Hi all,

Don't forget that tonight (Thursday October 4th) at 5pm PST it will be our Animators Live! special.

We've also just announced our TNL! League as a means of rewarding those who take part in out TNL! events. The animators giving their presentations tonight will be among the first to get their League points :)

We do need two people to take part in the Speed Modeling challenge, and tonight the challenge is to make a trophy in 15 minutes.

Read more on the League here:

We'll see you there!

welcome jenny! see ya there tonight.

More people might see if the event is posted in roundtable. I only found this because I was looking for it. I don't check every topic usually, but I always check roundtable.

Hey all,

We want to use the Collaboration forum here for all our live events, so that it becomes a "one stop shop" to find out about things happening in TNL! (and perhaps other live events).

So while there might be a time of acclimation while people get used to the idea, we really do want to keep our announcements for live spaces etc in here. Add it to your list of places to check :)

Also, I just use New Posts to see what has changed in the whole forum since I was last in here. I'd never be able to go through forum by forum. New Posts shows any new or changed threads in the forums since last visit, and of course you dont read them all, just jump to the ones whose thread names you know, thread names sound interesting ,etc.

That way I can keep up with the relevant news in any forum, without having to go through forum by forum.

So we hope to see more folks taking this Collaboration thread as the place for live events and similar! We will post in the roundtable to let folks know that live events and similar will be found in here so people know to look out for it :)

Thanks!

Tom

TNL League sounds interesting. With great prizes like that it is quite an incentive for people to participate. I don't suspect that we'll have any more trouble getting people to step up for the speed modeling contests. :)

Nice to meet you Jenny. The Caligari team is a great group of folks, I'm sure you'll fit right in around here. :)

Awesome event. I loved seeing the presentations and doing mine. And the speed modeling challenge was really cool. Look forward to the next one.

I really enjoyed it when I could be there.. sorry could not see the 'gallery screens' (they were black for me, and I seem to be the only one with the problem) but other stuff great ^_^

There was another time I went to visit a truePlace with my kid's Computer and found the screen blank as you describe. When you stated that last night I immediately logged in with their computer also to see if the same blank screen would show up. It was ok this time. Have you updated all your drivers?

They were black for everyone, you had to click the little camera in front of each screen which linked to each file elsewhere on the web. It was far from obvious and I only knew that because someone told me. Until then I din't even know there was a little camera in front of each one. A note on the screen saying "click me" with the screen itself being the hyperlink would have been more far more sensible I think.

Never mind. The vid wall might even still be there.

No the screens should have featured a pretty picture on them, with the camera in the corner.

What you should have seen is something like in the screengrab. Seems like some people did not get to see these images, which is odd (we'd appreciate if anyone who did NOT see the images on these panels get in touch via email so we can identify what system component or driver may be behind this).

It was a super event! My thanks to the presenters for sharing their videos and their advice and backgrounds. Exciting to hear about the works in progress too!

Thanks!

Tom

PS attaching another grab just for fun. Norm actually got a group shot of all of us in front of the stage, so we'll see that posted sometime too :)

I have to ask... how'd you do that?

If it's still up tonight I'll save the scene for analysis.

How do you do what frootee? :)

The panels are just texture mapped still images, nothing fancy there - the video doesnt play on the screen etc (it would take too much bandwidth), so the camera object itself just provides a link to a WMV on the web (the ability to jump back and forth between 2D and 3D is neat!).

So there is nothing fancy about it, which is why it is surprising it didnt show up for some people. Again anyone who didnt see the scene look like that should please get in touch (just mail me thomas@caligari.com to start with, though I will probably forward you on to tech support and developers, but just to get the ball rolling :) )

Thanks!

Tom

ah ok. that explains it. The camera had a link to a wmv. That's all. Simple! Just like what 3dv had done. Ok. Thanks!

I hope it's still up tonight, so I can try again and see if maybe it will work after all...

I can explain why some people will have seen a black screen , its because the images on the panel were using a pixel shader that allows for a constant texture, so that the lighting in the room didnt affect the textures and make them too bright for full pixel shader 2 support.

yes the cameras (thanks for the mesh Prodigy) just have a hyper link , same as the ones in the 3D galleries and the promotional banner in the main 3D forum truePlace.

if you download one of the frames and look inside it , you can drag the texture from the workspace materials and textures libraries, use the one with the Caligari on it, then you can link the bitmap into the material and relink the material to the image frame material item , and disconnect the constant shader.

then youll be able to see the image in the frame.

heres one I changed for reference.

Or possibly because I drop to DX7 with textures as it's the only way it runs smoothly for me. If it's Pixel Shader 2 specific I'm guessing that any of us running lower than "flat out full tilt red hot maximum pace" wouldn't see them regardless.

Thanks for doing this Paul. I saw them ok myself but having folks understand how to utilize these scene components offline is very helpful in familiarizing everyone with the Link Editor and it's capabilities.

I have one semi-related question for you about this particular portal scene used that night at tp1111...

Where exactly are the 3D Camera Mesh Objects (created by Augusto and very cool by the way) located in the Link Editor?

I looked for them already for quite some time and haven't found them. Are they at a higher level than the scene itself online?

Check in the PictureFrame/Start object.

Thanks Steve!

It was right where you said it was! Just below the "NextTimeLookHarder" object!:D

I like the scripting style on this one, now I just have to script my white cane a little better.:p
