We will require an xmass tree for upcoming xmass festivities. This is an open invitation for folks to create an xmass tree. Caligari will judge entries on next Monday, which is one week away, of all entries submitted here. Then folks who are making ornaments, will have their ornaments decorating this tree.

Question is how low poly can we go? Ideally the tree would be low poly and minimal texture.

No time now but you could use a square or triangle with a christmas tree texture on it... :)

Here you go Norm,

I just made this for you but I don't have the time to create and apply the alpha-mapped branch planes it will require. This could also use some poly reduction in trueSpace, but aside from those needs it is a pretty good base to start from.

Anybody is free to modify this and use it as you like.

Enjoy,

I will definitely be making a bunch of unique ornaments whenever that starts too.

Thanks! Took all of 10 minutes! LOL!:D

The real hassle will be in placing the alphamapped branches, but the placement of the primary branches here and their angles should make that look great when it is done, asuming anyone wants to do it!:p

I'm looking forward to making the ornaments!;)

I would like to make a tapering spiral helix or two of tiny vertex shaded lightbulb strings for this tree.

I will need some help with the animation of the vertice lighting so that each vertce "bulb" will "light" in sequence.

If anybody can help me with that please let me know, and let's get together in the Scriptorium soon and work out the script / method details.

Thanks.
