Igor: ^_^ Thanks. The only problem with me playing each thing live is that I do not own all of the instruments involved. I can do a few, as I have a violin, clarinet, flute, trombone, piano, and trumpet (and can play them all...thank you PA state requirements for music educators)

W!ZARD: That sounds a bit more complex then I am able to do right now. The program I am using is Finale PrintMusic 2008, and it's supposed to have a more realistic sound, but I think it's limited to the sound card on my computer. One of the features of PrintMusic is that it's supposed to have 'human playback' controls, but I don't hear any difference when I use them.

I guess I should make one thing clear; I don't have a MIDI keyboard that this is hooked up too. ^^; This is all purely being done on my computer, no input from an instrument is being done.

When it comes to digital music, my expertise is limited. I'm more of a Theory/History person anyways (well, I was a performance major in school, vocal, but I play piano and violin as well)

mrbones: Sure thing

O.O Wow, that sounds great! The only thing is that the high bell is supposed to be the chimes, you know, like Tubular Bells (I don't know why, but it comes out that high on mine too) So it should be about two octaves lower then that and sound like 'church bells' instead. There's something wacky in my writing program, because the instrument is supposed to sound as written, but it plays it too high.

^_^ Thank you very much, I love it!

Not bad, ^_^ Not bad at all. The speaking at the beginning felt a little odd to me, with the doubled voice. Other then that, I like it.

I don't often get a chance to listen to many of the songs here (although I'd reallly like to) as I'm not supposed to download anything of any significant size but thought I'd try the compressed version of Mr Bones' Shmoos...

I can see now that I'm going to have to blag some bandwidth from somewhere to listen to everyone elses stuff as I'm now hooked on hearing all the great TS musos! Nice stuff Mr Bones. I can see why W!zard may not find it totally to his liking if he likes music with some 'space' - it's quite a 'busy' piece to my ear, quite a lot going on, possibly even too much, but it sounds like you had a lot of fun making it. There's some great effects and sounds in there, I'd certainly be interested to know a bit more about your process (is it all digital or are you recording parts off guitars and synths and then mixing them digitally, etc... are they totally self-written or the result of collaboration with a band or other musos, etc).

I can understand why others felt the drums might need something - worth a try with the reverb (though not too much methinks) but you could also try 'fattening' up the snare - sounds a bit like a piccolo (shallow) snare, could maybe do with being more like a nice big brass snare.... just may need a bit of playing around to see what fits the best.

I'd like to hear your other tracks (and everyone elses), but can't get away with an 8MB download... in such esteemed company, I'm glad I have nothing to upload!

Hi Nez,

Thanks for the comments,

The song (Shmoo) was totally self written and I played all the instruments.

The guitars are the only non synth parts. The rest including drums was sequenced via midi keyboard and synth plug ins.

It was a very fun song to do.

Cheers

Heres something a little more experimental,

Entitled "Sir Render,"

Incorporating a few Pink Floyd samples over a drumbeat I sequenced.
I also played the piano and bass performance.

comments or suggestions welcome.

Okay, I'll comment. :)

Don't Doubt Me & Be Rich; very nice, I like them.
Mr. President... Is that first sample from Big Trouble in Little China? any way, this was my second favorite of the four.

Sir Render. I liked this one the best. Being a big Pink Floyd fan probably biased me towards this one. :)

Weevil - I didn't listen to the cover but I did give the original toon a spin. There was some sweet stuff in here - your Bass drum was way too forward in the mix, specially on the more acoustic parts - I felt it needed either a very light bass drum or no bass at all. Later when it gets grungy and you dirty up the guitars the drums fit much better. You start using some odd intervals in the guitar lead which don't appeal to my anti-jazz preferences but will no doubt appeal to others.

All in all I'd say the weakest part was the actual mix - that bass drum was turn off. The best bit - some nice spacey guitar runs. Good work just need to polish the mixing.

Woah Mr Bones - this is uber cool stuff!! I'm a tough audience but this gets a big thumbs up from me!

