This is actually a lightwave tool, but the basic idea is..

1. activate a face for extrusion

2. drag out the extrusion(extrusion follows mouse path)

3. adjust the amount of segment divisions, twist, the amount of taper, and edit the path itself(via CV handles).

the divisions are oriented about the path so no kinks etc..

it's available in most apps, extrusion along a spline basically, exception is you drag/draw out the path and it extrudes in real time.

maya has this tool, I used it to create the wire comin from an MP3 player I modeled in it, it was very handy to be able to just draw a CV curve and extrude along it, you could taper and adjust how many divisions. It is a very handy tool indeed. The problem I had was that I wanted to make an animation where the extrusion would follow the line in realtime so in effect it would grow, I still do not know how to do this nor what to call it to find a tutorial heh.

This is a feature I hope will be added as it will be much used, im wondering if some clever soul on these forums is reading this and would like to make a plugin that does it heh

It is very useful for a multitude of projects, from trees to moldings. It's path extrusion on steroids.
