Posig with IK handlers is very hard. They jump. And the bones with them. |

The reason for this jumpiness is hidden behind the anatomy I think which is not replicated in it's natural behavior in 3D programms.
Therefore it is necessary that we still have to use things like
- lock
-weight paint
whenever you move your skeleton the surrounding skin builds up some kind of tension. As soon as you
- release now a lock
- move the skeleton
- the program runs through all params, including tensions
- corrects everything like skin, bones, etc
therefore you have this jumping I think. In the attached video I just added an additonal lock to catch and stop the tensions which point into the shoulder whenever moving the arm. You can see the "jumpiness" is much smaller and smoother when I use the shoulder lock.
What I didn*' use here is weight paint that should make it almost perfect.
In your video it looks to me that you don't have any lock at the right shoulder bone, if so, perhaps try if it works better if you set one up there.
I know this is not the perfect solution but perhaps helps you can finalize your animation. |

Thanks Emma, but i think you have misunderstand me. I talk about touching IK handlers and the involved bones jumps into another pose. You haven't applied IK handlers at your rig in your movie as far as i can see.
IK handlers are the only stuff that i am allowed to touch while animation because else the "locks doesn't really lock" bug traps me. Well, it shakes anyway, even with just touching the IK handlers, but with touching the bones and joints directly it is even worse:

Anyways. I did as you suggested, and have applied a locked lock at every branch of my breast bone. And i just touch the IK handler. Doesn't change anything. Just clicking at the IK handler causes to jump the ellbow to the front. Now go posing  |

Curious Tiles? Are you using Locks with IK Handles? If so you can select your IK Handle and then select the Locks you want to use with that IK Handle. There is a video explaining this in the tS7.5 Manual called IK Locks 01.wmv |

How comes that everybody starts to talk about Locks when i talk about Handlers :p
I miss the videos. I must have lost them. Hmm, where is the download place gone? The Caligari page is so unbelievable cluttered. I cannot find how to associate an IK handler to an IK lock in the manual. But i think what you mean is to make the IK handler not to use Global Locks. Right?
Anyways. All IK handlers are set to use global locks. This bug has to do with an IK handler overriding another IK handler :) |

Okay, have redownloaded the videos, had a look and know now what you mean. It has indeed to do with local versus global as i have thought. Hmm, this feature could come in handy once the bugs are fixed. But this changes nothing for this bug here. The jump is the same, no matter if my IK handlers uses the Lock local or global. |
