Hi folks. Just a reminder about the Tue. night scriptor meeting. We will be holding it at 6 PM Caligari Clock time. Below is a link to the Caligari clock:

http://www.caligari.com/CaligariClock.asp

If you download this, and follow the instructions, you'll be good to go Tuesday night!

http://forums1.caligari.com/truespac...ead.php?t=4359

See you there!

How to Connect:

*** If you've been there before (simple method) ***

Go to Meeting Room.

Then, click on Tom Hanks (where it says: Click Here To Go To Scriptorium)

******************************************

If you're new: (we will help just post here and we will help you!)

Since "how to get there" is something we all need to know, I've included the following links which provide greater detail on specifics in that regard:

(1) Getting a Password and Username to enter truePlaces:

(Our Tuesday Night Meeting is held inside a truePlace Portal (#1212) and you will need both a Password and Username to enter there which is different from your Caligari Customer Password and Username. Also be sure to get your truePlace Password and Username during Caligari business hours well before the meeting begins)

http://cart1.caligari.com/web/trueplaymainreg.aspx

(2) Instruction Page on Port Address Settings in trueSpace 7.5x:

(Note that the following instructions show you how to set the portal entry point in trueSpace to the truePlace Meetingroom (tpportal 1111) where once you arrive you will find an easel with an image on it which says "click here to enter the Scriptorium," and one you click on that image you will be instantly transported to the actual Script Developers Meeting held in tpportal 1212)

http://forums1.caligari.com/truespac...7&postcount=30

(3) The "connect to shared space" icon in truSpace7.5x:

The "connect to shared space" icon in trueSpace7.5x looks like two Avatars facing each other (ie: sharing space).

When you are all set and ready to connect you just need to click the appropriate icon in trueSpace and then enter your truePlaces Username and Password into the Dialog Box which will then pop up, then hit the "connect" button on the Dialog Box.

Well it's that time again folks....

...another Tuesday Night Script Developers Meeting is upon us, so shine up your cones and get ready for another fun night in shared space!:D

Tonight will be wide open for Scriptors and Shared Space Scene Developers to bring their projects and share whatever they wish to with us all. So if you have a script you'd like to discuss or a scene (saved out in advance as objects and no greater than 5 meg total in size) which you'd like to share with us tonight's your night, there will be plenty of opportunity for that.

Or maybe you are just someone curious about shared space and would like to know more about it and more about what it could do for you. If so, by all means bring your curiousity and ideas and share them with us. There meetings are always a great source of information and new ideas.

Tonight I'll be kicking off my portion of the show with a new portal scene which has been prepared just for this evening called the "Talon Deep Space Portal," and you never know what will happen once we all take over a new Tuesday Night Scene... so be sure to drop in tonight, we always have an excellent time.

Here's a few screenshots to give you an idea of what tonight will start out looking like... but where it goes from there is always anyone's guess!:D

See you all there,

If you can't tell by how many posts I did on the forum, it is not a very busy day for me. So I'm gonna log on to shared space early. If anyone wants to hang out and mess around with modeling and stuff drop on in. I'll be in the scriptorium.

Were almost at zero hour now folks, and I just wanted to bounce a couple of thoughts off of you all here before tonight's Community escapade.:)

Lately there has been a very large and noticeable increase in the number of Community Members here who are showing an interest in the future of shared space, what it will certainly offer each and every one of us VERY soon in terms of unique and substantial financial opportunities, and exactly where you may begin now to start approaching some of those potentials in what still remains a timely fashion.

I am also seeing a significant increase in the number of Scriptors and Caligari Beta Testing Team Members joining us on Tuesday Nights lately, whether to share a few things or ideas of their own or to help one another in the formulation of new development concepts in relation to scripting and shared space development. This is a most welcome thing. I can't tell you how much it has meant not only to me but to the Community as a whole that we are able to meet you in person in these meetings, learn, share, solve issues we may be having, find new approaches to many things together, and even to just have a great deal of fun together, never knowing who may do what next there or what great new ideas may emerge there for the very first time.

Shared Space Development is here to stay now. It won't be very long at all now until Caligari rolls out their new and affordable Personal Shared Space Portals for each of us to build our own online interactive and immersive multi-user scenes. What an incredibly exciting time it is now for trueSpace owners.

