and I dont have the time to have a render cooking over night - 3000x 2000 px).........:D

I don't mind the yellow... but what are those large stone blocks doing hanging in space? Are they supposed to be space stations? If so, I would work on the texturing a bit. Other than that, I like the composition. |

I've heard of greebles/greebling (?) only recently - could you explain how you did it - were using TS or a different application? With a greeble plug-in or built in function?
Interesting image; I don't think it works well in the centre (narrow) section of the two structures, which look more like a 'white noise/static' type texture, although this may be down to scale and image resolution....
Also looks rather like the objects have been just superimposed on the background and I'd expect a little more interaction between foreground and background (the flare in particular - don't lens flares tend to 'bleed' round thr foreground objects?)
Cool concept... would be nice to see some spaceships or smaller space stations as part of the total composition to add interest and scale. |

Yeah nez it was imported into Ac3d for greebling !
the Truespace greeble plugin is an old one and didnt work well with Ts7.51
The middle structure should be some light but i have to work on it still...
Yes the lens flare now comes in front too. the first shot was just using
the hdr as the background and i had the flare in Vue enabled.
I sort of liked the strong overexposure that it makes but its not very logical
so I have it come in front on this now.:D

Cheers Rayman - I'm not familiar with Ac3d - do you have any links? Did you then export back in to Vue for this render, or is the Vue render a backdrop in TS?
The mid-section and lens flares look better already on this version. I'd still like to see some spaceships - I've got a couple of rockets I can donate ;) But really you could do with the monster one that I think Parva produced, or at least something the size of a star destroyer - another perfect target for some greeble work.
With regards to the TS greeble plug-in, can you tell me more about who produced that? It vaguely rings a bell... Whilst it might not work well with 7.51, I'm only on 5.1 so might be luckier....
Thanks |

Nez !
Heres an interesting link to greeble.....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greeble
Well ac3d is pretty basic software but the greeble plugin is very nice..
Ac3d does a good job for file conversion too .. like if you do some
models for X plane etc.
heres a link
http://www.inivis.com/
http://www.inivis.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3482
http://supercoldmilk.com/ac3dplug/greeble.html
Note that you can assign any own mesh you create as a greeble object !
As for the spaceships I will model some to some high detail but that will take some time and I dont think I will make use of greeble on these....all normal mesh......
This is just a work in progress so not realy finished anyway but I thought I would post to start to get things going foreward...
As for the Truespace greeble its pretty basic and only uses simple primitives..
here it is and only up to TS 6
http://pinacoderm.com/tsx/greeble/index.html
The 3d Max greeble is one of the best but its out of reach for use for me...
http://www.cgindia.org/2006/11/download-greeble-r9-plug-in-for-3ds.html
Stay tuned for the update on my project !

Nez !
Here is a picture of a custom greeble .....
Thats the best part of the ac3d plugin you can randomly disperse any kind
of shapes on a surface ..... or even a set of objects and the texture goes with it...
here an example of a spiked custom greeble...
When you look at the round shaped you can also randomly greeble on top of greeble see the second example

Thanks for the links and examples, I'll have to spend some time reading!
That was the TS plug-in I remember - and I thought it didn't look too great.
Will definitely have to look at ac3d - is that free?:o
I undertsood Max could do custom greebles (there's an extremely cool example in the gallery of the latest issue of 3dworld mag - an awesom esci-fi landscape) - wish we could do that in TS... |

No its not free its around 100 $ I remember but
it comes with a dozen of plugs that are all free including
greeble. If you ´d have to model all the random shapes you´d
spend days....
In big scifi productions they have custom tools but plugs like these come near
to the results !
in the old days of star wars etc. they used to glue models like tanks and
others onto surfaces .... basically sometimes even leftovers...

Nice render Rayman.. my only comment regarding your render is the lensflare comes from the back but the light seems it came from left to right.. |

Yes Augusto you found that !
Thats exactly what is not finished about it yet !
There will be a large lightsource coming in from the side top.....
If i had not made it that way I would have had to make this
side pitch dark .... you wouldnt have any light on this side at all !
Its going to be something like a huge ninelight from the left front !
maybe even coming from a spaceship !
good catch ! :D
