Script Developers Meeting - Tuesday December 4th

It's another Tuesday here folks, and you know what that means, another fun night in the truePlace Scriptorium awaits us all together.

We try to out-do our new Tuesday Meeting Scene every week, and as most of you know now we have met already in an extremely wide variety of unusual environments (in a deep space portal, in an underwater laboratory, inside a volcano, in shark-infested shallow water, inside the calyx of a giant orchid, etcetera) and this Meeting will be no exception to the rule.;)

Tonight, we will all be meeting inside a human brain.:D

As always everyone is encouraged to bring with you any questions, ideas, scripts, scripted objects, unscripted 3D objects, or whatever else you may like to share with us all together. There will be ample opportunity provided to all who wish to present anything, and anything you'd like to discuss or share there with us all is most welcome.

Even if you have very little or no understanding of trueSpace Scripting, Shared Space Development, or Immersive 3D Desktop Development, drop by anyway... it's always an interesting and fun experience and each of us, including you, make it so every time.

I hope to see you all there for this one, it will definitely be interesting and fun.

Thanks.

Directions:

Directions for those WITH an existing truePlace password:

Option 1:

Go to the following web page and look for the "Scripting Live!" links for either truePlay or trueSpace then click the one you wish to use.
http://www.caligari.com/birdsofafeather.asp (http://www.caligari.com/birdsofafeather.asp)

Option 2:

Download the scripted objects which I created (in the following forum posts) and click them to be taken there.

For trueSpace 7.51, 7.5, and the TS Demo:

I created a new object for trueSpace7.5x users who are either unfamiliar with setting the Network Server and Portal Settings (the Demo users for instance) or are like me and just get tired of doing it manually when you are in a rush.

Just load this puppy into Workspace or any scene and then click on it, it will automatically (and harmlessly) reset your current Network Server and Portal Settings (which you can do yourself manually anytime if you wish) to match "The Scriptorium" where our Meetings are held, and it will bring up the standard Shared Space "Login" Dialog to connect you right to us.

For truePlay Users:

for truePlay users - go to the following thread and download the scripted scene there then load it in truePlay and click on the green book inside the scene.
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=4459 (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=4459)

Directions for those WITHOUT an existing truePlace password:

(1) Getting a Password and Username to enter truePlaces:

(Our Tuesday Night Meeting is held inside a truePlace Portal (#1212) and you will need both a Password and Username to enter there which is different from your Caligari Customer Password and Username. Also be sure to get your truePlace Password and Username during Caligari business hours well before the meeting begins)
http://cart1.caligari.com/web/trueplaymainreg.aspx (http://cart1.caligari.com/web/trueplaymainreg.aspx)

(2) Instruction Page on Port Address Settings in trueSpace 7.5x:

(Note that the following instructions show you how to set the portal entry point in trueSpace to the truePlace Meetingroom (tpportal 1111) where once you arrive you will find an easel with an image on it which says "click here to enter the Scriptorium," and one you click on that image you will be instantly transported to the actual Script Developers Meeting held in tpportal 1212)
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespac...7&postcount=30 (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespac...7&postcount=30)

(3) truePlace "Scripting Live1" Page: (with countdown timer in PST):
(This is the Caligari Countdown Timer and Info Page for our Tuesday Meetings)
http://www.caligari.com/ScriptLive.asp (http://www.caligari.com/ScriptLive.asp)

(4) The "connect to shared space" icon in truSpace7.5x:

The "connect to shared space" icon in trueSpace7.5x looks like two Avatars facing each other (ie: sharing space).

When you are all set and ready to connect you just need to click the appropriate icon in trueSpace and then enter your truePlaces Username and Password into the Dialog Box which will then pop up, then hit the "connect" button on the Dialog Box.

See you there folks!

By the way folks... I should have mentioned the size of this brain we are all meeting in here.... it is big enough to encompass about 100 Avatars.

If the ground grid were visible in that screenshot up above it would be very tiny by comparison with the brain for sure.:D

Yep, I know just what you mean...

If things get real bad just remember what Groucho Marx said....

Ok folks... here we go again!

We're getting close to zero hour here for the meeting start so I just wanted to clarify what this will be like for folks to experience in case some of you (or more likely all of you!) may be wondering!:)

The following 5 realtime screengrabs of this meetingplace we will be inhabiting tonight explain it all.

