Hi Folks. We are meeting for scripting / LE fun again Tuesday. Here's the info. Bring your questions and your Show-And-Tell! I'll try to bring my Haunted House so we can all run around in it. You'll have to download the sound effects, which can be found here, along with the scene file if you want to run around on your own PC in FPN.

A lot of these items were donated by the Community. Many thanks to everyone for that! Also, feel free to harvest what you want from this scene, and items in this link if you want to make your own:

http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=4326

If you download this, and follow the instructions, you'll be good to go Tuesday night!

http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=4359

See you there!

Countdown Timer:

http://www.caligari.com/ScriptLive.asp

How to Connect:

*** If you've been there before (simple method) ***

Go to Meeting Room.

Then, click on Tom Hanks (where it says: Click Here To Go To Scriptorium)

******************************************

If you're new: (we will help just post here and we will help you!)

Since "how to get there" is something we all need to know, I've included the following links which provide greater detail on specifics in that regard:

(1) Getting a Password and Username to enter truePlaces:

(Our Tuesday Night Meeting is held inside a truePlace Portal (#1212) and you will need both a Password and Username to enter there which is different from your Caligari Customer Password and Username. Also be sure to get your truePlace Password and Username during Caligari business hours well before the meeting begins)

http://cart1.caligari.com/web/trueplaymainreg.aspx

(2) Instruction Page on Port Address Settings in trueSpace 7.5x:

(Note that the following instructions show you how to set the portal entry point in trueSpace to the truePlace Meetingroom (tpportal 1111) where once you arrive you will find an easel with an image on it which says "click here to enter the Scriptorium," and one you click on that image you will be instantly transported to the actual Script Developers Meeting held in tpportal 1212)

http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=43977&postcount=30

(3) truePlace "Scripting Live1" Page: (with countdown timer in PST):

(This is the Caligari Countdown Timer and Info Page for our Tuesday Meetings)

http://www.caligari.com/ScriptLive.asp

(4) The "connect to shared space" icon in truSpace7.5x:

The "connect to shared space" icon in trueSpace7.5x looks like two Avatars facing each other (ie: sharing space).

When you are all set and ready to connect you just need to click the appropriate icon in trueSpace and then enter your truePlaces Username and Password into the Dialog Box which will then pop up, then hit the "connect" button on the Dialog Box.

As Jane pointed out in the Saturday Animators thread, we could really use an Ambassador on Tuesday night, to help new folks understand what's going on, how to turn on voice, etc.

I will be showing the Haunted House, explaining the triggers, etc. so could someone volunteer to assist?

Also if you are new and want to come, can you please post here, so we know who you are? That will make it easier for the Ambassador(s) to assist.

Thanks!

This will be a great night all around.:)

I am preparing a scene tonight the likes of which you haven't seen in shared space before... I should have a couple of screenshots ready late this afternoon to place here...

...the entire portal will be underwater.:D

(Scriptors / Animators are encouraged to bring sealife with them.:))

As always, this "Script Developers Meeting Part 2" after Frootee's "Part 1" Segment will be open for folks to introduce their own scripted objects and animations or any interesting models they wish to share which are intended for eventual online deployment. Also bring your ideas and creativity to discuss new types of scenes and scene activities you may wish to develop together with us as well.

Tonight, if you have a scene wich you would like to have us all enjoy with you in shared space and the entire scene and textures combined are less than 5 meg uncompressed, zip it up and PM me here on it, I'll provide you my e-mail and have a look at it. If it meets shared space requirements perhaps we can all explore it together this week or next online.

Together we can help one another prepare great scenes for use online, and before you know it we'll all soon have an opportunity to do just that.:)

Excellent!:)

This one should be a lot of fun Steve. If you have any scene ideas you wish to discuss this would also be a great time to do so, especially during the Part 2 Segment when we all go for a trip to Davey Jones Locker.:D

See you there!

Oh, about the screenshots... I should have them here by mid-morning now, something came up which prevented me from doing that today.

Mark, here are those few jpg's I was going to show you. I was going to use a program called "Image Modeler" to model the servers and than import them into TS 7.51 and see how they look. The images below show how you can use this program to bring in digital photographs of 3d objects and reduce the polygon count for immersive worlds type designs. Plus I am not as good at modeling yet, like you guys....lol. I hope these are not too big to view.

Nice scala3d!

Image Modeler eh? I may have to get that.

I had to delete 4 items from the haunted house scene to get it below 5 MB. I will be showing it tonight and discussing the triggers especially.

Very Cool Stuff Steve!:D

Thanks for sharing it here!

I have a related treat for you right now that you are going to really enjoy!:D

A while back I started a thread in the Roundtable about Recreating real world scenes in shared space... methods, suggestions, related tools and links.:)

http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=3223 (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=3223)

You will find it to be an absolutely huge and excellent reference thread on a lot of this stuff along with user reviews and example tutorials. Rich Levy, who is absolutely great at this stuff really helped that thread become valuable to us all. So if you spot Rich in shared space be sure to let him know you have similar interests, he's a great guy with massive talent. (Hopefully he'll submit a few of his scenes to us for the Tuesday Night Script Developers Meeting Part 2 Segment so we can all walk around in them... they are magnificent.)

