we need an option to delete vertices that belong to edges when the edge gets deleted..it's nice to leave vertices as an option but it should not be the only way :)

I believe it should be the other way around. You have first and foremost a vertex. You can not have edges until you have at least two vertices, so edges belong to verts.

You may find that using "context" as selection, will for instance select verts, edges and any faces you encompass with the rectangle selection tool. To restrict the selection to edges and expect vertices to be removed is not really using the tools provided. That context tool is probably best bet.

Norm it would be nice if it worked like ts66 if you choose to, because now it works in a way where you can't create some things as you once could..even if you create it on model side if you go to workspace and back to model you end up wirh a vertice in the middle of the edge, which is then actually two edges not one..
there is NO workspace equivalent to deleting edges like we had in ts66 or model..deleting a vertice on its own deletes the edges that join it
first pic is model side , after deleting two edges

second one is workspace, first deleting two edges, before and after deleting a vertice

I don`t believe, but i know it should be the 6.6 way. Delete an edge that crosses another edge, and the vertice will also be deleted. This was and is a useful and working way. Proofed in years.

The current Workspace way is not an useful and working way. This was discussed in the delete edgeloop thread before too. Makes no sense to delete an edgeloop when you need to remove all the vertices by hand then.

I agree, besides, if you select 2 verts to delete an edge and delete them they will mess up the surrounding geo. that they also help to define...Sorry Norm, but your method sounds more like selling an idea than any sort of real fix.

I think there may be times when it's useful to only delete the edge and leave the verts, especially if I'm changing edge flow but want to maintain the current verts. For example TS does a not so pretty job triangulating the caps on the default cylinder. It's fairly quick to highlight the edges and delete them, then use the add edges tool to add in the edges I want.

A more interesting question is what about the case where there is an isolated vert left along an edge. Should deleting that delete both edges or "heal" the edges in to one edge? Currently the only way to fix that kind of geometry would be to weld the stray vert to an existing vert or to delete both edges and make a new edge. Neither of which is a good workflow.

Now in the case of 3 or more edges coming into a point, it makes sense to delete the edges when the vertex is deleted.

So my question would be should the delete vertex tool delete both edges and verts when 3 or more edges meet at a vert, but heal the edges when there are only 2?

This would address the loop deletion as well I believe, since that would only be useful if it left the 2 crossing edges, but merged instead of leaving the verts behind.

The only problem with this is that you will have one approach for one situation and an completely different result in another. So maybe an option panel for delete options is the best way?

Also it would be nice to have bisect (with option for 1,2,3,n verts) and connect tools that could automatically add edges between created/selected verts. Wings has both these tools and they work very nicely together because the bisect tool leaves the newly created verts selected and then when you hit the connect tool it auto connect the verts to form new edges.
