2d for 3d, that is the question? Ok, bad pun. These are some rough cartoons I made. I used a random method to create them. To do this, scribble small loops (black paint) and keep repeating them in different sizes and shapes vertically from top to bottom of the painting area.
Then make a mirrior image of the scribbling, and move it along side the first scribbled area, and paste it.
Then fill a few of the center areas with red paint, first loops from center, with blue paint, and the rest with flesh colored paint. fill the rest of the area with black paint.
These are public domain and it is hoped that you will add your own public domain cartoons in this topic, and or take anything here and re-work it into something, either 2d or 3d.
I will make a video later and post it so you can see exactly how I create these cartoons at random.
Let's make collabrative art work, either 2d or 3d, and allow anyone to use it for any purpose. I think you will find that a fun activity, and its a good way to learn from others that take your art, and re-work it into something different. I use the 2d paint program in windows for this, and hope to make some of my cartoon characters into 3d cartoon characters and then animate them.
Cartoon Factory is a fantasy world, where you can get employed at simple art tasks creating public domain art. Anyone can take any of the art and re-work it into new art.
Cartoon Factory 2d department needs workers to submit, and or re-work submitted art. To be a member of our Cartoon Factory Fantasy world, just post something, or re-work it into something new. Both 2d, and 3d posts are welcome.
Pay: Smiles, and Have lots of Fun. Learn new ideas. Maybe even get to see your art animated. Maybe even get a character you design to download.
Plus the chance of earning the prestigious certificate of merit awarded by the Advanced Society of Scribblers!
Attention future factory workers! Pc users, Hold down shift key, and print screen key when you see a picture posted, then go to your paint program and paste it there, will allow you to easiily make copys of posted art to re-work. Maybe a mac user can explain how to do the same for us?
Or post as an attached file to your post, which will allow users to download the art, and then re-work it.
All Factory workers recieve membership in the prestigious SOCIETY OF ADVANCED SCRIBBLERS.
We currently are seeking artists to design an award certificate. This certificate should say something like __________ has been awarded this certificate of merit for their fine art work by the Society of Advanced Scribblers. Word it however you think will make the best certificate of merit.
The size of the certificate should be like a banner that they can proudly display on their web pages.
Hey, its time to get to work

Ok, so you want to work as a scribbler? Here is what to do.
Download attached files. Scribbling Lesson A, is a tutorial on how to create cartoon faces by just scribbling, and then painting in the areas made.
Joules1 is a animaton tutorial that uses Joules as the character, and uses the program Crazy talk to do the animation, and create the cartoon character voice. This program can also be used with your animations you make in truespace7.6. To do that, you will need your character to turn either directly at the camera, or within about 15 degrees of looking at the camera.
Then use the method in the tutorial to create your audio and animated video of what the character is to say. Then use a vidoe editor, and splice the video from crazy talk onto the video you made with truespace7.6.
To make video from truespace directly from your animation clips, you can use camtasia.
Use of crazy talk to add voice to parts of scenes, will even work with rendered animations. Just load a frame into crazy talk, and turn it into a video, use an editor and splice that video onto your video you made from rendered animation clips.
Please submit any cartoons you make to this topic, also consider making use of others cartoons and re-working them.
I will be animating some of the cartoons you submit to this topic, and I hope others will also do this. |

These remind me of some political cartoons I saw once, don't remember the artist's name.
The figure's line were wavy and they had distorted features.
It was good for off the wall humor. :D |

Yeah, sure, fantasys are always kind of well they are fantasys, not hard cold adult realitys.
Anyway, my topic is an attempt to create an area where we share artwork.
The idea is to make tutorials for simple tasks, and users can work at that simple task, and then move on, and organize this so users may share what they make with others, and they can re-work it. If you want to get a better idea of where I am attempting, with this then go to the 3d world at http://www.cybertown.com/main_ieframes.html Or visit some of the other 3d chat worlds where artists help each other out by making avatars, objects to decorate the buildings others made, cartoon creatures etc.
In other words, instead of just one person working on their own project, we start learning to share, and work on things as volunteer groups, with the materials to share just sitting there, and anyone can come along, maybe do a repaint, or re-design and upload it, or make something to go with it.
But I do not like the cybertown format of selling to each other, and hope people can see there is benifits for everyone if they just shared and helped out instead.
What links exits, are download links, found in some of the messages posted in this topic. The messages posted explain the concepts. |

In this tutorial, you learn how to make animated textures, and then turn those textures into animated kalidoscopes. It uses the model side.
It demonstrates how to glue 4 cubes together so if you texture them, they form a kalidoscope of the texture.
Use them for building futuristic type citys, glowing treasures to find in games, crystal building supplys for some space scene, or just have fun making dancing kalidoscopes with music. Try the use of scale, to make the cubes into boards, or other shapes. Also play around with selecting faces and use of extrude tool, etc.
If you make something interesting, upload it here for others to play around with and modify. Remember, this is a public domain topic. What you upload here anyone may use for any purpose.
Click below on kalidoscope.zip to download the attached tutorial video.

Here is a scene and a object file. Paint these objects with any texture, and they will automatically become kalidoscope type designs.
In the scene, I show you how you can use them to make rugs.
Download these Kalidoscope tools and then load them into truespace 7.6, but use the model side, and the 6.0 tab to load them.
Have fun.

