Having watched the Procedural Animation Video I was getting some ideas on making the interactivity of trueplay for product, education and entertainment.
My specific idea was in regards the current MMC project I'm working on (power supply.)
I was wondering if it is possible to make a graphical menu in trueplay like the ones below and interaction as seen in the video.
In other words, can procedural animation be tied to an image interface through scripting.
I set up a video (flash) to give an idea of what I would like to do.
I think it would open up a lot of possibilities with products and Web gateways to trueplay - if you catch my drift. |

Jamesmc, I think that is a great idea. I too am thinking along those same lines. I am wanting to create a virtual server room using TruePlay as a proof in concept. I think what you are proposing I could see the benefits with my idea. To be able to look at a server or walk up to a server and have a display show you what applications are running on that server and how much IO or disk space or memory is being utilized. I have done some 3D environmental modeling where I did a fly over animated movie of a model. I could also see the benefits of on-line collaboration i.e. (soil scientists from around the different state offices) all on-line, all looking at the same soil horizon model, all being able to move around independently of each other. If you wont mind let me know if you figure a way to do. I just wish I could have gotten TS 7.5 months ago, you all are light years ahead of me on this stuff. Thanks for a great community though.....

Yeah, that's possible. Good idea too. It wouldn't be as easy to set up as in flash though. You can also set nodes to "visible", so they pop up in truePlay as panels. That's probably the easiest route. Although tricky, it is possible to create a unique gui. TrueBlue did it pretty well once. ;)
I really wish there was a simple way to create scripted 2d interface buttons specifically for truePlay for things like this. |

Well, I thought at first about XAML. But then I found out tS in its current version only uses DirectX as a graphics engine for their interface, but provides no method to export or import X meshes.
This would be the idea solution as there are tons of mechanisms available out there to manage 3D to 2D. Idea for a Web Interface that is.
However, I will keep seeking a solution as I think this would be a powerful appealing aspect of trueSpace.
I might try the plug-in approach, but am unsure how that works on the Workspace side.
At least with a plug-in, I can control the interface appearance and function.
Still kicking it around, just hoping not to get a bruised foot. |

Hi James.
The plugin sdk is not yet available for the workspace side.
But still keep it in mind. You can also do this with scripting. Chances are, when the plugin sdk is available, the functions names and parameters will be the same. At least, that would make sense eh?