If anyone is unsure of how to get there to the Scriptorium truePlace portal tonight please read the very first post in this thread with extensive instructions to make all that very easy for you, thanks.;)

See you all there folks,

Lots of fun tonight as always! :)

My pic of the "infested brain". Seemed to be a lot of voices in my head :D

P.S. Moments later all sorts of weird things started showing up in there... loose screw, glass of beer, aspirin, arrow through the brain, animated stick figure swimmer (swimming in the beer) and a giant flyswatter in case of bugs... etc... etc...

Video and images from the Tuesday December 4th 2007 Script Developers Meeting. :)

Mark's Brain - I think there's problems going on in there! :D

EDIT: I forgot to add Glenn's name to the video, an oversight on my part - he was the bug man. :D Blame it on late night video compositing. :D

First it was sharks - now bugs...

enjoy!

You should have been there! :)

Wow james. That is the best shared space video yet! The beer didn't look like that to me at all for some reaon. It just looked like a blue cup. I must have had a setting off somewhere. This would be a great promo video for caligari to use except it says beer is helping ugly people have sex lol. Funny stuff. Great work man!

Hahahaha!!!

Yeah... first Norm went and loaded a duplicate brain with all the vertices lit up in white, when it was scaled to match the blue brain it did look like an infestation for sure! Hahaha!!! Between that and all the aphid-sized Avatars in there flying all around it was one very funny environment... but then it just kept getting funnier!!!

Between James, Augusto, and Dennis, all the things they created and added to that scene gave us all so many laughs for so long we were all hurting!!! They were both very funny last night! And then Dennis adding that Giant Swimming Stickman and someone scaling that beer glass so he was swimming in it was also really funny to see there!

Those new flying smart-bugs you brought in were a blast too... they are getting very realistic now in their behaviors... and soon we will all be riding them in there too... the saddles are already made and ready for scripting! Hahahaha!!

Thanks Glen, whenever you show up at one of these Tuesday Night Script Developers Meetings we all know we are in for a great time, and last night was certainly no exception to the rule! We all had a blast!

Who would have thought that an old 3d model of a brain laying around on my hard drive could ever be used for so many people to have such a huge amount of fun together inside?!?!?!

Just goes to show you that you can do an awful lot of great and funny things with shared space and a wild imagination!:D

Thanks guy, these amazing new script contributions of yours to this Community will all definitely be used by us more and more in the years ahead... like Norm says, you are "the granddaddy of trueSpace Artificial Intelligence" for sure!:p

Well done!;)

Thanks James,

Dennis is right. that's definitely the best shared space video we ever had here and I laughed my tail off when I saw it the first time there on YouTube!:p

I think I've already watched it ten times since!!! Very very funny and well done!:D

You said a lot up there with those words too... "You should have been there!," because everyone seeing that video now will get a tiny glimpse of the huge amount of fun we always have in there together on Tuesday Nights!!!:D

I'm really glad you started coming to these Meetings James, we had a blast in there together last night and you, Augusto and Dennis had me laughing very very hard all night in there!:p

Great people, great night.... and together we also share a very bright future developing shared space for sure!

Thanks guy and well done!;)

LOL!

Yeah, I still wonder who came up with that beer label in there. There was so much going on in there at once I have no idea! At the time I was up high in the brain walking along some huge arrow that someone had stuch through the brain! Hahahaha! Everytime I turned around in there something new was being tossed in there or created on the spot by someone and I couldn't keep up with all the developments at all!!! Very very funny stuff for sure!

That's one of the things I really love about these Tuesday Night Meetings and the Saturday Meetings... we have a little bit of structure but a ton of freeform creativity that always takes on a dynamic all it's own when we all get together in shared space... there's just nothing like it.:D

More and more of us appear to be getting hooked on all this shared space fun too... these Meetings are all getting much larger every time and I think that will only continue to be the case as times goes on! The word is out now, and the more of us that show up the more interesting and fun it becomes for everyone every time!

Thanks Dennis, we had a blast and you had us laughing hard in there for sure!;)

That was really funny for sure, and I absolutely loved the background music!!! Hahahaha!!!:p

That's one feature we DEFINITELY need soon in shared space.... ambient background audio.... music, waves crashing on a distant reef, the occasional bird chirping somewhere beyond sight... such things are subtle but very important to the genuine immersion experience in virtual worlds.:)

James's very funny video there is a good example of how much fun it would be to have that ability in shared space, too bad the music had to be added afterwards... would have been a riot to have it there live!:D
