Allow a single keyboard shortcut to be set that would combine the following two existing operations, and add a third bit of functionality:

(1) Look At Current Object

THEN

(2) Set "Rotate around Selected Object" mode.

Additionally, (3) the selection should be zoomed to fit the screen.

This really helps speed up editing when tweaking, ect. as is a common feature in most other modeling applications.

My guess is that it is possible to create this for yourself, if you have tS7. It could be assigned to a widget or maybe an icon. I don't know enough scripting and widget editing to give you any more pointers, or definite confirmation it would work, but it sounds like the sort of thing that would be possible without developer intervention or waiting for a patch!

HTH!

EyeZoom.tsx...where are you?
(Check your tsx folder, you may already have it)

Also, in tS6 clicking the mouse wheel will 'Look At' the currently selected object. Scrolling the wheel will zoom in.
Between the mouse wheel click and dragging the 'Rotate around selected object' on the view widget, it doesn't get much easier... except if you install eyezoom.tsx. Hopefully it's included with your installation of tS, because I could no longer locate it on the web.

Similar functioning tsx may be found here. (http://ckgamefactory.hp.infoseek.co.jp/index-e.html)

This thread (http://forums.caligari.com/discus/messages/1580/15665.html?1079688885) in the old forum may also give you some ideas.
