How about a light attached to the camera so that you can see what you are doing when moving around the scene or model. With the default lighting there is always a shadow somewhere and if there was a simple attach light to the camera or a way to evenly light the scene while making adjustments etc it would be a massive help. Maybe there already is a way. If so can anyone point me to it? Sometimes when I think the scene is finished I spot some tweaking thats needing done but part of its in shadow. I don't really want to have to move the model and put it back in place again afterwards.

Cheers

Mykyl,

I've found adding an 'Ambient' light (or two) to a scene (even temporarily) helps a bit with that.

But it would be nice to have a type of 'spotlight' that is attached for modeling

hope this helps,

rf

In workspace, you can encapsulate objects. So you add a new camera and say a spot light into an area of the LE. Position the light in relation to the camera object as you wish. You can then encapsulate them both. Once they are encapsulated, you select the encapsulated object and go for its axis. Position the axis to where the camera would be center of attention.

Now with the light positioned as you wish, when you select and move the encap'd obj, you should have what you want.

You would have to enter the encapsulated object and select the camera object within, when trying to set the current window to view from the camera proper.

Mykyl,

Also, after a bit of testing - try this: delete all lights in your scene, (you can do this WS side by selecting them one by one with the arrow keys on your keyboard, and don't forget to save your lighting config so you can put them back later) you should wind up with a kind of red and green lighting (where does that come from, by the way) Now put just one ambient light in - and, presto, no shadows, and a kind of 'spotlight' effect on the side of the model you're facing ( at least that's what I got)

Hope it works for you too,

rf

edit: you have to change the color of the ambient lt too, I picked a light grey in the test

Thanks Norm and rrf. rrf I have noticed that as well and this is good for initial stages. However if I am near the final stages of the scene may have any number of lights ready setup and it was at this time I would rather not be deleting lights. Good idea though.

Cheers

Mykyl,

I just ran across this and thought you may be interested - CKGameFactory has a TSX called 'Modelight' (I think it's a free one) that may do what you want (with a little tweaking) As far as I can tell, it attaches the light to the model at whatever face your viewing - or something like that. I just did a short test, and it works somewhat, maybe worth a look-see.