See you tonight!

Mark, thanks for sharing that link...lol. I could not find it the last time we talked...hehe. Rich Levy used those programs from "Realviz", that is who made the "Image Modeler" program that I use.....lol..smalll world.. Yes I will have to talk with Rich. Looking forward to tonight. I think I will be the only one without voice, so don't feel like to have to repeat all the voice conversations. That is too much work for you guys, I am cool with just watching and learning as much as I can.

take care!

I will be typing my presentation, since it's easier to make corrections that way, and, folks can capture the chat session and post to the forums, and read again, to catch something they may have missed in real time.

Just a friendly reminder folks... we're having the scriptor meeting tonight at 9 PM Eastern time. The info for the countdown timer, etc. is pointed to earlier in this thread.

We'll be running through a haunted house with special effects and sound effects, then we're going swimming in Mark's ocean (yes, seriously)

Lookin forward to seeing you there!

4 minutes to 10 I put out the trash and wine bottles from the Scriptorium. What a nice night it really was. Thanks everyone, it's a pleasure being there with all you folks every week, it just gets better every time and every time we have more fun than the week before.

I did manage to get a few screengrabs to pop in here and I heard that Frootee grabbed a few too which I'm counting on seeing here tomorrow.

We had a blast as always. Even Roman said he's starting to appreciate my unusual scene design style, which is always nice to hear.:)

Well we all managed to spend the night under the sea together in shared space for the very first time.... now I have to figure out how to top that one next week!:p

We may have a surprise or two in store for next week already brewing here too... a few folks are interested in creating their own scenes to load up there and one of them may be the start of an actual governmental multi-server prototype for the handling of massive quantities of visual data, so that may be a lot of fun to work on together and a very profitable thing as well for everyone involved.

Lots of potential in shared space development... don't wait too long to join us together here on the ground floor every week... we won't be there forever.;)

Here's some shots.... then Frootee has some more:

I gotta admit...

I am partial to that one haunted house pic in the last post... I really like how the light emanates from the house window onto the floor.

Hanging out in the underwater living quarters was a blast too. Really cool! Now we need to add some procedurally animated fish. Add some that come look at you when you approach the window, for instance. COOL!

Happy Halloween!

Yeah, it was really amazing how great all those animations and sound effects were, triggered as you approach the animated objects in realtime. and the Avatar Teleporter was a blast too as always... I've been Teleported with sound effects a hundred times at least in shared space and never get tired of that effect.... gives me a chance to finally fulfill all those old Star Trek fantasies I had as a kid I guess! LOL!:p

On the animated fish, jellyfish, sharks, schools of darting little fish, whales who rise slowly and wink at you through the window.... submarines that not only pass by but allow you to teleport to them and control them by joystick and manipulate objects with robot arms and floodlights... ALL of that is possible with trueSpace7.51 now, and with the easy to use scripting tools all these new users could join with us and start to make that happen now.

I hope they realize the only reason these things don't yet exist is because there are only so many of us with only so much time to devote and an absolutely unlimited number of ways to do truly amazing and unprecedented things together with scripting and shared space development. The more of us there are doing these things together, meeting and learning and even modeling together in shared space the better... we all grow and have fun every time.

And if you happen to be one of these new users here, or like I once was... a "lurker" who occasionally comes here for ideas and free stuff to download... remember that truePlay1.3 is completely FREE and anyone can use it to meet you and us online anytime in the FREE Portals which Caligari has placed online for us all to use every day around the clock from all over the world. Want to show your friends how cool it is to walk and talk together and learn and explore in 3d online multi-user worlds with full directional audio? They don't even have to be Caligari Customers do download truePlay1.3 and join you there today. So what are you waiting for? Dive right in... the water is just starting to get warm!:)

Yep.... it's all happening now, the fish are spawning as we speak.:D

Well Froo... we're about to do it again.... another Tuesday is soon upon us and we will be doing even more fun stuff this time too!

As always the Script Developers Meeting - Part 1 is all yours to describe and manage whenever you have all the Players in place and are ready to, and in the meantime I've decided to spill the beans here on what can be expected in "Part 2" of this upcoming Tuesday Night meeting.

Each week, as always, we try to out-do whatever we did the week before. This is becoming a tall order every week but I hope to accomplish it anyway, and if not, hey, we'll all have fun there together anyway as always!:)

Script Developers Meeting (Part 2) Tuesday November 6th

I've decided what I will be presenting as a new portal scene for us all to play in (and play with) next Tuesday night in "Part 2"....

...it will be two outer space colonies on different planets connected by teleporters.http://forums.caligari.com/tsdesign/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

They will look entirely different from each other, not just the structures but the outer environments of each, so this will be a genuine challenge and a lot of potential fun for us to add objects and scripts to at some point or right there and then. I will make sure there is enough poly budget to permit the addition of nice new goodies as we introduce them there too.

