Is always possible to do such things to forums. The real question is how to handle the idea.

I can set up a main tutorial forum. We could call it the Tutorium :)

Well not a "forum" proper but a category. Sub-forums could house a forum for each tutorial, which would allow for a main thread that could be closed, which houses the tutorial proper. Other threads in that forum could be questions about the tutorial. At least this way we attempt to organize the information in one area/forum.

Is this idea related to the Speed Challenge winner scenario?

For those interested in making tuts, I found an interesting program called Wink this morning. You can take screenshots, including recording screen activity, then edit all of the shots\frames in a timeline-like way while adding text, vector shapes and audio even, then export to flash or html..even pdf I believe
I'm still digging into it but is very simple and works well and is freeware.

http://www.debugmode.com/wink/

So is this open to all tutorials or just ones for the speed challenge?

Just noticed there are some other cool looking apps at that site including a video editor called wax .. links are top right

HOOOO

A good idea is the Tutorium be moderated.. like the free zones..

When somebody send a Tutorial the moderator see if its a good enough to be in the tutorium...

And in other part, ouside the tutorials page.. a zone where the people can make questions to the developer..

The Tutorium is in place thanks to Norm and the great idea by Prodigy. Thanks guys!

Now I would like to request some input from a few of you if you want. (or have the time).

Graysho has a nice tutorial on UV mapping I would like to see it done in English if possible.

I would love to see a Texturing tutorial by MadMouse

The methods of the W!zard and Spacekdet

Lighting techniques by Parva and Vizu

Organic modeling by WickedWitch

Modeling or Industrial Design by Prodigy

"Maximizing Your Time, Concept to Realization" by Splinters

Attention to Details by ChrisJ

Scripting by Emma, trueBlue, Johny, ProfessorKhaos, and Stan (where are you anyways buddy?)

Creating your Environment by Emmanuel

Anything Animation by Frank and Humdinger...(Rats I forgot Tiles! Sorry)

Creature Design by Gwot or Shike

Car modeling by i_maker, WW, and Dave_K

LowPoly Modeling by Eagle, J_Edwards and Heidi

Many, many other talented folks too who could give a nice Tutorial to help all of us...

(Rats I forgot Tiles! Sorry)

Don't worry. It is anyway impossible to know and/or name them all ;)

Not sure how to handle this new area. I have three tutorials available. One of them online, and two as zip files. Can i simply post the links or has those tutorials to be written as a thread?

This will be the point where we need Norm to tell us the best way. I envision an approved area (by Norm) that can only be used by the Tutorial's Author. Then a link to it for users to ask questions. I believe that is what Prodigy had in mind too. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Norm do you want to lay down the rules for submission?

My preference would be to have a Tutorials Area (much like Tech Forum, Roundtable etc) and each topic within would be a specific tutorial, the first post being the tutorial itself (or attachment of tutorial or link to tutorial) followed by any questions\comments. The first post could be edited or added to at any time by only the author but the related comments etc would be encapsulated in the same thread. If there was a significant update, maybe the author could request that Norm insert it below the first post; rather than part 1 be separated from part 2 by a bunch of comments. To me it might get more confusing if there is an individual locked thread for each tutorial and then a thread for comments about the tutorial...it might require a lot more effort (after the Tut area has been around for awhile) to find the comment thread that relates to a given tutorial, although a link in the tut thread to the comment thread might help in this case. Imagine having one window for the tut and one window for the comments (if you were wanting to reference the tut while asking a question) and maybe even a 3rd window if the tutorial contains links or attachments. Maybe I'm overanalyzing a bit :D

Also, maybe there could be an ongoing sticky thread for tutorial suggestions, requests etc.

For instance I'm less likely (as a 6.6 user) to read a Vray Caustics tutorial and may miss a comment like "hey that's cool, how about a tutorial for faking it in lightworks?" whereas with a specific thread for requests I might see it because I habitually check the request thread.

