I was having a think about trueplay, and I was wondering if it would be possible to have a real-time link between my wacom and trueplay.

I know 3d is the focus, but the ability to sketch out my ideas in real-time in 2d would be ideal for me in many ways. Although it's been a while since I worked in an office, I'm led to believe that whiteboards and ohp's are still popular in meetings.

Purely from my own perspective, having the ability to write/ sketch my ideas would be a massive benefit when dealing with clients, especially overseas.

E-mail and msn is okay, but it's a drag to have to send multiple e-mails and messages to clear up a point that would take two seconds in real-time with a pen. The ability to have interactive whiteboards would be even better. Combined with a headset and a virtual meeting place, it would be as close to a face-to-face conversation that I can imagine.

Online education is also becoming a lot more popular, so I suppose this could have potential in this arena as well.

Anyway, I'm sure someone has already thought of this at Caligari, I was just wondering if there was anything planned to support it in the future.

I was doing a test last week and discovered that the uv editor can be used as a kind of whiteboard. You just create a plane or flat cube, stick a texture on it and then use the uv editor paint brush tool to write on it. The board would have to be square so the writing isn't distorted. The biggest downside is that you can't erase what you write. Actually I guess you just paint white to erase on a white board. Anyway, I've been thinking of doing some script to make this technique easier.

That's really clever, you garage guys never cease to amaze. :D

To be honest I'd given up on this, but if you can make it work I would be really happy.

Well, somebody else (http://www.alivex3d.org/classmate.htm) thought of this, too.

This is an endeavour of a local university (University of Southern Queensland). They've got a program there specialising in online 3d learning.

Maybe they would be interested in trueplay, and Caligari's real-time work at MS? Just a thought...........
