Well everything was removed and no one answered my question so thanks for not responding . After all the room wasn't changed or modified, it was for Halloween and a bunch of us worked on it. I also thought it looked pretty cool. Now stop asking us to support your truePlay.

Might it have been a server crash or possibly related to Roman's post about making the Halloween room permanent?

Maybe there has been a miscommunication somewhere...

When I was trynig to add stuff to the TNL! Meeting Room, I had this huge polygon in my view. We had a similar issue in the Scriptorium about a week or so ago. Several folks had a major crash, then some were seeing these huge polygons. I think to resolve the issue in the scriptorium, all items were removed. Clean slate.

Prodigy reported some sort of issue with the Ghoul's texture which was added to the TNL! Meeting Room. Perhaps that caused a similar problem on the server?

The TNL! meeting room had lots of cool Halloween decorations in it. It'd be nice if we could get those back for the TNL! folks if possible;

The Scriptorium had the Haunted House in it; I believe it is still there, although I removed the timer and commented out some script code referring to the timer. The timer is used to dim and relight the red light; it works great on your PC but kinda funky on the server.

Maybe a Server crash.
Our room was decorated way before the Halloween Room. They were two different rooms and the one we worked in wasn't being used for another week. While I worked on our room I visited the other room and it was bare back then. I don't know why it would be cleaned since no one else was using it. We were trying to make it look special.
The problem Prodigy had with Alpha mapping, I removed the object myself and asked Prodigy to report it. It was no longer there as I remember.

what I mean is,

I mentioned that the Haunted House, now in the scriptorium, was made by a large contingent of community folks. So perhaps someone saw in the TNL room, a bunch of Halloween objects, which were removed, because we did not announce that we were decorating it for the TNL! event. Maybe. (?)

EDIT:

Maybe we could notify Caligari we want to dress up the TNL! Meeting Room for tonight and do our best to replace the items? I think we have a lot of the parts here in the forums...

Hmm did this get resolved? i only just saw this thread, and it sounds rather sad, but hard to believe anybody would remove stuff without telling anyone and without a really good reason...

Stuff happens sometimes, but I hope it did get fixed..?

yes unfortunately I only just noticed this thread this morning too.

Only thing I can think happened here, is because the room is a general purpose one , then it may have been replaced by someone else during the course of the days or the most likely cause could be is that if a bad object was placed and the server wasnt saved to the point where the room was decorated , then loading the server bk-up files used will not have contained the changes made to it.

for safety I make manual back-ups as well as automatic ones to ensure that in cases where the space is damaged , the server is aable to be started from a point when it is good.

I do remember having to do this at some point on Monday this week, so that may at least provide a reasonable explanation to the changes if it fits in with the timescale .

Steinie ,

If you have the scene in all its glory as it was decorated up , rar or zip it and post it here , ill see what i can do to salvage the space.

or if you have the objects , put them back there again then pm me about it.

The decorations were a group effort and the intent was to surprise the Caligari staff at "Yesterdays" meeting. Too late.

A message saying the scene was too big or a note saying the server crashed would have satisfied me. The objects causing problems I removed myself and Prodigy reported to you guys. So the scene should have been problem free. To find all our work gone was disheartening. It felt like Who From Whoville.

Thanks for responding.

steinie somebody may have added a bad object afterwards , or the space was redecorated again .I'm sorry this has happened as much as you are.

when was it last ok? and can you verify which room it was done in?and the time.

I know the time is passed for the surprise but I am still interested in what happened , I wouldnt inadvertently wipe a space myself without first finding out about it.

Well this past Saturday I had added a bowl of heads.

I came back later, and there were only two in there. And, I was seeing that huge triangle of and on, in front of me. I think the last time before the scene restoration that the scene looked OK for me was Saturday afternoon.

I believe around that same time, the ghoul was causing problems (the skeleton with a texture attached, stuck to the spider web)

Thanks for responding.Sorry to hear about that:( These are early times for collaboration we are bound to take some arrows, but we will learn from all our mistakes, server will get all the time better and better.

Copy That.

Looking forward to improvements and fewer crashes on the client side too! I've crashed and burned countless times right in the midst of a really interesting conversation...

Ah man. TGIF.

Hi Steinie,

I'm sorry this happened to you and the other folks who put that together. The last time I was in there while it was still there it was looking really cool. I especially liked that character on the pad there with the spider on it's face, I got a good look at that and I liked the unique modeling style a lot.

The next time I went through there it was all gone and somehow that Scriptorium Easel link also got miniaturized and popped into a dark corner too.

It would have been fun to have that all around us at the TNL! meeting. I assumed all along it would be until I saw it had vanished.

Well whatever the cause was, maybe we can all do something similar together for Thanksgiving or Christmas. I think it was a good initiative, and I hope we can do something like that again here as a community sometime.

Hey we are all pioneers so glitches will happen. So thanks for the kind words.

I forgot I did a few screen captures while we were working on the scenes. The ghoul was the object causing problems. Stupid Ghoul...

We did a lot more work later but at least I have some captures to show.

wow that pumpkin looks better than I last saw!

Now, if we do want to do this for Thanksgiving and XMas, we need to notify Paul Ashington, so he can make routine backups. That will avoid a repeat of this issue.

You can also back up the scene, or objects in it, locally. That way should disaster strike at least one person can send along the scene to Paul for recreation, or can just upload the objects again one by one.

That will be another route to help avoid lost items in future.

Thanks!

Tom
