really try to reach out there and grab new users ....

maybe setup a poll asking members how they were introduced to caligari products and try to recreate those types of marketing maybe in a ... more .. pro-active or ... larger scale way ...

i know for myself i was introduced y the great offer of 3.2 for free .. which i found at the IOMEGA free software site .. which i was linked to after buying a zip drive at a thrift store LOL ...

but the free product is a great idea .. and maybe you guys might want to think about giving away 4.0 now for free ...

I definitely think Caligari needs outreach and a growth in new users. The current attempt is the new External Gallery contest.

In many ways attracting new users comes down to seeing existing users produce stunning professional quality content, and there's not much Caligari can do about that unless the Caligari community steps up and produces.

Some of the best results I've seen in this forum comes from pairing TrueSpace with ZBrush, so hopefully we're going to see more of that. ;) Also realtime animation/rendering might be another way to wow potential new users. Of course reguardless of all that, the best reason to buy TrueSpace is the great welcome and support of these community forums. :D

Hi all,

tS3.2 is still free, and still out there :) Tell your friends!

It is not possible to release tS4 (and above) for free due to third party licensing issues, so that is not something to be waiting on. We do indeed ask people how they heard about tS, what got them started, why they chose tS, etc.

In the end, people need to see and hear about tS in more places - we have given Caligari users a great place to be (we hope!) here on our forums and galleries, and as a result much great tS stuff shows up here, but not in other places. So people who already know about tS see it, but those who haven't heard of tS don't see it.

This is the reasoning behind the external gallery contest - there are more places out there than we as a company can possibly reach, but our community can indeed do it! And we want to reward those in the community who do, so we created the External Gallery contest :)

Anyway, we agree, we need to let more people hear the news about tS, and it will take Caligari and community working together! We're rolling up our sleeves here :)

Thanks!

Tom

Here is what sold me on trueSpace. I was looking to move up from entry level programs that I had, mainly Poser 4 then. I was looking for a mid-level program to buy as programs like Lightwave was out of my range. I was looking then at trueSpace, Carrara and Cinema 4D and trying to decide which one was better. What really pulled me to trueSpace was Caligari's website and how much was on it. All the plugins, forums and monthly contests, etc. The other sites seemed to either hold a lot back or maybe just did not have much to them. What really sold me on tS was a video in the monthly contest of 2 guys that took a video they taped from a moving car and merged in themselves and an animation from tS. I thought any program that could do all that was just what I needed.

About the same time I decided on trueSpace, version 4 was out then, I found a guy on Renderosity that was selling his copy of tS4 and the paks he had purchased with it because he was moving up to Lightwave. I contacted Caligari about it and they were more than happy to transfer the license to me. So I knew then that Caligari had great support. I bought his copy then and been a customer ever since then. I upgraded f from 4 to 5, then 6, then 6.6 and now 7.51. Though that is usually when they have a sale going so I can afford it. But I would say that paid off for them to let me take over the license.

similar story with me.

I was using several free/ cut down pieces of software i got free off magazines when i started using truespace 3se, which had a cheap upgrade offer. I contacted caligari and the offer was still valid and i upgraded to 4.3. Kept updating with each release to 6.6 then 7.5.

It's a pity no new programs (4 plus) can be given out this way as that could really bring more people in. But then there is the trial version of 7.5. Has that been given out to any mags for a cover disc yet? i know most people seem to have the internet now but it could help.
