This is well worth the visit. I hung around for a couple of hours myself. Lots to learn and do, things to talk about. Very informative and fun.

Thanks guys!

The animator's club meeting was quite nice. We had a pretty good turnout, and I'm hoping to see it grow in the future. I hope my walk cycle presentation was useful to some of you. I think we're gonna continue cycles a little more and hopefully people will find time to make projects to drop in and discuss. I will make the announcement of the topic much earlier in the future, I don't think I gave enough time for people to make projects.

I ended up staying in shared space for about 5 hours with a few breaks here and there. I was in shared space mode lol. We had a bunch of people coming in and out over that time, it was good to see people drop in. The animation part of the meeting was pretty much just the first hour the rest was fun time. Mark and paul kept us entertained with many fun things.

Attached is the movie of stickman walking in shared space again in marks scene for those that didnt see it in the other roundtable thread.

Hey Dennis

This is just an idea, I'm just feeling out how you might feel about this.

How do you feel about bringing the animation club into the regular forums also? We could do a book reading/walkthru during the week. People would be able to post questions/answers progress/failures as we read a chapter a week (or bi-weekly) of Animator's Survival Kit.

The Sat meeting could than be an extension of the weeks meeting. I know this is mostly all about character animation and I know you have stressed you wanted the Sat meetings to not be character specific... But with 5 hours to kill :D, we should be able to alot some time to character work :)

This would also leave a forum record for people to refer to down the road from now... It's your show and I do not want to step on your toes here, I would like to work along in this environment, I think many people might be interested also. Sound like a decent idea?

Yeah rich, that sounds great. It's kinda what I did on the roundtable thread. I don't think 2 days before the meeting was enough time though, I should have had a topic sorted out like a week in advance. In the other thread I announced the topic, gave a link to a web page about the topic and built a model for people to use to try their own walk cycle. I think if I posted earlier some people would have tried, my bad. I did give a presentation on walk cycles and had a question and answer, I think you got there after that though. But we did dedicate some time to it. Then it just evolved to wild scenes and fun. That's cool by me too. If we can get even an hour of animation stuff in we accomplished something I think.

I like the idea of using animators survival kit and other books as a source of discussion. This is a great opportunity to advance. I'm just hoping we can use bones in shared space in the future, that will really help. It will be much easier to cover animation principles if we can do bones animation.

I'm all for bringing this more into the forum.

Sorry if I am just rehashing what you had planned. I do book readings on other forums covering other subjects (mostly video and photoshop related things), they work fairly well and most importantly provide a nice reference for new users to go over. I will admit that it is hard to keep any number of people involved but that is the nature of online forums.

As for bones and Shared Space, I don't think it really matters. You guys showed me a bunch just by loading animations and objects that you played in SS. If people bring an animation of their character I am sure you could give them some great crits and encouragement.

Again, this is just me throwing out a couple of ideas.

Hi there. I for one think it's a great idea to create a topic Animation' in the forums. Presently I am working on animating a bird flying; I'm sure there are enough subject areas within 'Animation' to keep it goin'.
Also, it will highlight to us, and any passersby how useful tS is for this. I've been reading that tS 7+ is great for it (I hope you all don't mind an 'ole' 6.6 user chiming in). As for me, this is a new area, but it is exactly where I intend to end up using this program, so ... I'm in! ;)

PS: yes 3dfrog, more heads up time would have been great. I would have loved to give it a go with your stickman, since the work that's waiting in the wings for me, is exactly that; a walk cycle. BTW, nice walk cycle :)

Rich, your not rehashing my plans, I don't have much except pick topics, do projects, and discuss. All input is welcome and encouraged. Anything that will make the meeting better I am up for. I am hoping to keep these meetings kind of informal so we don't scare people away. So if someone doesn't want to work on a project for the topic planned we still make time to look at their own project and discuss it. It's cool if they don't even have a project and just would like to discuss something about animation after we give our presentations. I want it to be an open learning environment.

Yes, we can do a lot without bones. With the stickman I discovered there is a lot possible with just animating ordinary objects. Maybe that can be a presentation, setting up ordinary objects for animation. It would be a short presentation so I'll make it just a part of the next meeting. And we can always view movies of people's animations through web links to discuss. If someone doesn't have server space for their movie I can put it on mine for the meeting.

Yeah dragneye, I would love an animation topic on the forum, that would be so cool. It we be great if we could all develop as animators together. Do you not have 7.51? I could make a cob file of the stickman for you. I don't know if a 7.51 cob will work in 6.6 but we can try. We will do more cycles in the future, so there will be more opportunities.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Much appreciated.