That rapidly approaching day will undoubtedly stimulate a vast transformation here among us all in the Caligari trueSpace Community. Instead of having to limit our artistic expression venues to the traditional output mediums of 2D and Web, we will now be able to create and share deeply immersive environments online and worldwide... environments where multi-user voice and music are also a part of the dream, where scripted environments are also a part of the dream, a place where we will all find that the greatest opportunities for developing our own unique forms of deeply immersive creative expression simultaneously offer us each as trueSpace Content Authors some of the greatest business opportunities ever experienced by 3D Artists in history.

These are not idle words, I was a successful Marketing C.E.O. for many many years before I retired. I know opportunities when I see them and I am accustomed to seeing them way before others tend to. Right now I see practical ways in which each of us could become genuinely wealthy in the next few years through Shared Space Development, but most importantly, without sacrificing the unique qualities of our own artistic styles in the process in order to adhere to some standard imposed upon us and upon this exciting new medium by others. These will be unique places we will be developing, tremendously unique, and accordingly... tremendously popular and marketable.

Come share the dream, before you wake soon to discover it is already here.

See you tonight.:)

Wow, another great night!

We had a huge turnout, 17 people at various times in all I believe, maybe more!

ProfessorKhaos (Nightflight) gave us a fantastic show with his scripted shark, this time he even had it homing in on objects as it swam realistically all over an underwater wave plane we brought in for it, just above the ground plane we also brought in which we were standing on up to our necks in the water with the shark!

Amazing development work, really. It is so realistic it is downright scary up close!

Norm was making more progress with the new Kiosk / Database tool and we all had an opportunity to learn more about that there as well.

The Space Scene was a huge hit, it was genuinely amazing to be up inside a huge spaceship looking down through glass windows in it's floor at the many avatars running around like tiny ants below all over the Space Portal's many walkways (they were kept from falling off them by invisible walls around the walkways taller than each avatar) and stepping into the teleporter field to be whisked up to the Spaceship.

Everybody had a blast with that one, the Space Portal was HUGE in dimensions but just under 5 meg in actual weight so it was navigable with no problems by all of us once we all saw where it was.... very high overhead!

As always we had a good time and it's always nice to see you all there and share a few laughs and learn new things.

Thanks everybody, another great night thanks to each of you.

See you all next Thurday night and next Tuesday night,

Appearance of sharks and strange UFOs a coincidence? I think not!!! I think somehow the UFO was controlling it! :D

You can see right here the blue light they use to accomplish such tasks (actually someone below had selected the space portal and I couldn't resist taking one of those "fire in the sky" style pics).

Lots of fun tonight and I learned quite a bit on how to read avatar positions by studying a teleport device that Norm and Mark mentioned. Guess what? Shark's gonna chase more than boxes now!

That space portal was something else indeed! Not just great looking from the outside but also when you're inside as well!

Thanks Glen,

That shark is starting to get very scary now!:D

http://bestsmileys.com/anxious/3.gif

We all had a blast with that. Just watching it move around so naturally with it's fins above water and it's tail thrashing back and forth so fluidly is mesmerizing!

When I stood on top of that cube jutting out of the water last night which you had scripted the shark to home in on I got a feel for what you are developing now with avatar homing... it's gonna be a race for high ground in shared space from now on for sure!:p

Thanks for that "fire in the sky" screengrab too, the scene there was a lot of fun and I didn't manage to grab any live screenshots myself because I was so busy watching the "ants" swarming around it from way overhead!

That was a lot of fun, the whole night. You're becoming famous now as a Leading Shared Space Developer Glen, welcome aboard... it's only gonna get better and be more fun for us all in the months and years ahead, and we're all very glad you are a big part of it all with us!:)

Hope to see you next time my friend, well done.;)

Sure. But I think we need something bigger. A LOT bigger! I don't want want to take AAANNNY Chances with That thing! :D

How about a depth charge? I'd feel safer with that...

OK four things....

1) The Depth Charge sounds like a much safer idea.:p

2) Next Tuesday Night's Scene is already underway and will be very different from any of my other scenes... screenies will drop in by Monday or Tuesday. Unlike my normal geometrically symmetrical stuff... this is a total departure and extremely unique. You will have lots of places to go exploring with this one for sure... you may even get lost in there! (Nope, not a cave this time... nice and sunny in fact.)

3) I created a new scripted object and scene for truePlay1.3 to overcome the current issue with default network settings. Now you will be able to have truePlay open any truePlace scene you wish as you enter shared space. I will have this new scene and scripted object uploaded here over the weekend so watch for it in this thread. The version below WILL NOT WORK with truePlay at all... don't even try it.

