I had my first major crash and reload of tS 7.5. Now my tS 7.5 is broken in! I was going through the workspace manual on modeling. Now the details:

I was creating a plane in the workspace view. I made a plain with segment width and height of "16". I got this error from my ATI graphics controller (BTW its a RADEON X600):

" VPU recovery reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to commands".

-the workspace view got alittle dimmer. I deleted the plane and tried to put another 16x16 plane in and got another reset error.

-then tS froze.

I closed tS and tried to reopen and got the following error screen:

5860

I then tried to start tS 7.11 and got the same error screen! By now I am thinking that tS changed (ruined) my graphics card settings which I have never had to play with and did not want to start under this circumstance as I have other programs that rely on 3D acceleration!

I followed the instructions and tried to find D3DRenderer.log. I did find it however it has not been updated since 1/07/2006! But I did find "PlayerD3D.log" which I think is what the message is referring since that file had info about the D3D acceleration failure and I did find the Rosetta.log which also referenced the error.

I was ready to call Norm but thought first let me try reloading. I uninstalled tS 7.5 and then reinstalled it and it worked with no more D3D acceleration error  . I am able to reproduce the problem with the 16x16 plane on the same computer. NOTE for my desktop it is only 16x16 plane that causes the issue. Higher or lower setting do not cause this problem..

I tried to reproduce this issue on another system but I was not able too. So I cannot make 16x16 planes on my desktop without this issue :( I notice that as long as I dont keep trying to make 16x16 planes I dont have to reload as the more times I try to make that specific size plane the more graphic card errors I get. First I get the VSU recovery error, then next time it errors telling me that the display colors have been reduced then tS freezes which is only fixed via reinstall (tried to delete the default.ctx but that did not help). So I will not be forcing the issue.

BTW I do have both the original error log files if Caligari helpdesk needs to see them.

it looks like VPU recovery turned off HAL for your graphics card; restart should help here. but... this looks like driver related issue - best time to check for driver updates..

Hey Tom I updated the driver from version 6.x to 8.x per your recommendation and the behavior is the same. To provide more specific behavior info I cannot make the 16x16 plane while in the mode when you first click the plane then go to the workspace and click/drag to resize it as it will crash. BUT if I just click and no drag in the workspace the plane is created then I can resize with the widget :) . So thats the current story.

Prodigy- them sound like speed challenge words to me! ;)

I am using an x800 and no problem here. Using 8.351 drivers.
Is there any kind of accelleration(overclocking) going on?

I am using a X600 with the latest drivers and no overclocking that I am aware of. I guess it is a problem I will have to workaround and live with for now. But I am still very much enjoying tS 7.5.

Are you using the ATI control panel as well as the drivers?
Just curious if there was some setting in there that is perhaps a clue.
Any other primitives where 16x16 resolution might do this or for sure is it just plane prims doing this?