If Frank was able to translate his MoStu tutorial into the forum, it would be a good starting point :) Any other tutorials from him would be most welcome as well. My latest tutorials have been video tutorials (flash) about uv-mapping and skybox creation. The uv-mapping tutorial could be easily translated with new narration, so no problem here. I think if I embed the flash video into the post somehow, it should be fine.

Well my first suggestion is to begin with one single tutorial.

Say for instance it was Helmut Creation by: so'and'so.

I create one forum for Helmut Creation: in that forum is a thread where the actual tutorial is created, uninterrupted by questions. It would be a sticky thread so its up top always. Then just under that would be threads where folks ask questions.

So I created the main category already. Everyone should see it now on main forums listing. No forums exist yet but the area is ready for a forum to be created for the first tutorial.

It is not so much that I am the "boss" folks. I am more like a facilitator that can set stuff up and help to organize. Everyone here should be who can decide what they want to see in way of tutorials.

If we begin with one tutorial we can see where it leads :)

Great idea, and I like the separation of tutorial thread from comments.

Can someone tell me how to post so the thread has picture, text, picture... etc.

Sorry if I'm missing the obvious but I get text and then all attached images at the end.

I'm glad there is interest in this.

My suggestion is have a clear description in the title you chose and include Versions of TS your tutorial applies to.

Example would be "Advanced Bones TS 5-6.5" (I made this up not sure of version this would really apply)

Ok lets see..

To put a image on a specific part of the text first you must upload some attachments like images..

The command line to call the attachments is.

idnumber

Well, soon as you upload the files, now can find them on the attach files, inside de additional Options window..

3969

Now if you pose the mouse over the attachment file (in this case the image called 232.jpg) you gonna see the URL..

The ID Number its the number before the...

http.........attachmentid=XXXX bla bla bla...

In this case is 3968...

Now you have the command line and the id number..

and now if you write on the specific part of your text.. (without spaces)

3968

Theres gonna be the specific image with the ID number 3968 = image 232.jpg

http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/misc.php?do=bbcode#imgcode

Theres were you can fin this and other command lines...

Hope you help...

there is still a small problem because unfortunately I updated to newest Microsoft internet explorer where I can't find the bottom line which shows the link when I get the mouspointer over a link.

See attached pic to switch on status bar to display links when you mouseover.

Prodigy and Emma your pioneers! Thanks for being the first.
We need to get Emma's moved to the Tutorium since this thread is only about it.
Prodigy did you work with Norm to get yours started or just submitted ? I can see the "reply" button is active will that reply be part of your tutorial?

I think this Tutorium idea is going to make TS very popular. Now the users (at all levels) have one place to go and find Tutorials to fit their needs. Some may want Professional Training and they have a library of Caligari tutorials to purchase. Some may just be stuck on a tool or technique where the users Tutorial will help. These three areas located in one place was badly needed for years and I'm glad it was implemented.

After reading Prodigy's Tutorial about Vray I'd be surprised if it's sales didn't increase. Guest visiting here are finally going to see step by step what trueSpace can do and how easily it can be done!

Can i say something???

Well.. i must say something to the new tutorials..

First, the idea whas translate the tutorials to the forum format.. why?? because first if the tutorials are in other site.. Maybe in the future somebody delet the site.. and thats with the tutorial..

Second, is to simple upload a file.. Take your time to copy the images and copy and paste the text.. is not hard work at all..

I work at 4 am and left my own work and wife to put the first tutorial and to make it clear and visualy atractive.. (and without spelling errors :D )

Plz.. try to make the tutorium a more ordenated place...

Just a response on attaching images within the body of text. A much simpler way; when posting a new thread or reply or when editing in advanced mode an icon of a paperclip appears in the tool bar of the text editor. If you have uploaded an image, a click of this icon will drop down a list of those attachments. Put your cursor where you want the image to appear within your text, click on the paperclip and select the file name of the uploaded image. This performs the same task as prodigy describes but it's more automatic.