Sir Render really didn't do much for me - I'm a Dave Gilmour purist and while I'm not anti-remixes as such I'm not sure that this treatment is warranted given the quality of the source material. Floyd music is all about big open soaring spaces in the sound and this remix sort of muddied that up for me.

Be Rich - While I thought the message - gimme money and lotsa chicks - was a bit lacking in substance (it doesn't matter how rich or good looking someone is there's always someone else somewhere whose sick of putting up with their BS ;) the music was hot! I really liked the instrumentation, seemed subtle but assured, not to much, not too busy. It sounded like it would work as an instrumental without any vox at all. The rap was good though - reminded me a lot of a local guy by the name of Scribe - smart lyrics and well recorded. Rap and hip hop by nature of the rapid-fire lyrics are notoriously difficult to record cleanly so this is a testament to the engineer as well as the vocalist.

This is a track I could listen to again and again (I'll have to it's now on my latest favourite playlist).

President - Yeah this cooks! I like the smart lyric, the speed the cynicism and again I thought the instrumentation and mixdown was top class. Very nice work on this - hell I'd vote for the man if I was eligible! This too is on my Fav playlist.

Don't Doubt Me - Well there's no doubting this woman has a sweet voice. I really, really liked this one - easily my favourite. Beautiful instrumentation again, exquisite melodies, nice restraint on the warbles and trills.... there's nothing bad I can say about this. Overall this style of music is not my cup of tea - but if other exponents of this genre did it this well it would soon become my cup of tea. Again the thing that really stands out for me is the precision - both in the instrumentation and the singing - added to a very tight mix this can easily stand up there against the product of any major studio IMO.

I'll be playing all these tracks for my mates here so you'll be getting airplay in the South Pacific! Top work Joe - mark me down as a fan.:D

Definitely banana worthy!!:banana::banana::banana:

Hi Wizard,

Thanks for the reviews and positive feedback.

Be Rich,

I created the instrumentation and recorded the vocal performances, mixed and mastered as well. The vocal track was trikky, I did delete all the breaths which lends to the precision of the final mix. This track was very fun to do and the results seemed worth the extra effort.

President,

Seems appropriate for the current state of affairs in the states. Thought we'd try for some innocent fun and parody. Glad you did not find it too offensive.

Again a lot of extra effort was put forth on this one. I played the guitar on this one as well.

Dont doubt me,

Again a stellar vocal performance by Liv Moore, Her little brother played acoustic guitar. I created the instrumental performance.

Again thanks for your feedback, wasnt sure if we were on the right track with any of this music. Now I know will have to keep up the same measure of effort if not more in the future.

Cheers

Weevil: Spac sounds cool, I like it. I agree that the drum is a little heavy in the W song, but otherwise, I like it.

mrbones: ^_^

Are there any paranoids in the audience tonight? XD You're making me paranoid just thinking like that! Sirrender was a bit calming, though I did think it felt a bit monotonous at the end. That's just personal preference though, I like my music to use more then tonic, dominant, and sub-dominant chords.

BeRich-nice. Rap isn't my thing, but I liked this one. Very well done, bravo!

President-Again, Rap really isn't my thing, but it's not bad.

^^ I know, I know, I'm just teasing.

Now for something entirely different. ^^; I'm going out on a limb, and I'm totally embarrassing myself, but I figured I should give everyone a taste of what I do. I doesn't count as 'my music', I didn't write it, but it is me singing.

Now be forewarned, this is just me sitting at my piano, trying to accompany myself and have good technique at the same time, and trying to get my digital voice recorder to work right.

You'll hear some crackling in my voice...>.> That's because I've been having some problems with allergies; I was told I probably need to have may adenoids/tonsils out since I loose my voice every time I get a cold, but without a job, without insurance, and with the risk of not being able to sing, I have opted to work with what I have and hope I can still get a job. >.> Damn tonsils....

Anyhoo, #1, from the musical "Aspects of Love" is the song "Love Changes Everything"