It will most likely be Monday afternoon before I have the scenes built and parted out to objects for portal introduction, so that will be when I'll be popping related screenshot teaser images into the Tuesday Night Script Developers Meeting threads here in the forums.

Should be fun as always, and as always... if you too have scenes you'd like to share which are under 5 meg total including materials - let me or Jason (Froo) know ahead of meetingtime and we'll plan the time and room there for you to share it live with us all, even that same night if possible.http://forums.caligari.com/tsdesign/images/smilies/smile.gif

Thanks!

Dang, I have my Son's soccer party tomorrow night, but I will be there...just a little late. I can't miss this one. I love Sci-Fi, I remember the old "Babylon 5" series when the pilot that was done for "Babylon 5" was rendered using a "Video Toaster" at the time I had on old "Amiga" where I had my first copy of TrueSpace, it was called just "Caligari"...wow 3D modeling and animation has come a long way....I am so hooked...lol. Does anybody have some spare "Talent" that I can borrow just for a little while....lol. I promise to give it back..hehe!!!!;)

See you guys there!!!!

No prob Scala3d.

These meetings last quite a long time anyways; when you do come there's no telling how it will have evolved over the course of the meeting! That's what is so cool about this Collaboration opportunity. It's really a brainstorming session for scripting and shared spaces.

BTW collaboration is great for texturing, animation, lighting, modelling, etc! So if anyone wants to start their own meetings with that in mind, go for it!

I took the weekend off for a much needed break from Everything. I will be getting the stuff for Part I together today, and will make an announcement in this thread about the stuff we'll be working on.

If you are new and have any questions please post here! The more the merrier!

Note: Since Caligari has created a clock web page, it will be easiest I think to refer to this page for meeting times.

The meeting will start at 6 PM Tuesday according to the Caligari clock on this page:

The Tuesday Night Script Developers Meeting in shared space is underway right now in truePlace portal number 1212, the Scriptorium.

Just find your way to the truePlace Meetingroom and click on the Scriptorium Link which is an Easel with a picture of Tom Hanks on it from the movie "Castaway."

See you there,

Wow.... what a truly great night.

First off, Norm gave us all an excellent walkthrough on his recent kiosk scripting breakthroughs and that was great. Frootee took charge of typing everything Norm was saying into the text chat window for those of us with various clientside audio system difficulties too and that was very helpful.

We did so many things there together tonight I can't even recall them all, the meeting went on for the usual 5 hours (6 if you count when Norm and I got there) before ending too and lots of ground was covered on many fronts.

Today I had hoped to bring in an awesome new portal scene which I had been attempting to build from scratch for tonight's meeting... but I hadn't really finished it properly in time, so rather than pop it in there tonight I opted to give it another week to really develop it well. I can tell you this much about it, it is one of the best scenes I have created for shared space yet and will be fun for us all to explore and share together in next Tuesday night.;)

Norm brought in a new version of his animated scripted gears which is so well meshed in motion it looks like the real thing under the most careful close-up examination. Working Gears like this will make lots of fun things possible in shared space very soon. As Scriptors every technique and method we each use finds applications well beyond our initial intended scope, and this example here will definitely be another one of those examples!

So since I didn't have a new scene to bring in tonight I brought in the very first scene we all shared together at the Tuesday Meetings, complete with the displaced and animated expanding and contracting starfield with the counter orbital animated planets and sun which are all vertex shaded and resemble thousands of tiny moving coloured lights.

Then Nightflight / ProfessorKhaos gave us all a very nice new treat... his superb scripted Shark which is animated in realtime so smoothly it actually gives you the creeps when you get too close to it!!!

Seeing is believing though, so here's a few screenshots for the non-believers... and if incredible new scripting advances like this don't get you excited about the current state of Shared Space development... check your pulse... ;)

Thanks everybody... as always great people and great times... see you all next week and remember your space suits next time.:D

Yes a most interesting evening with lots of great discussion and presenting of new ideas and creations.

we were shark=bait there for awhile. Very realistic looking and moving/animated shark for sure!

Mark created another great scape in the scriptorium and we all enjoyed exploring it.

Thanks to Jason for being the interpretor last night. Worked great.

Thanks Norm,

as always your participation in these Scriptor Meetings is deeply appreciated. The stuff we went over together last night before the meeting and during it was very informative. For most of us here Scripting is a new frontier, especially in trueSpace, so every time you share your approaches to scripting with us it sheds light not only on essential elements of the scripting itself but just as importantly it sheds light on your seasoned style of approaching new script methodology and pinpointed script testing techniques. These are very valuable to us all as we delve together into the uncharted waters of trueSpace and shared space script development.

Today (Wednesday) I have something to finish enhancing for The Boss, but maybe afterward you and I can take another stab together at the kiosk scripting in the Scriptorium today. I'll drop in there when I'm finished and look around for you there later.

Thanks, your presentations last night were great.:)
