Hi all,

Since we have a lot of new people around, thought I'd post this reminder that Thursday night this week, July 31st, is a Thursday Night Live! night.

This is an informal gathering where we just get together with no specific topic or purpose, and invite tutorials, questions, general chat, etc! I'll be there for sure, as will some of our long-time users, so why not drop by?

It takes place at 5PM PST. You can use the "Join Now" link on this page:

http://www.caligari.com/BirdsOfAFeather.asp?SubCate=S2BOAF

Note that the clock is currently incorrect, I'll be removing that soon until we get a new script for it working :)

We'll see you there!

Me likey cookies!

Anyway, the meeting is tonight, you can join from this page:

The Caligari clock on there should be working again, showing PST time! Let me know if anyone sees anything wrong with the clock (always slightly concerned about summer time offsets locally for these sort of scripts).

Hi Tom.

Yes, the clock is correct. Thanks! Now we can refer to it again, when referring to scriptor and animator meetings.

Whether there is speed modeling or not is up to you all - you are the ones that take part :) So if folks want one, there will be one. We don't have one when no-one comes forward to take part though. Do note that there no prizes for speed modeling any more, at this point in time at least, so it would be for fun only!

If anyone would like to take part in speed modeling (you get 15 minutes to model something), then put your name forward here and we can see who will be the contestants tonight.

I also welcome input on just what people might model - remember to pick something that can be done reasonably well in just 15 minutes! Post your ideas here and we can find a consensus on what would make a great topic for tonight.

HTH!

I have a big thunderstorm rolling in by the sound of it, about to go out and check it out (and feed the dog) - figured I'd post notice in case I get disconnected or a power out.

Assuming all is well, I'll see everyone at the TNL! in about 45 mins!

Did this take place? I got there late (10 pm EST) and the place was empty. I was hoping to meet some new single eye balls.

Yes, it took place! We had a great speed modeling contest between 3dfrog and The Master Elite. Folks were there from 5pm to 8pm PST (perhaps longer, but I had to leave at around the 3 hour mark).

Posting one image here, the aftermath of the speed modeling when Master Elite's star destroyer fleet opened fire on 3dfrog's space pineapple. There was even a story to go with it :O One star destroyer has met a nasty end due to real-time booleans, while the other was prone to falling down (when physics was activated - which also made the space pineapple fall into pieces!)

The next TNL! is next week, since its the first of the month, so we'll see you there I hope! Be sure to use the links from the web page to join (http://www.caligari.com/birdsofafeather.asp ) - last night we were in tpportal you see, currently not using tsportal (though I did check over in tsportal in case folks had gone to the wrong server).

Thanks!

Tom

Darn, I missed it again! :( I have a planner program I use all of the time that can notify me of events. I use it for the other meetings and it works great. Those meetings are weekly or bi-weekly though. Unfortunately, the Thursday meetings are on the first and third Thursday, and I can't program that. I can program weekly or bi-weekly reminders, but the first and third Thursday is not alway bi-weekly. So it makes it hard to program reminders and I always end up forgetting. :(

Maybe I can set up some kind of monthly reminder that reminds me to set the Thursday reminders for that month. That might work. I'm just too absent minded with this kind of stuff. I'd miss everything if it weren't for technology.

Yes, the computer as memory upgrade (that is, an upgrade to our human memories), very common these days!

Funnily enough I keep track of tasks and meetings pretty much in my head, rarely using any planning / organisational tool - which is pretty odd considering just how much I do use PCs for these days (dictionaries, encyclopedias, musical instruments, artistic instruments, notepads, letter writing, etc).

Schedule a weekly reminder to go and update the planner with one-off TNL! entries :)

What tom said, or...

create two meetings.

One monthly for the first week of the month and another monthly for the third week of the month.

It should show up on the forum calendar at least until the end of January 2009.
Yeah, we have a calendar.

Mwahahahahhaaaa!

...well, actually Tom only got to see half of the story...the Pineapple survived due to its anomolous existance in the Star Wars universe...it then fired one of its biological growth pods and made the star destroyer esplode...

Lord Vader, of course, escaped...

Haha I have a feeling if I were there I would have lost any battle that took place lol :)

I'm not going to lie, I honestly completely forgot about it lol. But there's another one this Thursday? Hmmm.... I'll try to come as long as there aren't any epic battles I'm involved in, especially if I'm expected to do well ;)

All epic battles, with spaceships or otherwise, are purely voluntary - spectators are quite welcome :)

With it being a new month, there is indeed another TNL! meeting this Thursday at 5pm PST, so I hope to see some folks there. Note that serious questions etc are welcome, it's a great place to learn as well as having fun with less serious items like exploding pineapples.
