trueSpace Mentor

To coincide with the release of the trueSpace Clinic (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=4382), where we and community members will help address users' problems face-to-face, we are also awarding a prize for the best trueSpace Mentor!

We want the community to vote on just who has been the best Mentor to them. Which community member is it that has helped you most, shown you the most or best tips, been there with works-in-progress to educate and inspire you?

Every community member can vote, but you can only vote one time, for one person! The winning trueSpace Mentor will receive trueSpace7.5 if they do not already own it, or a year of proTeam membership if they already own trueSpace7.5 (to be added to any existing proTeam membership they may already have).

Voting is open now, and runs until midnight PST on Wednesday November 14th. The winner will be announced during Thursday Night Live, to coincide with the first Caligari Clinic (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=4382)in our Thanksgiving special edition of TNL!

You can vote for any community member, so long as they are not one of us - you can of course vote for community members who are Ambassadors, beta testers, course authors, etc, just not Caligari staff members.

To vote, mail the name of the trueSpace Mentor you want to vote for to me at Jenny@caligari.com with subject of 'trueSpace Mentor'

Thanks, Jenny

Everybody is very helpful to one another and yes, it would be hard to vote for just one person. So please give careful consideration for who you think is our community's trueSpace Mentor. I have already received some emails for trueSpace Mentors, not only did they say who, they also said the reason for voting. :jumpy: It's really sweet!

This voting runs until midnight PST on Wednesday November 14th. The winner will be announced during Thursday Night Live! Please send your votes to me at jenny@caligari.com

Thanks, Jenny

Hi all,

After discussions with folks in Thursday Night Live! we are going to make it a little easier :)

Please choose your favorite three people to vote for. We do ask that you rank them in 1st, 2nd and 3rd so we can tally the votes appropriately, but by having three people you can choose, it should make it a little easier.

Naturally it will be hard to choose, and naturally you will have to leave people out who are very deserving - but we do ask that you vote. If you don't, after all, then it's less chance for your favorite mentor to win!

Thanks!

Tom

Here is my list of the "Dirty Dozen" I used to make my selection. I won't tell you who my top 3 were but you can't go wrong with any of them.

Parva, Deli, Splinters, Bobbins, Prodigy, Dele. Stan, SpaceKDet

trueBlue, WWitch, Wizard, Jack Edwards

Great list. Strangely I would have had a similar list but substituted Splinters for Steinie....;)

I would also add Hemulin but as I am effectively his 'mentor' at school it might complicate things if we exchanged roles. Madmouse is a great inspiration to me as well.

There are clearly other talented artists too but I guess your list, as mine would be, is based on contribution more than just talent...:D

Sounds more easier TOM, thanks..

I have just one question..

So we must focus in choose people who help in (technical) questions? or can we choose people Not so (technical) and yes (fun people)?

i considere this kind of persons very helpfuly for the community to make this place a fun place.. That's why i came all the days! :D

So the question is:

We need to choose for their technical answers? or we can choose for any other aspects??

Thanks!

From Tom:

You can vote for any community member, so long as they are not one of us - you can of course vote for community members who are Ambassadors, beta testers, course authors, etc, just not Caligari staff members.

I chose my three based on how they have inspired me, how helpful they are, how much they post useful things, share their ideas and creations etc. These are the characteristics of a mentor in my mind but you have to decide for yourself what makes a good 'mentor'...;)

Sorry Frootee I had to leave a lot of good people off the list. If I was into animation you would be one of the top picks.

In answer to Prodigy's question, it is as Paul pointed out - doesnt have to be with technical help, it can just be someone who shares WIP images (you can learn a lot from seeing how someone follows a project from start to finish, or how something starts off simple before developing into that final render that impresses you so much), or indeed just inspiration from their words and attitude.

Whatever you think has the biggest influence on helping you learn tS, whatever you think has encouraged you to pick up mouse or tablet and push the boundaries of what you can already do - up to you :)

You may share your votes if you like, or you may keep them private, again we leave that to you the users. I am sure everyone here undetstands that there are so many active and helpful folks, that every list or vote will have left off many people and will not feel slighted by that. And in truth there is a lot of "personality" involved in who you vote for - what inspires you most may be different from what inspires someone else, so the choice of trueSpace Mentor is a subjective thing, not an objective measure of how good someone is.