4) I created a new object for trueSpace7.5x users who are either unfamiliar with setting the Network Server and Portal Settings (the Demo users for instance) or are like me and just get tired of doing it manually when you are in a rush. Just load this puppy into Workspace or any scene and then click on it, it will automatically (and harmlessly) reset your current Network Server and Portal Settings (which you can do yourself manually anytime if you wish) to match "The Scriptorium" where our Meetings are held, and it will bring up the standard Shared Space "Login" Dialog to connect you right to us.:D

It doesn't get any easier than this.

The Object is below the image... just grab it and keep it handy.;)

Oh yeah... one other thing.

No one can log in to the truePlace Meetingroom today until it gets cleaned up. I tried all night with cable connection and zero success... it just grows in lag and you are unable to enter FPN or the LE or use you Widget or anything else.

I figured out why though... I managed to quickly save the portal scene to my scene library before Ctrl-Alt-Delete to exit trueSpace (the only option in that particular room tonight) and discovered what it was....

Somebody placed a NURBS Cube in that room.... that is "a BIG No No" in shared space folks... the Server has no idea how to handle it and it bogs everything up in a very big way fast.

Until one of the Admins can delete it none of us can get in there, so please, try to remember that NURBS and shared space do not get along together at the moment. You can model in NURBS offline and save your objects as polygonal models for later use in shared space, that's fine, they just can't be brought in to shared space AS NURBS objects or created there AS NURBS objects.

Thanks, and relax.... we make worse mistakes in there ourselves occasionally too!:p

LOL! That IS funny!!!

Well when I looked at the object just before deleting it offline it was named "cube,1" or something similar but as I clicked it in the LE and then looked for it in the scene to see whether it might be something which shouldn'rt be deleted I spotted it... it was off to the right of the entry point camera where it couldn't be seen on entry and was only showing 3 of it's six faces... the other ones could only be seen if one rotated around the object with the view widget which I tried to do briefly. As I did that I saw flashes of vector planes which appeared to be the other faces and their vertices were strewn out all over the place and appeared to shift wildly in position as one changed the viewing angle. There was no angle where more than 3 of the faces could be seen simultaneously, and the normals would appear to flip on the faces as one moved the viewing angle.

Could have been LOD I suppose, I have never seen an LOD object in shared space before. I have seen a NURBS object someone tried to build in the Scriptorium once during an unrelated meeting one night though and that too had very weird results slightly similar to this before it was quickly deleted by the modeler as folks mentioned it.

Not sure. It's really amusing though that you managed to delete that puppy with dialup while the rest of us on high-speed cable got trapped like spiders on a web with this thing! LOL! Three cheers for the mighty turtle!:)

Thanks Stan, whatever that thing was it was certainly a pain!

LOL!

Yeah, I got stuck there over 20 times I think while I kept trying to find ways to locate and delete the ofending object or script, but it was as though someone had placed an Avatar Lock script on the entry point camera (no one did though, I checked that offline) only worse! Even with an Avatar Lock you can still use the Nav Widget to rotate your view even though you are stuck while you are locked, but that wasn't the case with this phenomenon at all!

It was completely impossible not only to move or rotate, it was also impossible to enter FPN, and when the LE finally opened for me a few times it was also impossible to actually select items in it and to navigate within it as well. Leaving Ctrl-Alt-Delete as the only remaining option, unless one wanted to stay there forever as the object kept trying to download to your system with no way to succeed!

Man.... I am thankful for turtles today for sure.:)

Hey remember I am still a NEWB to 7.0+...

Oh yeah! Definitely, you can use truePlay1.3 which is free, but you will need to register it and get a password for truePlaces (all that info is on the Caligari main website under "truePlace" and "truePlay") before you go online.

Also, you could download the free TS7.5 Demo and use that to get there, which would give you the advantage over truePlay of being able to see inside the Link Editor (not available in truePlay) where scripts take place.

But if you just want a quick experience without the scripting stuff sure, just grab truePlay, register it with Caligari and get a password for truePlaces all from the Caligari Homesite. You should be able to get that done fast tomorrow for instance a few hours before the meeting.

Then, you can load the following file I just made in the following thread where you can walk inside the scene, and click a book object I created there to take you straight to us in the Scriptorium area of truePlace:

http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=4459 (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=4459)

PS: Wear a headset with a mic unless you are on Vista, Vista has current audio probs in shared space. There is also a text chat window available to talk in live with others who are there, but audio is easier usually.

See you there!:)

PS: I did mention to the powers that be that you may have an interest in the Beta Team... I too am on it.;)

Looked all over a few times for Foleypro but no luck.
