I definitely support the need for content conversion.

I want to lobby for added and vastly improved import functions for existing--especially _purchased_--content. Whether for illustration or animation purposes, this would:

+ Potentially save an enormous amount of time in production.

+ Reduce the impact of the learning curve, by allowing new users to achieve satisfying, complete results before learning the _entire_ program.

+ Increase the trueSpace user base, by providing newbies (like me) a more comfortable transition path from posing software (Poser, DAZ Studio) to full-fledged modeling software.

+ Extend the value of past original works, created by more advanced users in other software.

Such functions should include the ability to import morph targets, as well as applied morphs.

It would be nice if I could also import parented groups (such as clothing or props), along with image textures and translated/converted procedural textures/shaders.

To achieve this functionality, it might be necessary to create an enhanced export plugin for the originating software. This could be free, here, or readily sold, if reasonably priced, either here or on a site like DAZ3D or Renderosity. Poser and DAZ|Studio are the two most popular apps I'm aware of.

In addition to import functions, straightforward, uncomplicated, _reliable_ export functions from trueSpace to popular, marketable model formats is another potentially powerful means of attracting users, especially those who already sell some types of items on DAZ3D.com, Renderosity.com, etc. Providing a free and simplified means of translating still-developing 3D skills into even a trickle of additional cash flow could hardly fail to attract attention.

I acknowledge that I am not a programmer.

I acknowledge that I don't begin to understand the complexities of what I am requesting.

I maintain that I shouldn't have to: Software exists to take all that off my plate. It's the original reason for developing operating systems and software.

IMNSHO, the essential function of a programmer or programming team is to work very hard, up front, so that many others have an easier (hopefully, much easier) time, downstream. Isn't that what all software is for?

So why not get it right, from the beginning? Interoperability deepens and widens everyone's pool; but those who succeed in getting there first, and implementing adequately, increase their requisite variety (and therefore their dominance of the shared market system--the "pool") by orders of magnitude.