Good luck to all! This is the most amazing online community I know of, the one with the most positive communications and the least negative, quite an achievement in the internet age where many communities spend their time griping and sniping. So whoever comes out on top, thanks to each and every one of you for making it such a great community!

Happy to share my votes:

1. parva

2. madmouse

3. Prodigy (that was a tough one as I could name a few but prodigy continues to impress with the standard of work and enthusiasm).

I must point out that there are people on this forum that I rely on for help and good advice, such as Wizard, jack, dele etc. but the three above represent 'inspirational' mentor types for me.

It was hard to get down to three though...

Just want to thank you for sending your votes to me this morning, I got lots of emails flying in already. :) And those who have expressed concerns for my son's Halloween trauma (seeing a skeleton's head crack open with candies inside), I think he will recover soon, even though he is still afraid to look at his costume...:D

Hey thanks Prodigy! :D

Really hard to just pick 3 people.

Splinters and Madmouse have definitely been leading on the inspiration front.

Prodigy, Frootee, and 3Dvisualsdude have been putting in an increadible amount of time helping people and producing things, from images, to tutorials, and new scripts.

Dele made a bunch of really cool array type scripts, and the texture animator... Wigand and Stan also made important scripts.

Steinie did a great job running the MMC challenge last month. (Hey thanks for including me in your list :D.... whassup with last place though?! :p)

Simon (SiW) did dribble....

And there's gotta be a bunch of us I'm forgetting off the top of my head....

BOB!!!!....... after all we've meant to each other! I've given you the best years of my life and this is how you repay me;):D:D:D:D

Only just stumbled onto this thread... and I like it... its good to see Caligari rewarding the backbone of the forum.;)

The Votes from the British judge are...

Splinters.... For his constantly inspirational work.

Jack Edwards.... For his relentless ability to point out what I've done wrong ;):D

W!ZARD.... For always being able to find 100 words to describe my work (good or bad:D) and for making me wish I could be bothered to invest time in making complex scenes.

I could of easily picked another 10 (and you know who you are) but these guys just have the edge.

Ok, since you guys are willing to take the hit for mentioning only some of the great people who are making this a great community, as opposed to mentioning All the greats here, I will also give my shortened 'shout out'.
In my short time here I have been helped by many with their words and pics they have shared, whether I have replied in their threads or not.
THANK YOU :jumpy:

As for who I can think of without over-thinkin'/doin' it, is..

W!ZARD - Your visuals are like beautiful oils like i used to make. You create awesome 'atmoshere' in your work. Beautiful work. :)

Steinie - You have inspired me to try to 'lighten up', my art (well, some of it :)), and thoughts, as I go through my day. That's an immesurable gift you offer. I hope others take advantage of your vantage. ;)

Prodigy - you seem to always share a smile in your posts, and from listening/reading, and also from viewing your art, you are pretty dang good at this.
Back to the 'smile', you seem to have a great attitude, and that is also very inspiring :)

There's many more here, but I'll start with these. You all keep bein' exactly who you are and thanx again to all who share with other members their insights

As I'm a newbie, I went back to review my threads, and I was struck again at what an outstanding community gathers at this forum!

I've been receiving help in many forms from direct, concrete answers and explanations upon explanations particularly from JackEdwards , discussions of workflow and alternative options and other tips from W!ZARD, and friendly encouragement and artistic inspiration from splinters.

I also very much appreciate input from Emma, TheWickedWitchOfTheWeb, JimB, stan, trueBlue, dave_k, 3dfrog, opiejuan, frootee, spacekdet, Steinie, 3dvisuals Dude, MadMouse, jamesmc, Nez, rjeff, Dragneye, b_scotty, for their hints and tips, support, inspiration, friendly encouragement and humor! Prodigy I haven't forgotten you - love your models and you make me laugh a lot, and I like cars too.. been watching that thread ... well, there's a list well beyond a dozen, I'm afraid!

whew! That's just amazing!
many many thanks, and please keep helping!

now I'll go send that email,

^_^

Holy Cow I just realized this is happening this Thursday!

This is one meeting I don't want to miss that's for sure!

I wonder who will be the winner! In any event, I think we're all winners because we can post questions from beginner to the most complex here and get friendly answers.

I think there's still time to vote.... was it Wednesday midnight the deadline?

See you there!
