This is a new character I'm working on. He's about 3500 verts. I'm not using references (I'd just started sort of doodling) so he's sort of approximate. :D

Very nice work Heidi, especially if your not using a reference. Dare I hope that we wiill be able to see him swatting a few bi-planes?

The detail in the face and head looks good! I'd be interested in seeing a close view :)

Great work!

Thanks guys :)

Here's a close up of his head. He's not subdivided at this point. He smoothes out a lot with a layer of subdivision. I want to try some facial morphs on him before dividing though.

Very nice clean mesh Heidi. Are you patch modeling or is this straight box modeling? I ask only because I am dying to give patch modeling in TS a try...

No reference though?... hmmm... very nicely done.

Looking great Heidi :)
King Kong or Big Foot?
Shouldn't his Big Toe be Bigger?

Good call TB... I just found a picture of a gorilla's foot. All of his toes need to be a bit longer and the big toe is more like a thumb.

The model is looking excellent Heidi, reminds me of the Ape-men monsters from the Conan books

Thanks Jayr :)

TrueBlue, I fixed his feet, broadened his jaw a bit and did some other more minor tweaks. Here's what I have now. The next stage is to try to put some textures on him. :)

Very cool Heidi - although he looks a little unnatural in that pose as I'm so accustomed to seeing apes in a more hunched posture. I'm interested to see where you are going with this this.

Thanks Wizard and Transient :)

Wizard, I know... not a natural pose at all for a gorilla...I want to add a skeleton and some facial morphs to him. I plan to finish him in a more natural pose. The choice was sort of to either build him as a biped or as a quadraped. I went with the biped. :)

Its difficult to find example photos of a gorilla on the web, but theres a lot of king kong photos. This might be helpfull for you. http://images.google.com/images?gbv=2&hl=en&q=king+kong

Also, any time you need a photo, try google. It has an image tab and you can search for photos there.

Thanks Notejam. That's a really good link on King Kong images. You're right about gorilla images. I'd done the Google image search on 'gorilla' and on 'silverback' but hadn't done the King Kong search yet. :)

Thanks Jim. I'm working on textures for him. I hadn't thought about using the fur feature. The last time I tried that on something my computer choked. I have a newer graphics card now, so I may give it try. :)
