. |

Did somebuddy say music?
Wow, ok, guess I need to pay attention a wee closer. Been doin
truspace for a little while now for the sake of 3d chat. I have a little world at www.outerworlds.com named Vibronic and it's been going through evolutionary changes because of my flaky ill-satisfied graphic appetite. Anywho, the whole point of Vibronic was suppose to be for promoting original music and sounds, coupled with a socio-pathic 3d environment. I happen to be based here in Nashville - yea, so whut? - not to be confusing, Vibronic is not suppose to be country music enveloped or filtered - it's just suppose to be sound-oriented. Well, I never did achieve that for whatever reason - I mean, I am still flubberflustering over me graphics and haven't even scratched the surface there with me tunes. Day jobs will moosh yur mind. pianodavy@aol.com - I am open to ideas - collaberations, suggestions, silly jokes etc. http://www.pianodavy.com/public/lendavy0007.jpg (http://www.pianodavy.com/public/pianodavysOWgroove.mp3) |

This thread went quiet...shame. I played a reunion gig last week and it rekindled my love of live playing. Just eyeing up some expensive Korg gear now (TR88, Triton LE 88 etc.). May well burn the old credit card and trade in my existing gear.
Anyone in UK interested in a Yamaha P-150 stage piano and Korg N364 workstation?... |