We are not limited to just kalidoscope type tiles. We can also make 3d kalidoscope objects. Here are some examples.
Now the advantage of making Kalidoscope objects and lath turnings, is that your textures always end up seamless, and automatically adjust to any kalido Object you paint with that texture. But you often get surprises, so you just have to try different textures and see what happens. Its a real good way to use up those digital photos that did not turn out so well. They often can make pretty designs if painted onto a kalido Object. You make kalido lath object, by setting the angle to your choice of 45 or 90 degrees on the lath tool. To do that, right click on the lath icon, and type in the number next to angle. If you pick 90, then you will make 4 reflection type kalidoscope objects. If you pick 45, then you will make 8 reflection kalidoscope type objects.
You make them just like you would any lath object. Just spin them , and then click on the last side, to highlight that face, and then use the mirror tool. Then slide it away and delete the original. Then highlight the last side made, and click on the mirror tool. Repeat this until you end up with a 360 degree spun object. Paint with any texture, and it automaitcally turns into a kalidoscope texture decorated object. These are great for making christmas ornaments, jewels, beads and bangles, teleport pads for games, flower blossems, trees, gem stones, and treasures, etc.

Here are some more Kalido Objects. Load them with truespace 7.6, but use the 6 version load tab, and load as Objects. Left click on the file icons below to download the files. Then use a zip program, such as winzip to unpack the files. Then load the files. |

Here is a chart for making kalido lath objects.
Sides = degrees of rotation
2=180
3=120
4=90
5=72
6=60
8=45
9=40
10=36
12=30
15=24
18=20
20=18
24=15
30=12
36=10
40=9
45=8
60=6
72=5
Each different amount of rotation will have its own effect on the patteren generated from your texture when you texture the kalido object with your digital photo, or libarary textures.
Those that want to make flower blossoms, should really consider trying all possible degrees of spin of the lath object, as there are very nice subtle changes from one to the next in the designs that will be displayed, and shape of the flower.
Those wanting to make objects, consider combinations that have a small number on the left, for example numbers 2 - 9 Anything past 9 starts to look more and more like a daisy, but perhaps you will want that effect. |

Lamp people attempt to revive a solar buggy, by applying light.
Just a Sci Fi scene to demo what you can do with these Kalido objects, and how even junky digital photos become usefull. (the base that everything rests on is textured with a digital photo I took of some plants in our yard that had a lot of brush mixed in. It made a neat diamond like shape in the texture, and gives an other world look to the landscape. Every last thing in the scene makes use of kalido objects, or partial kalido objects.
Now its your turn. Make up a kalido scene with objects you found here and or add any new objects to it, and post it here for others to play around with. (save it in model side, and use the 6.6 tab. First get everything positioned in your model side as you want them, and then do the save. You will need to compress the file with a zip program like winzip. Find winzip at www.download.com

Meet your neighbors after dark. Miss Sippi
Occupation: Slicer and dicer A person that slices and dices characters and puts them together to make a new character. This is a fairly easy method of making cartoons by recycling body parts that you slice off of other characters. Collect them in your Body parts section of your library. Gasp, you don't have a body parts section? A tutorial will be provided that will teach you how to make a new body parts folder for your library, to keep all your stray parts in. Hey buddy, can you spare an arm or leg, or paw or claw for our body parts recycling center? (please upload arms, legs, paws and claws that you sliced off of your characters for others to have fun with)
Also, if you have a character posted, you can just give me permission to slice your character into parts. I will then post the parts in your topic, and put a link here to where persons can find them. Remember, if you post anything here, its public domain. I am asking that you make just your legs, arms, or paws or claws that are sliced off, public domain, so others can have fun with them making new cartoons from the recycled parts. Now off with your head!

Its got a crazy name, Dogwaffle, and its much much more fantastic for a free program than that name, sigh, what a name, lol.
Get it here http://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/free/
Also try out some of the free textures by clicking the link below.
24 free public domain Textures:
Its just scribbling, but dogwaffle can make scribbling look like oil paintings.

Since its not public domain, I can not post it here, because doing so would make it appear I am labeling it public domain.

Notejam...thank you for sharing all this with us. If I take the time and really look at these they are quite beautiful. Thanks again!!!
Thanks Tahnoak, I was kind of wondering if anyone was even looking at my topic anymore, since my attempts to get users to participate so far have not worked. Maybe someday, grin. but I do see some are at least downloading the files. I hope they are at least trying to make something to upload.
I know uploading files to a topic is confusing for persons the first time around.
And this reminder is for everyone that this is a topic that you may download an item, modify it, and upload it and share what you did. Or you can even upload your own cartoons and objects for others to work on.
Its an attempt to start a community work in progress topic, where people can share their art, and then get to see how others might make use of it, or modify it, etc.
This is not MY topic, instead its OUR topic, and anyone is welcome to post any art here, I just ask that you include an upload of the object or scene files too. |

I certainly will. Lately my 5 year old has been sitting with me while I do stuff. I know she would love to come up with her own colorful creations such as you have done. Who knows why others do what they do. That is what makes everyone unique and wonderful. How boring it would be if everybody did what we wanted them to :D
Maybe by next christmas I will have a christmas scene ready to do and I will definitely have some of the old time christmas ornaments such as you provided.
I would not worry about it at all. All you or I or anyone can do is share what we do. Some will like it and provide encouragement and some may admire it from afar without commenting. Then again, some may not like it at all. As long as you keep doing what you're doing and you enjoy it, that is all that matters.
Off my soap box and putting away my book of overused cliche`s :)
Happy Holidays |
