I personally am not happy not to have a save toolbar in the workspace. And from what i can read i am not the only one. For me it is not legacy to save a file the old fashioned way. For me it it is even more complicated to use the library for that needs.

Please, Caligari, give us the Save toolbar in Workspace.

I am puzzled by this request Tiles, the save feature really only works for the model (legacy) side of things and that is where the save feature is; for .scn and .cob files etc.

Workspace is a whole new architecture that does not support such functions yet and the new library system has been overhauled and redesigned. The two are effectively separate which is why we have a bridge.

Not sure what benefit there would be in a save function in workspace that is any better than the 'insert' into library we have...

99,9 % of all software does have a save bar. Why not trueSpace? There is also a WRONG future.

The benefit? I have a data partition. With all my content from the last years. Shall i really adjust the TS browser to acess to all my thousands of folders and subfolders? I am ways faster and more comfortable with Windows Explorer here.

The benefit is also that i work in one folder to create my stuff. And then move it to my data partition when done. Also here ways faster and more comfortable to handle with Windows Explorer.

Loading a file? I enter Windows Explorer, click to my needed folder, and double click at it. The same way in Library is a pain for me.

Don't get me wrong, i see the benefit of the library. It is useful for most other needs. But for me no option. I need a save as. I need a way to save my stuff to folders, not inside the Library :)

Tiles, you already have it on Library tab since tS7. Right side of tS7 screen. ;)

The Library browser is not Windows Explorer ;)

Just to clarify, i don't say the Library Browser is evil. It is useful. Sometimes even for saving. But why not let the user decide which way to go?

At least when it comes to load and save in different file formats we need a save as ;)

How about a small window explorer library, rmb in any folder could open an alternate dialogue for exporting to alternate formats...and of course the standard browsing functionality. This may be more difficult than usefull, but I don't know....I think it would be handy.

I would vote for that.

Current trueSpace's library is a "sort by type" system :
shaders in shaders library, scenes in scenes library, objects in objects library, etc...

My files management is a mix of "sort by type", and "sort by project" though :

In sort by type, I mean I have for example one big folder called Textures. It contains -in folders and sub-folders- all of my textures shared by several trueSpace projects (like trees, woods, concretes, skies, ets...).

In sort by project, I mean I create one folder per client. And that folder has sub-folders for each order/project. Here I store my 3D items (scn, cob, RsScn, RsObj files) in a "3D" folder ; my special textures in a "textures" folder ; the emails with instructions or prices in an archive "emails" folder, "plans", "photographies", "ressources", etc... in other separated folders.

The new tS7.5 libraries should be used to store the "sort by type" content only. But even this is not so evident : for example I like to double-clic a texture in a texture folder to open it in full size with ACDSee and apply a rotation or some quick color effects before I load it into the material editor...
This is not possible with the propietary libraries.
In other words, its potential to store textures, objects and scenes seems -for professional purposes- is quite limited.

It is more suited / designed to store truespace components : DX shaders, recordings, layouts, character poses and BVH, etc...

My conclustion is that tS7.5 needs a Windows Explorer room in the stack view, with load and save menu, adress bar and Windows context menu support.
Of couse I could have Windows Explorer running in the taskbar, like the way I work today... but a Stack View window designed to run a Windows Explorer tree could be more elegant.

What do you think ?

It would be much cleaner, I'm not sure how well it would integrate, but I want it none the less.:p

One word: Hotkeys.
Control A-S, I'm looking at you.
Also, another word: choice.
Take the tS Image Browser as an example. I know technically it's not a 'Library', but bear with me. It's fine for thinly populated folders of textures, but if you run with one giant texture repository like I do it's just too slow to open it and wait for it to generate thumbnails. It's like it has amnesia and has to generate them each and every time I open it. 99.9% of the time I simply right-click and browse for my textures using standard Windows dialogs.
I can quickly sort by date, size, name, or visually with much much faster thumbnail generation. I can navigate quickly and consistently. I can use Windows shortcuts to jump between folders so that I don't have to climb up and down trees if I don't want to.
How do I find 'Recent Files' in a Library? How do I sort them by different criteria? I like them for some things, Lights and Object Libraries are what I mostly use, the rest I prefer to use a menu/hotkey to get done what I need done. Don't remove that choice....er, I mean, restore that choice.

restore that choice.

having a choice is better..like the new ui colour scheme, it may work for most but not all people..;)

I too want save and save as in the workspace. A golden rule in web design is "don't make the user think", and I reckon the same applies here. I'd not found the saving facilities in the library, as I'd assumed that the library would be something I'd look at later when I had the time, rather than it being a compulsory requirement to function. I don't particularly want to use the library, when old fashioned save and save as works perfectly well.

Please allow me to learn new ways of working in my own time. Standard windows options are there for a reason - usability.

While we're on the topic, please can the file menu in the model view be adapted to a standard windows format too. The sideways fly-out lists of recent files etc. is very hard to read. A vertical list would be so much easier to work with.

Many thanks, Grommit :)
