I should probably just install XP on my new laptop, but I thought I'd post here first, just in case.

Sorry, already tried that thread (and others). Thanks, though.

I tried downloading an older version of "msvcrt.dll", but am unable to copy over the existing file. I've turned on permissions to edit it, and even used the command prompt to try replacing the old-fashioned way, but it always says the file is in use by another program (which makes sense, as it's a Windows system file...).

Have you tried the Hotfixes?
The following hotfixes are recommended for GeForce 6, 7, and 8 series customers running 3D applications on Microsoft Windows Vista:

Look up Ownership in the Vista help file. I did not have any problems installing tS7.5.1 in the standard way. But I have recently learned how the take Ownership of my C:/ drive and all Sub Folders and files within. I also disabled the UAC nag control too. Hated that!

What is it about re-installing software that magically fixes things? Why can't it just work the first time? Actually, I tried installing XP, but it couldn't find my hard drive, so when I restarted, the ASUS recovery utility took over and re-installed Vista. Anyway, tS7.51 is now working.

trueBlue, you write:

"Look up Ownership in the Vista help file. I did not have any problems installing tS7.5.1 in the standard way. But I have recently learned how the take Ownership of my C:/ drive and all Sub Folders and files within. I also disabled the UAC nag control too. Hated that!"

Can you tell me what Vista help file I look up Ownership in and how to disable the UAC. Both these sound like the mind-enfeebling junk that is fraying my nerves too.

Thanks for any clues.

Cthulhu,

I've been using Vista since before 7.5 came out and the only problem I ever had was trying to transfer a few scenes from 6.6 into 7.5 because of the permissions. 7.51 has never really caused me any issues except for drivers but that's vista...
